The Rise of The Travel Influencer
A couple of weeks ago I spoke about why being a digital nomad is popular. Of course, one of the ways people look to work and travel is as an influencer. Be that blogger, vlogging or on Instagram.
For many sharing their adventures with the world has become a way of life and allows them to keep travelling.
However, why is this happening? Why are people turning to influencers to get their ideas for travel? And what are those people getting from sharing their adventures?
The Rise of The Influencer.
Social Media and the rise of people sharing their lives with others has been a huge driving force in changing how people work and see the world around them.
People get into this way of life for many different reasons. For me, I started my blog as a way to pull myself out of a dark place and give me purpose. I was lucky enough to build it up over the last 9 years.
However, blogging and the influencer community has changed a lot since then. People can set out to purposefully enter this type of job and many are very successful at it.
For instance, Ashley Beougher and her family travel across the globe. As an influencer, she felt the want to inspire other families with their travels and show how it has connected them on another level. She also points out that many travel companies want different things, beautiful photos, drone footage, area tours. It is always worth sharing your strengths as you never know what may take a companies fancy.
Why Share It All?
One of the great things about being a blogger for me is you can share as much or little as you like. While I am always honest, it doesn’t mean I share everything. Ash and I both hate having our photos taken, so I don’t include pictures of us and that is something you can work with no matter what your particular niche is.
While, of course, it is fun to see people enjoying the activities they get up to, it isn’t always necessary. If you have an eye for showing surroundings around you just beautiful shots and footage can be enough to leave people feeling breathless.
Is it All About Travel?
Of course, even as a travel influencer it doesn’t have to be just about travel.
Many people have found ways to share travel-related items, such as clothing, to help supplement their time and income while on their travels.
In fact, Instagram has a huge impact on what people buy for their travels these days. This offers another income stream for travel influencers, sharing and providing feedback on travel items and clothing which help to make packing and travelling easier.
It is worth remembering however that while working in this field isn’t for everyone, nor is working with certain influencers for every brand. You have to be ready to accept the no’s and non-replies, alongside the yes. You have to be able to show what you can offer to each company.
Travel influencing can be such a fun niche to step into, however it can be hard to start off. If you have the drive to do it, it can be ever so rewarding and take you to places you could never have dreamed of.

The corona virus hit the pause button on my travel bucket list. And we were planning to travel the world now that the kids are all grown up and the hubs retired. Bummer!
I often blame these travel influencers because my bucket list & pinned places to visit on my maps in constantly growing! 😂

I wish i could travel more
It is something I would love to do more of one day for sure.
I love following and reading travel blogs, especially family travel blogs! I love how real they are and how you get a real glimpse of their holiday and travel from a real family rather than a travel company of brochure showing what they want you to see!
It is so fun isn’t it – I always feel I learn more about a location with them.
I love what influencers do because it gives all of us inspiration and ideas. Some have such unique stories and definitely allow you to explore a town further
I am wanting to add more travel posts into my blog but never sure where to start, we went away last weekend for our wedding anniversary so contemplating doing a post on that.
We love to travel something we love doing to relax and have fun. At first we travel as pleasure now it kinda become a part time job when i started a blog.
I guess that’s the downside to it, it does become a job rather than a holiday in some respects.
It’s incredible how people can make a living these days off social media. I have a few influencers I follow.
It is amazing isn’t it – I love that work is becoming more versatile.
I love the idea of a life influencer. But I love also to read about other’s travel adventure and I love to read something before choosing my new travel destination!
I have to admit I love reading about others travels as well – it amazes me the things people are able to do.
I’ve done some travel posts, but I’m more of just an influencer. I think it would be amazing to be a full time travel influencer. It would be great to travel more.
It would be crazy wouldn’t it – I couldn’t do it because of my health but part of me loves the idea.
I have done a few travel posts and they always do well. I write about my personal travels, but I’d love to learn more about how to benefit from those posts.
It is incredible how much traffic a travel post can get sometimes isn’t it?
I always enjoy hearing about other people’s travels. I love to learn about the culture in new locations too. It’s amazing how many bloggers have made this into a full-time career.
I have to admit I love doing the same, different cultures really interest me.

It is incredible all the different things people can do to make money now.
That is my dream job, but I guess that will remain as it is right now – a dream. If I had pursued this early in life, I would probably be a successful travel influencer by now. I am happy reading about other people’s travels. I still continue to dream though that one day or maybe in the next life, this dream will come true.

With all the resources out there, I don’t know that that’s really where people are getting their ideas from. Maybe if it’s lesser known places people otherwise may not find?
I think people want to know about all sorts of places and you can often come up with unique ideas even for the most trodden path.
I can so related to this post as that is why I started blogging, to share what places were around me as when I moved to UK 5 years ago, there was not many blogs showcasing what you can do locally and I was struggling to find places to go. Being a travel influencer is so important as others use your post as a guide.
It is amazing isn’t it – if you know a place well you can really guide people to go to unique things they wouldn’t have otherwise have thought of.
I would like to travel around the world at some point. For obvious reasons, I am unable to do so at the moment. But eventually I will be able to.
Keep it as an idea – you could always spend this time to plan!

This is a really useful take on this subject. Personally, I feel things like Instagram are just an add on to a presence most people already tend to have anyway and I think blogs still carry much more weight, but unfortunately, this seems to be changing little by little!
