Trying out Pizza Express Tamworth
I have to admit I don’t think I have ever tried Pizza Express before; it is one of those restaurants I have heard so many things about and yet never ventured through the door. So when I was asked if I would like to try out some of their new menu, I knew I had to say yes.
For anyone who knows Tamworth, their Pizza Express is situated on the Ventura Court, which is adjacent to Ventura Retail Park. Meaning it is the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat in between shops. It also happens to be just off the A5 and only 4.3 miles from the Tamworth junction of M42, making for the perfect pit stop while travelling as well.
The parking for Pizza Express is right outside the restaurant and is free of charge (there are other restaurants in the town where parking is not free so well worth noting), there is also a couple of disabled bays right in front of the restaurant, in very close proximity to the front door.
Once inside the restaurant we were quickly greeted and shown to a comfortable booth and presented with menus, of course I grabbed a cup of tea and Ash had a coke, while we perused the menu.
Pizza Express has at the start of the year, added a few limited edition specials to the menu. All of these items have previously been on the menu and are back by popular demand, while we didn’t choose the pizzas and cocktails from these; I did manage the starter and dessert.
First up I started my three course meal with Pennette Formaggi, this is part of the special “comeback” menu and can be bought as a starter or main course. This particular macaroni and cheese sees a three cheese sauce mixed with mozzarella and Gran Milano cheese. It is then made using pennette pasta, a dash of garlic oil and pepper and all topped off with a fresh basil leaf and a last sprinkling of Gran Milano cheese. Meanwhile Ash started his meal with a menu staple as either a start or side; Garlic Bread with Mozzarella.
Both of us really enjoyed our starters. I have to admit however I did find the Pennette Formaggi cold in the middle and hot on the outside. I probably should have questioned this at the time, but I didn’t think, leaving me still wondering if it was meant to be that way or not.
As big fans of garlic bread with cheese, we both have quite particular tastes regarding what makes for a good one. However, we both agreed this one was one of the best we had tried.
Moving onto mains Ash went with perhaps one of the most popular pizzas around, American, this is a pepperoni, mozzarella and tomato pizza and perhaps one you can never go wrong with.
I decided to put myself a little out of comfort zone and went for the Calzone Calssico, which is a folded pizza that is filled with Coppa, Finocchiona, Milano salami and pepperoni, light mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, fresh parsley, fresh basil, garlic oil, baby spinach, tomato and Gran Milano cheese. I have to admit I couldn’t manage the whole thing, but wow it was absolutely delicious and is definitely something I would eat again.
At this point I think both of us were feeling pretty full, but can you ever say no to a delicious pudding? I again went back to the specials menu and decided to try Chocolate Fondant , which is a chocolate cake, with a melted centre, served with vanilla ice cream and garnished with mint and icing sugar. Which I have to say is absolutely delicious.
Ash went for Dolcetti Profiteroles, which is Salted Caramel Profiterole, served with your choice of hot drink, he kindly went for tea with his, which was quickly stolen by me. I think the only thing he wasn’t too keen on about this dessert, was the size, Ash absolutely loves profiteroles, so could have easily had more on his plate.
Overall, we were both really impressed with Pizza Express, we both left with the feeling we would definitely return and perhaps take friends or family with us next time as a treat.
If you love pizza or pasta and fancy a nice meal out, then I would definitely suggest heading to your local Pizza Express (or even ordering a takeaway if you live near enough).

This looks like a fab Pizza Express! My two ALWAYS want to eat at the Nottingham one when we’re there. Luckily kids meals are dirt cheap for 3 courses and a bambinoccino so I can’t complain.
I’ve never had any of the things you tried so I’ll definitely be looking out for them next time we eat there 🙂

I could count the amount of times I have been to Pizza Express on one hand but I have enjoyed it each time I went. Mainly I am not the biggest pizza fan. Have you ever tried Zizzi’s? x

The Dolcetti Profiteroles look fantastic I didn’t know those were on the menu I must visit and try them soon.

We love pizza express, we do only go when we’ve got spare clubcard vouchers though. The kids meals are probably the best ones out of all the chain restaurants, my kids especially love the bambacino at the end of the meal

I love Pizza Express. You don’t really sound like a picky eater- but they are really good at changing the toppings on your pizza or salad if you want them to.

I haven’t been to a Pizza Express either. The food looks incredible, I could easily devour the Calzone right now and the dessert looks scrummy. I need to make an effort and go to ours in the city x

They did get back to me and say it should have been warm all the way though, it was so strange as some bits were really hot, so who knows what happened :/
