  2. I have just read Camilla by Fanny Burney. The longest book I have ever read full of poetic, 18th century language. I found it quite addictive after the initial shock. All the time I was reading it I was reminded of Jane Austen’s books not knowing until I had a chat with AI about it that Burney wrote before Austen but was a huge influence on Austen’s work. Austen’s masterpiece was originally titled First Impressions. When she renamed it Pride and Prejudice, she is thought to have lifted the phrase directly from the final pages of Burney’s 1782 novel, Cecilia. In it, a character proclaims: “The whole of this unfortunate business… has been the result of pride and prejudice.
