Ideas For Buying Unique Jewellery
It’s not much of a secret around here that I love jewellery. There is so much you use the perfect pieces for. From complementing your outfit, to actually bringing the WOW factor.
One thing I try and do these days is hunting out unique or antique jewellery – allowing myself to have something that really is just a bit different. However, how can you find yourself a piece of jewellery which is different? Without breaking the bank?
Actually, it can be quite simple and here are some of my top tips to help you buy some unique jewellery pieces this year. No matter if you are searching for the perfect gold diamond ring or beautiful silver chain with a stunning pendant attached.
Buy Antique
One thing I love is buying a piece of jewellery with history and it isn’t as hard to do as you think. Places like Carus Jewellery, these days specialise in selling vintage pieces.
From the ’70s to Georgian and more! There is a whole host of beautiful antique pieces you can choose from. What’s more, you can sometimes find a real bargain when it comes to the cost of preloved vs new.
I remember after my first-year self employed full time I treated myself to a beautiful opal ring. Which is something just a bit different to have and love.
You don’t have to spend a lot for instance 925 sterling silver chains don’t have to break the bank but can be something you really cherish in the long term.
Buy Handmade
There are some really talented people out there running small businesses, which are dedicated to making jewellery. So when you are after something different why not look into them?
While they may make certain designs more than once, they will often only be in small quantities. Or you could ask them to make you something unique for yourself.
Ash got me a ring a couple of Christmas ago, which was part of the creator’s full-time collection. However, you got to choose which stones went into it and in which order, making it a really unique piece.
Design Your Own
Leading on from buying handmade, you can, of course, look to design or even personalise your own jewellery. There are many companies that offer this sort of service. From small businesses to larger companies.
While many of the larger companies like to market these for wedding rings, there is no reason you couldn’t look to have something made for any occasion.
There is something wonderful about having something you have had a hand in designing. Something which comes from your heart and then is turned into something you can wear. Some companies offer software to help you design your perfect piece of jewellery, while others will create something from your ideas.
Something New From Something Old
One jewellery idea I have seen more of recently and really love is having something new made from something old. Some amazingly talented people are able to take jewellery which means something to you but perhaps isn’t your style.
To do this they melt down the gold, take the stones from it and remake it into something you will wear every day. I think is such a lovely way to keep jewellery from loved ones close, while making it something you really love and wear as well.

I like finding unique pieces of jewellrey on holiday by visiting little markets and bazaar’s. I have found some lovely pieces this way.

I really like finding unusual pieces, particularly old jewellery, often found unexpected in the back of a second hand shop. It is far nicer to get jewellery that is slightly different and more personal to you than buying the same as everyone else. Love your ideas of where to buy.

I don’t really wear a lot of jewellery, some special pieces my husband has bought me over the year, and some ummm can we say homemade bits that the kiddos have made me for Mothers Day! I love my jewellery to be unique, many years ago when I was choosing my engagement ring I found the style I liked, then asked the jeweller to change the stones to my favourite, I still get comments on it 20 years later.
I also like to buy second hand, there’s some lovely pieces out there, and it means you don’t walk past your high street jewellers and see your jewellery in there every day!

I have been the lucky recipient of my great grandmother and my grandmother’s jewelry. I wear it often but I am constantly checking for wear and tear. I would be devastated if I lost it.

These are some great idea – I really like buying handmade jewellery and I do have a few antique pieces in my collection.
I have to admit I would love to know the story behind some of my older pieces.
I love jewellery, and always wear several rings, earrings, a bangle and a necklace. I get given quite a bit of ethnic jewellery by my Indian in-laws, as one of their customs is to give small pieces of jewellery (usually earrings) when you attend a relative’s wedding. I like to buy vintage jewellery and I’ve bought a couple of really nice rings in pawn shops. I look for pieces made of 18ct gold, with nice stones. My best buy was a sapphire and diamond ring that I bought for £150, which I later had valued at over £1,000! It seems that both the owner of the ring and the pawnbroker had not realised the stones were real diamonds.
Oh wow that is amazing! What a buy, I should really try and get some of my pieces valued I think, it is something I have forgotten to do.
As I don’t wear a jewellery very often I always feel at a loss when I go to purchase something for a friend or loved one. This really helps to point me in the right direction for things I should be looking for.
