How to Make Your Home Feel Cosy for Autumn
There’s something about autumn that makes me want to get the blankets back out.
I really miss them during summer, but there comes a point when it’s far too warm to even think about snuggling under one.
Making your home feel cosy for autumn doesn’t mean completely redecorating or filling every surface with pumpkins. Sometimes it’s just about bringing back the things you’ve missed during the warmer months.
Bring Back the Blankets and Cushions

For me, blankets are probably the biggest one.
As soon as it gets cooler, I love having a blanket ready on the sofa to snuggle under. I’m also a big fan of cushions, although mine aren’t purely there to look cosy. I need one to help support my hypermobile, wobbly neck.
When it starts getting properly chilly, I’ll normally reach for a blanket and hot water bottle before thinking about putting the heating on.
Make More of Candles and Cosy Lighting

I use candles all year round, but there’s something about the darker evenings that makes them even nicer.
I actually got a bit stuck buying the same sorts of candle scents, so I started asking small sellers what their favourite was and choosing that instead. As long as it isn’t food scented, because those really aren’t for me.
I used to put fairy lights up when the evenings got darker and I’d love to start doing that again. I haven’t had the energy lately, but even just using lamps instead of the main light can make an evening feel different.
Bring Back the Warmer Things

I definitely start wanting less salad and more warm food once the weather changes. Tea also becomes much easier to drink when you’re not already roasting.
I love having flowers around the house too, although that’s definitely not just an autumn thing for me. I like them all year round.
Cosy Doesn’t Have to Mean Complicated
There are so many beautiful pictures online of homes completely transformed for autumn, but that’s not really necessary.
I’ve seen some lovely-looking hot chocolate stations, for instance, but they’re far too fussy for me and I’d have to find somewhere to put everything. A mug of tea will do me just fine.
For me, a cosy autumn evening is pretty simple. Give me a blanket ready to snuggle under, a pillow for my wobbly neck, a candle burning and something to watch on TV and I’m quite happy.
I don’t think you need to follow a particular autumn aesthetic or buy loads of new things to make your home feel cosy.
Sometimes it’s just nice to notice that the evenings are getting darker, bring the blankets back out and settle in for the night.
