6 Reasons Why You Should Adopt a Rescue Dog Right Now
Sometimes in life, we can feel pretty powerless to make a significant difference — at least in the short term. Of course, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try our best.
For example, we should do what we can to reduce our ecological footprint (like buying beauty boxes made from environmentally aware practices and materials).
But we all know that it’s going to take a while — we’re talking generations here — for the world’s biggest polluters to realize that there is no Planet B.
We either get green, or we disappear.
And then, there are ways that we can make a profound, transformative and immediate difference.
And for those of you with enough love in your heart and room in your home for a pet (or another pet to add to your roster!) or if you’re wondering whether you should get a dog, I can think of no better way to accomplish this amazing goal than by adopting a rescue dog.
Here are the 6 reasons why you should adopt a rescue dog:

- You’ll save two lives.
When you adopt a rescue dog, you won’t just give him or her a second chance at a much better and longer life, but you’ll create a space in the shelter for another abused or neglected dog.
You’ll be a hero — times two!
- You can see how the dog behaves in a home environment.
Before you adopt a dog, you’ll have the chance to see how it behaves in a home environment.
You can also get important insights on how the dog is around kids, whether it needs lots of attention, and so on.
What’s more, many rescue dogs are fully trained and housebroken, which will make things much easier for you and your new best friend.

- You’re not taking chances with vaccinations and exams.
Rescue dogs from legitimate organizations (which is most of them) are all fully screened for vaccinations, have been examined by a veterinarian, and are either spayed or neutered.
You’ll also get all of the paperwork to take to your own veterinarian.
- You’ll save money.
Dogs from pet stores cost several hundreds of dollars, and sometimes well over a thousand.
However, most rescue dogs cost around $50-$200, which is a real bargain when you consider what you’re getting.
What would you rather have: a new pair of boots, another gadget (to add to your vast collection of gadgets), or the joy of saving a dog and changing a life?
- You’ll have plenty of choices.
Do you want cute and cuddly “lap dog” that snuggles next to you, or are you inclined to get a large dog that is sturdy and powerful like stone monument signs?
When you decide to adopt a rescue dog, you’ll have plenty of choices and can pick the dog that fits you best (and vice versa!).

- You can “try before you buy”.
Sometimes in life, things don’t quite work out as everyone hoped. If you bring home a rescue dog who doesn’t fit in the new environment — or if you realize that you need a dog that requires a less vigorous exercise regimen — then you can foster a rescue dog at home.
If things work out, then you can formally and permanently adopt. If not, then you can call the organization that facilitated the foster placement and they’ll either give you the training and resources you need to make things work or let you return the dog to the shelter.
The Bottom Line
When you adopt a rescue dog, you’ll be changing a life — and I’m not just talking about the loveable pooch who you bring home.
I’m talking about changing your life in ways that you can imagine, and even more, ways that you cannot! Trust me: your only regret will be that you didn’t adopt a rescue dog sooner.
The “return on investment” is truly, truly profound.
