How To Prepare An At-Home Spa Experience
AD
Pamper yourself with an at-home spa experience that will reinvigorate your mind, body and soul. You don’t need a big budget—just careful preparation and a day carved out for yourself. Discover how to prepare to get the most out of a DIY spa session and decide whether you want to invite friends or enjoy it alone.
Set the mood

Creating a spa atmosphere will ensure you feel peaceful and content during your self-care day.
Set the mood by dimming the lights, using lamps and candles to establish a soft glow rather than relying on the harsh glare of overhead lighting. Make your home smell pleasant too with candles or diffusers in your favourite scent, and listen to calming music or an audiobook.
Indulge in good food
Remember that proper nourishment is a key part of our well-being, so indulge in good food and your favourite drinks as part of your pampering plan.
Hydrate well with lots of water and soothing hot drinks like matcha tea. You could also treat yourself to a glass or two of champagne for the full spa experience. Match these drinks with reasonably healthy meals and snacks so you feel satiated but comfortable, and avoid spiking your blood sugar levels.
Plan your treatments

Take time to plan your treatments before you get stuck in. This will help you identify the best order for your activities and any special items you might need to buy.
Keep your treatments relatively simple so you can focus on relaxing during the day. Run a hot bath full of bubbles and follow it up with a body scrub and moisturiser to polish your skin. Give yourself a pedicure using just a basin of hot water, some polish, and something to buff away dead skin. You can also investigate self-massage using special manual tools or just your hands.
Set up different stations for each treatment with all the products you will need, with clean towels and flannels close at hand. You might find it helpful to print out instructions for each activity.
Wear comfortable clothes
Comfort is key to relaxation, so wear loose clothes that don’t feel restrictive and let you move easily. Breathable fabrics are best, as these will keep you dry and cool even when your pores are open. Go for weaves made from natural fibres like cotton and linen rather than polyester.
Regulate your temperature by wearing layers that can be added and removed to suit your mood. You can use blankets and thick socks to stay cosy when sitting still, as well as other comforting and warm items like your favourite jumper.
Put down your phone

You’ll likely have time to kill during your spa day as you let the lotions and potions work their magic. Give your mind the chance to unwind and put down your phone, giving you the rare treat of uninterrupted time.
Watch an uplifting film or series, or steer clear of screens altogether and read a book. You could also get creative with arts and crafts such as putting together a scrapbook, knitting or sketching.

I find it’s not so much fun or a treat doing it by yourself back at home. The Full Spa Experience, for me, is going somewhere, to nice surroundings, and having lovely things been done to your face by expert hands! It’s the only way to go!
I mean I do love going to proper spa but nothing like a bit of home pampering sometimes too.
Thank you Sarah, this will be wonderful for my two daughters xx
I hope your daughters have a lovely time having a home pamper.
This sounds right up my street, can’t wait to give it a go!
I hope you have a wonderful time enjoying an at home spa day.
Ooh i’m going to give this a try. Need to relax!
I hope it helps give you a bit of R&R time!
Not even a home one when you can pamper yourself as you like?
I love giving myself Indian head massages using Indian oils that I’ve gently warmed up. Regular at home pedicures and I do reflexology on myself. I make a jug of water with chopped fruit in it and relaxing spa music.
Ohh that all sounds absolutely lovely – what a way to treat yourself.
I love a spa type experience. I always make the rest of the day about it when I have my reflexology done once a month at home.
Bi monthly I also have added on a head massage too. They help with my health problems.
Weekly I do a homemade face mask, a long soothing shower and use a hair mask on my hair. I love setting it all up.
It helps relax and unwind, followed ofcourse prepped earlier by fresh bedding
Ohh I lobe this I love how you have such a nice routine going with it all!
All those suggestions are certainly important to get ready for an at-home spa but, I have to confess, I’d like somebody else to get the house ready for me! However, I like the idea of doing this for a family member as a gift or special treat.
Definitely its a lovely idea to set up as a treat for a friend or family member.
Ohh, some great ideas here!
Which is your favourite from the list?
Really great point about technology!! So so important!!
Do you think your be giving a home spa day a try?
I second the last point about taking a break from technology to properly unwind.
Definitely I think we are so connected these days – sometimes we need to take a step away.
This sounds great, would love to treat myself with a spa session!
I hope you get to enjoy one soon!
I don’t think this will ever happen for me. Maybe an hour in the bath reading and a face mask.
That can be your at home spa day the great thing is you can tailor it to you!
