A Cosy City-Centre Stay at Brooks Guesthouse Bristol – Review

Earlier this year my parents went to visit the Brooks Guesthouse in Bristol and they enjoyed it so much that they asked if they could write a post all about it. So today I hand my blog over to them to tell you all about this interesting getaway. 

Nestled in the heart of Bristol’s Old City Centre, Brooks Guesthouse offers the ideal location for exploring this vibrant city. From its proximity to the theatre, restaurants, as well as clubs, and bars. Brooks delivers convenience wrapped in charm.

We entered the guest house via St Nicholas Market Place, which consists of several covered avenues filled with stalls providing street food and ingredients, at the other end we stepped out into a cobbled alleyway. From here we could see the entrance to the beautiful garden of Brooks Guesthouse. This little green space was a lovely introduction to the hotel and made a peaceful access to the foyer. Upon entering, we were met with warm smiles from the staff, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome right from the start.

A Comfortable, Stylish Stay

Our first-floor room was a perfect blend of comfort and style. Decorated to a high standard without an ounce of pretentiousness (a big plus in our book!), the room felt inviting and homely. It featured everything we needed for a relaxing stay, including plenty of tea, coffee, and drinking chocolate. Our daughter, who had kindly arranged the stay, even had chocolate and a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us.

Though there was a lift, which we gratefully used upon arrival and departure due to our luggage, we opted for the stairs during our stay. There was something quite charming about walking up and down the creaky wooden staircases that added to the overall atmosphere of this quirky yet stylish guesthouse.

The Breakfast of Champions

Breakfast at Brooks is certainly something to rave about. The guesthouse offers a bottomless breakfast, and I started with the continental buffet, indulging in cereal, fresh fruit, and a delicious compote all topped with an incredible yoghurt. The spread included pastries and toast, which I found myself struggling to finish when a friendly member of staff asked if I was ready to order a cooked breakfast (all cooked fresh to order). I had to decline that morning, but on the second day, I paced myself with the buffet and ordered avocado on sourdough topped with poached eggs. I cheekily requested a slice of bacon, and to my delight, they added two generous slices!

The range of cooked options was vast, and there were daily specials available as well. Coffee lovers will be pleased to know that a large pot of freshly brewed coffee is brought to the table – perfect for refills – and the quality is top-notch. As someone with rather high coffee standards, I was thoroughly impressed.

Exploring Bristol

Brooks Guesthouse is ideally located for exploring the city. We took a walk along the river, passing by the historic SS Great Britain, though we chose to continue our stroll and explore new sights. While we’ve seen the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge on previous visits, this time we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Constable’s Hay Wain, on display in Bristol for the summer. In the evening, we enjoyed a fantastic performance of Hamilton at the Hippodrome, just a short walk from the guesthouse.

Overall, Brooks Guesthouse provided the perfect base for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in Bristol. Its location, comfortable rooms, and delicious breakfast make it a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the city. The staff’s friendly and attentive service truly makes it feel like a home away from home.

We definitely wouldn’t mind going again!
