How Wood Flooring Can Be Part of a Solution to Brighten a Room
This is a collaborative post.
Flooring is the most important component of modern interior design. You should approach its selection with great responsibility and attention.
Of all flooring types, wooden is one of the most popular today. Ash, birch, cherry, walnut, maple, and so on — every colour suits a special purpose.
For example, choosing a lighter colour is a great solution when your room lacks light. Maintaining a balance of light and shade in living areas is essential.
Brighten up your kitchen, bedroom, living room, children’s room, and other premises with the help of wood flooring.
What does the market have up its sleeve?
Being eco-friendly, stylish and practical all at once, woodwork flooring options offer a number of choices. The materials include hardwood, laminate, parquet, and vinyl, among others.
The latter is also known as luxury vinyl tiles – LVT (click here to learn more about LVT flooring). Now let’s review some of the materials.
Hardwood
Hardwood flooring comprises boards made from a single piece of wood, making them suitable for complex floor configurations. The parquet with fewer defects like knots and splinters is of higher quality and looks more refined.
However, floor coverage with natural flaws looks cosier and rustic.

Parquet
Parquet is cheaper than hardwood since only the top layer is made of precious wood, while the middle and bottom layers include softwoods. In this case, the appearance does not suffer, and the composition remains as natural.
Parquet is exceptionally durable and has good thermal insulation capabilities.
LVT
LVT flooring consists of two layers: a plywood base and a multilayer veneer of different species of wood. Its appearance and cost are similar to parquet or solid wood flooring, but engineered boards have greater strength and resistance to moisture due to their multi-layered structure.
Many people prefer solid wood for its beautiful texture, warmth retention, and hypoallergenic and ecological properties.
Such flooring will serve you for more than 40 years. It also has excellent sound and heat insulation characteristics.
Cork
Cork flooring is made from the bark of the cork tree. It has good sound and heat insulation characteristics while being non-slippery, hypoallergenic, pest-resistant, and easy to care for.
Due to the springiness of the material, cork flooring is ideal for people with back problems because it can reduce the load on the musculoskeletal system.
Design Tricks
Previously, we figured out that one of the easiest ways to visually expand a narrow room is by means of flooring. Apart from making the space visually larger, the flooring of light shades, such as white, combines well with other colours, and it will fit perfectly into the interior of any room.
A bold combination of white floor and red accents is also an interesting solution. Contrasting colours, for example, a brown floor with white walls and ceiling, will also visually make the room appear larger.
Warm dark tones of wooden flooring can be used for spacious living rooms and bedrooms.
Another trick is to lay wooden boards diagonally, in a herring-bone manner, or running parallel to the longest wall in the room. This method will also help to visually enlarge the space and hide irregular wall geometry.
The shape and size of wood boards also make a difference. Choose wider planks over strips.
Due to fewer seams on the floor, you will perceive the room as more spacious and full of air.
