How effective storage can help you sell your home
When it comes to selling your home, there are a number of things you need to keep in mind. While it’s vital that you choose the right estate agent and decide on a reasonable asking price, it’s also important that your property is appealing on the inside – especially when it comes to storage. Prospective buyers will want your home to provide them with enough space to keep all of their belongings. Here we take a look at a few of the reasons why including effective storage in your property can help you sell it.
Make your rooms appear bigger
Aside from helping you keep your home organised, storage can make your rooms appear much bigger than they actually are, which is a big plus for the people viewing your property. In most cases, prospective buyers are looking to get as much square footage as they can for their budget, so by investing in space-saving storage, your home is bound to tick all the right boxes. For example, you could install a fitted wardrobe along one of the walls in your bedroom, or you could fill a slim space in your kitchen with a pull-out pantry style cupboard. Even if you have awkward shapes in your home, such as slanting ceilings, you could have a shelving unit fitted. For example, websites like shelvingsystem.co.uk allow you to create modular units that fit specific spatial requirements, such as areas under eaves or cupboards under the stairs.
Swap chaos for clutter-free
Clutter can be a huge turn off during a property viewing. Having too much stuff on display can make your rooms look chaotic and messy, which in turn can give off a negative vibe to prospective buyers. If you’re guilty of being a little on the untidy side, you might find it useful to invest in some suitable storage so you can stow away your belongings. By tidying away your bits and bobs, you’re more likely to impress viewers, resulting in a much quicker sale of your home.
Create a clearer vision
Kitting out your spaces with savvy storage solutions also gives potential buyers the chance to visualise what each room would look like once they’ve put their own stamp them. It can be difficult to picture yourself living in someone else’s space. So by keeping your stuff out of sight, you can make it easier for the people viewing your property to imagine themselves setting up home there.
Investing in storage is an easy and effective way to make your home more appealing, and by keeping these tips in mind, you shouldn’t have to wait long before your pad is taken off the market.

I love having a clutter free home. Having a good storage also makes your home nicer to look at, especially the kitchen!
These are really good tips. Keeping rooms clutter free makes a huge difference in how people see the home.
It really does doesn’t it. It is amazing the difference space makes as well. x
Our house doesn’t have a ton of storage so clearing up clutter is a must. It seems like with the kids, it all just piles up the minute you clear things up. LOL
clutter free is the main reason for me. when a house has few cabinets or storage, it’s a turn off.
Very true! Storage is something that I always look for when I’m home shopping. I love that I have adequate storage space here in my current home, but even then I sometimes think it appears a bit cluttered which stresses me out. Great tips!
I think the more space in your house is what will definitely help sell any home. These are great tips!
A clean and well-organized house is important for sure.
I could see how it would be helpful in preparing a house for being sold.
Is it crazy that I am totally going to use these tips and I have no intention of selling my house?! These are great for getting organized and simply living in a less cluttered space!
No of course not – I think we all need a little help with getting more space! x
We have a small space, so for me it is really hard to find storage solutions. These are good tips for me!
It is awful isn’t it – we thought when we went from a flat to a bungalow we would get more space, but we have less (was worth it) but it does mean thinking carefully about everything we bring into the home. x
This is great! We don’t own so we really don’t have to worry about this, but when we do own I’m grateful I’ll have this knowledge! We can use all the storage space we can get!
We have been planning to add more storage spaces to our home, especially shelves. I don’t like clutter, but I want to be able to find things I need in one glance. I prefer shelves over drawers.
Storage was one of the most important things we were looking for when we were shopping for our home. I always looked in every closet and cabinet with no shame because I needed to know how much of our stuff we were actually going to be able to fit in the new house.
Ah, I hadn’t considered this but working on this would be a great use of time. I know I’d be more likely to buy a house that didn’t seem cramped or cluttered.
My husband and I are like that Love It or List It show. I’m ready to go, but he loves this house. I think better storage would help me love it more.
Ekk good luck if you do decide to move in the long run. x
I am a huge fan of creating usable storage areas. I hate clutter, so proper storage is a must for me to feel like I have a clean home and a clear mind.
We are redoing the storage in ou house. It has made our house look so much nicer.
Even though we aren’t trying to sell our home, this post reminds me that I need to revisit the storage in my house. It is chaos everywhere right now!
Good luck with finding the perfect storage for your home 🙂 x
I totally get this. We have a small home and storage is non-existent. We have had to create storage. I was recently complimented on how I created storage and made the space look neat and organized.
It is so hard isn’t it – we are in a 1 bed bungalow and it’s tiny as well and finding space for everything is so hard! x
I fell like there’s never enough storage because I have too much stuff. These are great tips and I need to get organized!
Haha yes that’s probably one of my issues as well – way to much stuff! x
These are great tips. Storage is always helpful even if you aren’t selling.
Most definitely we need to try and work out more here, just because it is so small. x
These are really great tips. We are currently renting, but I still need to organize and declutter several rooms.
It is so easy to just gain belongings isn’t it – sometimes I wonder where they come from.x
Storage options are definitely a big selling point for me in a home, especially built ins. They offer great storage, and they look so good.
I would love a place with more storage that is for sure, a bit of a dream I guess you could say. x
This is a great post. I know when we were shopping for our home, storage was something I noticed immediately.
