Are you in need of some TLC? Would you love to head out on a spa day? But your pockets just won’t allow it to be? Then, how about making yourself a spa day at home? OK, you might not be able to get that full-body massage, but with the use of body scrubs, hair masks, a good playlist and some imagination, you can enjoy your own spa day at home.
Setting the Mood for A Relaxing Spa Day at Home

The key to any spa-like experience is the atmosphere. If your home feels calming, it’s much easier to switch off and unwind. You don’t have to do a lot to make this happen at home, but it can be worth taking the time to follow at least some of these ideas.
Create Soft Lighting for Instant Cosiness with Candles
Lighting can make or break the mood. Look to invite the right mood into your home spa by utilising candlelight or dimmable lamps. No turning the big light on! Tealights are cheap and effective, and if you’re feeling crafty, try upcycling old jars into charming candleholders.
Soothing Scents with DIY Aromatherapy
Fragrance plays a huge role in relaxation; however don’t think you need expensive diffusers. A few drops of essential oil in a bowl of steaming water can create an instant aromatherapy session. Wondering what sort of scent to go for? Lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint are excellent choices for relaxation and stress relief. You could also use scented candles to help with both scent and light.
Background Sounds to Transport You
Music and nature sounds can help to create that ‘spa’ feeling. Search for free spa playlists on YouTube or Spotify. Not quite sure what to go for? then, think of soft instrumentals, ocean waves, or rainfall. Set the volume low, and let the gentle sounds can help to melt your stress away.
DIY Spa Treatments Using What You Already Have

Luxury doesn’t have to come with a big price tag. Look to incorporate simple treatments using items you may already have at home, such as bath salts or a bubble bath, a sheet mask or a heated eye mask.
Homemade Face Masks for Glowing Skin
Forget expensive skincare products, and instead, look to your kitchen if you don’t have a face mask to hand! Try these for the perfect facial self-care moment:
- Hydrating Mask: Mix honey and oats for a nourishing, skin-soothing treatment.
- Exfoliating Scrub: Blend sugar with mashed cucumber for a refreshing scrub.
Relaxing Bath Soaks for the Ultimate Wind-Down
A long soak in the tub is the ultimate relaxation. Elevate your bath with:
- Epsom Salts & Lavender: Perfect for muscle relaxation and stress relief.
- Baking Soda & Chamomile Tea Bags: A gentle detoxifying soak.
At-Home Manicure & Pedicure: The Perfect Pamper Moment
We often overlook our hands and feet, but they deserve some love, too! Start with a simple soak in warm water, followed by an exfoliating scrub made from olive oil and sugar. Then finish off with a rich moisturiser to keep them soft and smooth.

DIY Loofahs & Scrubbers
You might want to treat yourself to a brand new exfoliating mitt or exfoliating brush, but you don’t have to, as these DIYs can be just as good.
- Exfoliating Rice Scrubber: Wrap a handful of uncooked rice in a muslin cloth or an old (clean!) sock and tie it off.
- Coffee Grounds Scrub Pad: Mix used coffee grounds with coconut oil and rub onto your skin using a washcloth or sponge for an energising exfoliation.
- Crochet Scrubbies: If you’re crafty, you could look to crochet your own reusable scrubbers using cotton yarn. Not only are they great for gentle exfoliation, but they can be washed and reused.
Cosy Towels & Dressing Gowns

A fluffy towel or soft dressing gown can make all the difference and are something we often have around the home anyway. However, if you do look to buy, remember there is no need to splurge; budget-friendly options can feel just as indulgent. Give them a spritz of lavender mist for an added spa-like touch.
