What’s Trending in Beauty in 2023
With each new year comes a new set of trends in the beauty industry, with new hair, makeup, and skincare looks taking over social media and influencing the market. Companies like Research America conduct market research which provides insight into market and consumer demand within the beauty industry. While the most important part of any beauty routine is finding products and steps that work for you, here are some trends you can expect to see all over your social media feeds in 2023.
Minimalist Skincare
While beauty influencers have popularised complicated skincare routines using products with flashy packaging and purchasing of products in excess, we can expect skincare routines to be simplified moving forward. Minimalist skincare is trending right now, focusing on a few key products that work for your skin. Cutting down on the products you are putting on your skin and investing in 1-3 premium quality products like face wash, serum, and moisturiser can provide great results.

Skin Focused Looks
In recent years, social media platforms like Instagram have popularised flawless, full coverage, full glam makeup looks. Recently, the more popular alternative has been people embracing their natural skin and unique facial features and going for a simpler look that features minimal face makeup and highlights their complexion. Dewy skin is also making a comeback, as many people are using products to add an intentional shine and glow to their faces to help makeup look even more natural.
Glitter
Previously, glitter in makeup looks was typically reserved for special occasions and fun events, such as parties or festivals. Social media has popularised glitter for everyday looks, on the eyes, and even spread all over the face. The use of glitter is one of the biggest reflections of the more casual nature of beauty trends since the pandemic; makeup should be a fun way to express yourself, and glitter is a great example.
Retro Hair
Hairstyles from previous decades are making a comeback in a major way. Voluminous curls and shagged cuts from the 70s have been made easy to achieve with tools like hot air round brushes that have been popularised on social media. For a more casual look, the claw clip trend from the 90s is trending, encouraging many to ditch their traditional hair ties in favour of a clip.
Coloured Eyeliner
Like glitter, brightly coloured eyeliner is a great way to have fun and express yourself by doing a creative look. You can use different colours to accentuate your eye colour. For example, green eyeliner is flattering on brown eyes, and gold can give green eyes an extra pop.
