These days many people take off and travel the world. It isn’t something new after all gap years before university have been done for many years.
However, the digital era has allowed more people to travel and work.
Thanks to the advancement of the internet and it’s availability in even in rural areas may people can now explore and work at the same time.
Even larger companies are taking on remote workers and again while this isn’t new as for years people have worked from home. It is now becoming more common for remote workers to be exploring the globe while they also complete their work.
However, is the life of a digital nomad for you?
The Right Job.
Much like traditional backpacking, being a digital nomad relies on finding work as you go.
Some people are lucky and have a job such as data entry, or accounting, which need little more than a good internet connection, the right knowledge and some specialise software.
However, it has also seen a rise in freelancers and bloggers, people who work for a number of individuals and can also use their travels as part of their work.
In fact, travel bloggers (such as Fly Drive Explore) and travel influencers via places like Instagram have become big business.
Where to Go?
When you’re a digital nomad the hardest part might be working out where to go next?

Know it is For You.
Let’s be honest, while the idea of taking off and exploring as and when you want seems amazing, it does have it’s downsides. So you want to make sure it is right for you.
Moving from one place to another can make you feel quite lonely and isolated from the world around you. Of course, there are people who thrive on this way of life, but for some, they want friends and family around can be far more powerful.
It can also be unpredictable. Of course, this is what attracts many to this way of life, they don’t like being tied down to a 9 – 5. However, should you find yourself without internet or have your belongings stolen it can have complications, as no internet or laptop can mean no work and no work means no pay.
Distraction is also something which is on the cards, I mean you in a beautiful new location, do you really want to get down and work?
Thinking through the pros and cons of this way of life is a must.
Have a Plan.
While of course part of the fun of being a digital nomad is going where you want, it all needs to start with a plan.
You’re going to want to check through your expenses, no point paying membership for something local when you are heading off around the globe. You will also want to create some sort of safety net and make sure if you need to go without working for a time you will be covered. As I mentioned in the previous section, all sorts can go wrong. So be prepared.
Make sure you have the right equipment to fully complete the tasks your job will entail.
Research your next stop. It might seem obvious but it isn’t all about just jumping from one place to the next. You are going to want to make sure they offer what you need. This might be as simple as offering wifi access, but let’s be honest, some places offer wifi which isn’t great – so check for reviews before booking your plane.
Once you have looked at the pro and cons of this way of life and made up your mind, there is nothing left to do but book your first tickets and set off on that travel dream.

As a digital nomad, I do love the travel and freedom of working from anywhere. However, these times are quite uncertain and who knows how the industry will evolve.
Some great ideas and tips
For school purposes, I wish it was stuff I was interested in and could stay motivated to continue. Otherwise, this would definitely be me in a heartbeat. I love to travel and I love staying digitally connected with the world and my friends.
It can be so hard to stay focused at times, can’t it? Even just working from home I can be distracted so easily.
My 2 older nephew’s whom are in university, when ever they can they go away and do any work that they has to be done, they do it and email it
That sounds like a nice way to do things. I think getting away can really revive the mind at times.
I have been travelling the world for more than a decade now,. My expenses are minimal and I do blog but not for £s. It’s a lifestyle choice, but I really ought to think about generating an income from somewhere sometime soon. Thanks for your comments, you have really made me think that perhaps I am just a volunteer digital nomad right now.

It would be amazing wouldn’t it? Just taking off and seeing everything.
I love the idea of this and think its great that there are so many jobs now offering more flexibility with work etc. However I definitely think I would struggle to stay motivated to do any work at all with so much to see and do in each new destination lol!
It is amazing isn’t it – I love that you don’t have to work the 9-5 I would never cope working in an office or anything structured so it’s a huge thing to me that you can work on your own time.

It can definitely be a downside if you are distracted easily.
I would love to do this, seeing the world while being able to work would be fabulous.

What an interesting post. It gave me food for thought as I had often wondered how people manage to live like this. Like many others, I am tied to my home and pets but bravo to those who are not and who go for it.
It is amazing how some do it isn’t it? I think if I wasn’t so poorly it would be amazing to just take off.

It’s wonderful that the digital age allows people to have the best of both worlds. Travelling and seeing the world whilst being able to make money as they go.
It is amazing how many oppurtunities it has opened up isn’t it?
I just couldnt do it, I would be far more interested in going sightseeing rather than taking my laptop with me and working where I could but that’s just me. Everyone is different and it’s a great opportunity for some people.
That would definitely be hard for so many people I think. You need to have a mindset that allows you to work as well.

I would love to be able to travel all over the world visiting all the different places. But it’s just not practical for me with 3 kids and also I don’t have the money. But I can always dream.
Nothing like dreaming about it happening one day – you never know what the future holds.
I would love a job like this where i can travel the world, enjoy the different cultures and see what each country has to offer, if i had the money i would do it and have a blog for this, for the older generation

I honestly would love to travel the world and to be able to work while doing it sounds like a dream come true.
My children are too young for this life but maybe one day. Although god knows where the digital world will be by then.
