Where I Buy Clothes That Last

Clothes that last are becoming harder to find, especially as fast fashion has made it easy to buy cheap clothing quickly, but it often comes with a downside: fabrics that wear out fast, items that lose their shape after a few washes, and a wardrobe full of things that don’t really last.

Over time, I’ve started to focus less on buying lots of new clothes and more on finding pieces that I genuinely love and will wear for years. That usually means choosing comfortable fabrics, reliable brands, second-hand finds, and occasionally something handmade or a little bit special.

My wardrobe isn’t built around one single shop; instead, it’s a mixture of places I trust, pieces I’ve discovered second-hand, and the occasional item that simply makes me happy every time I wear it.

Here are the places I return to most often when I’m looking for clothes that last.

Snag – Comfortable Clothing That Actually Fits

Snag first became widely known for their tights, but over the years, they’ve expanded into a full range of clothing (and towels, too!).

What makes Snag stand out is its focus on inclusive sizing and clothing designed for real bodies, rather than trying to fit into restrictive shapes or awkward fits. Their pieces are built around comfort and practicality. I have a fluffy cardigan that I got for Christmas 2024 that apparently makes everyone want to touch it! 

Things I like about Snag clothing:

Molke – Supportive, Comfortable Underwear

Comfort often starts with the layers people don’t see.

Molke is a Scottish-based brand known for its colourful underwear and strong focus on ethical manufacturing. Their bras in particular have developed a loyal following thanks to their supportive design without relying on underwires, and for me, this is a real must with my chronic illnesses. I’ve found I can easily wear their original bras all day. I do, however, size up the band just to add that extra bit of comfort.

Good-quality underwear makes a surprising difference to everyday comfort, and well-made pieces tend to last far longer than cheaper alternatives.

The Oodie – Cosy Nightshirts for Lounging

When it comes to sleepwear and relaxing at home, comfort is the priority.

The oversized nightshirts from The Oodie have become some of my favourite things to wear around the house. They’re soft, roomy, and designed to be genuinely comfortable rather than just looking nice, and they have pockets!

Why they work well:

• Extremely soft materials
• Relaxed, oversized fit
• Durable fabrics that wash well (though I suggest not putting them in the dryer)
• Ideal for cosy evenings at home

They’re not designed to be stylish in the traditional sense, but they’re perfect for comfort. (Also apparently dayjamas are huge this summer, so perhaps I’m ahead of the curve).

Vinted – One of My Favourite Places to Shop

A surprising amount of my wardrobe actually comes from second-hand shopping.

Vinted has become one of the easiest ways to find clothing that’s still in excellent condition but available at a much lower price than buying new.

What makes it useful:

• Huge variety of brands
• Affordable prices
• Opportunity to find discontinued items
• A more sustainable way to shop
• I can pick up items from some of my favourite handmade brands, which have sadly now closed

You can often find pieces that have barely been worn, and sometimes even brand-new items that people simply didn’t end up keeping.

It’s also where I occasionally find handmade items or unique clothing that you wouldn’t see on the high street.

Handmade Clothing or Hand-Designed Art 

Some of the most interesting items in my wardrobe have come from independent makers and designers. 

There are both those who create items from scratch and those who print their art onto pre-made T-shirts, and my wardrobe includes a lot of both! 

Shopping this way also means there is less waste as items are often made to order, or in small batches, with more attention to detail than typical mass-produced fashion.

Handmade pieces often stand out because they offer:

• Unique designs
• More interesting fabrics
• Limited-run styles
• A chance to support small creators

These are often the pieces that feel a bit more personal, and they tend to last because they’re made with care rather than speed.

Disney Store – Especially Winnie the Pooh Pieces

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll probably know I have a soft spot for Winnie the Pooh.

Over the years, I’ve picked up a few pieces from the Disney Store featuring Pooh and friends, and they’ve become some of my most-worn casual items.

What I enjoy about them:

• Soft, comfortable fabrics
• Nostalgic designs
• Pieces that feel joyful and personal

Sometimes the clothes that last the longest are simply the ones you love wearing the most as long as you take care of them. 

Rebel Romance – A Small Brand I’m Excited About

I’ve recently started exploring smaller independent clothing brands (especially after the ones I had been buying from closed), and Rebel Romance is one I’ve been really pleased with so far.

My first purchase from them was their Purrfect Cats cardigan, which is a collaboration with Abi Perry, which immediately stood out for its design and quality. It’s the kind of piece that feels a little special rather than just another cardigan in the wardrobe.

Smaller brands like Rebel Romance often focus on:

• Unique designs
• Higher-quality materials
• More thoughtful production
• Limited collections rather than mass production

Supporting smaller fashion brands can also help keep clothing more creative and less disposable.

Why I Prefer a Mixed Wardrobe

Rather than relying on one single shop, I’ve found the best approach is to mix different sources.

My wardrobe now includes:

• New items from brands I trust
• Second-hand finds
• Handmade pieces
• Clothing that simply makes me happy to wear

This approach tends to create a wardrobe that feels much more personal, while also reducing the need to constantly replace worn-out items.

The Real Secret to Clothes That Last

Durability matters, but the real secret to clothes that last is simple: you actually enjoy wearing them.

If something is comfortable, fits well, and feels like you, it will naturally become something you wear again and again.

And those are the pieces that end up lasting the longest and not getting lost at the bottom of a drawer.
