Spend a Summer Hiking
If you are trying to think of something different to do this summer, how about taking yourself off on a walking holiday or a days hike? After all the UK is littered with some amazing parks, trail and hills, plus there is even the odd mountain if you are brave enough to take on the challenge of Ben Nevis.
However perhaps half the challenge of taking on a good hike is making sure you have the correct equipment and so lets wind it back a bit from hill climbing and pretend you are off for a day’s walking across a local common with your dog. You want to enjoy the beautiful views, let your pooch frolic and know whatever ground you come across you will be able to take it on with ease.
From personal experience I know the ground can go from flat, to steep, to rocky and muddy all within a few feet of each other once you get out into the countryside and so making sure you aren’t wearing flimsy shoes, with no grip is a must.
Let’s for instance look at Hi-Tec’s men’s hiking boots, they offer a wide range of different styles, for different purposes. When it comes to dog walking you are unlikely to come across a situation that really needs a metal toe plate, so you can quickly out those out, however waterproof and lightweight, with a good tread would be a plus. While if you want a boot or shoe style is really up to you and how you feel.
However, I guess the main part of spending a day out on the common with your dog, is making sure you both have the best of times, while saying safe and enjoying the beautiful countryside the UK has to offer.
Do you enjoy walking, what sort of shoes do you wear?

I used to enjoy walking a lot. But with kids all going to school plus a baby to look after, got no time to walk or i just make excuses. But this post inspire me to bring back the old hobby.
I used to climb mountains a few years back and it was such a great experience to share with your friends. Now I miss hiking!
Summer hiking is a nice way to spend an afternoon or early morning. You would need some sturdy boots.
It is a lovely way to get out and about isn’t it and just enjoy some fresh air and sun. x
When my dog was still alive, I would do long summer hike. It was really nice and in the middle I would take a picnic. xx
Aww I bet that was lovely – such a nice thing for you to do together as well. x
I have some walking shoes that I like to wear. We enjoy taking hikes in the summer to get away. Our dogs like it too!
My family and I enjoy hiking! It’s one of our favorite outdoor activities. I wish we have a nice trail nearby. Thanks for sharing!
We don’t have any near either really which is a shame. x
I actually do enjoy a good hike! Now only if my hubby and daughter did so I would have people to hike with lol
There is something freeing about getting out there with nature and just walking I think. x
Who doesn’t love hiking? Fresh air, nature, sunshine!
That is so true – nothing like being out in the fresh air! x
OMG that huksy is absolutely beautiful wow. I love that this is about hiking. I joined a gorup recently that’s going to be meeting up once a month to hike our locals heritage sites. can’t wait
My other half would love a husky, they are his favourite dogs. x
I am not so good in hiking since I always end up working all the time. But I guess this is the right time to unwind and relax. Thanks for the advice.
Hiking would be great!
I would love too! However, rainy seasons just started in our country. Maybe, I’ll do this next year.
Oh no – here’s hoping it isn’t too wet for you! x
I think hiking is a great exercise. It’s wonderful for the whole family too. I would love to go hiking with my family. I know we would all really enjoy it too.
It is amazing the things you can see as well when you are out in nature I always think. x
Strange I should come across your Walking article. I’ve been thinking we should look at a walking weekend/break. Maybe the universe is telling me something?
Ohh it must be – I hope you have a wonderful time when you go ;)x

The hidden parts when hiking up in the mountains can surely create an intense mood so better prepare some good shoes and not just an “okay” pair. That aside, hiking has always been a staple hobby of mine whenever I get some free time back at home.
That is very true – the harder the trails and the more off “road” you go the more you want to invest in looking for the perfect pair. x
I do love walking/ hiking, its something that is a lot of fun in Madeira because its so hilly and mountainous. Good hiking boots is a must!
There must be some amazing places out there to hike, most I’ve done is a Walsh mountain lol. x
I love hiking. It is prob time I spent some money to get a good pair of hiking boots. It is worth the cost, if you walk as much as I do.
Walking is one of my most favorite forms of relaxation and it’s for free! I really like hiking as well, because it’s so peaceful and you get to enjoy wonderful and breathtaking sights!
There are only a few hiking places near our place and we try to go whenever we can. Hiking is so much fun and it’s a great way to unwind.
It must be so nice getting out into them when you can 🙂 x
We have some big parks with great trails. I usually only hike in the spring and fall – it was 102 today.
I love hiking if there’s not too much uphill climbing. I have a hip and knee that get a bit cantankerous. I definitely need a good pair of hiking boots though.
Ekk I’m not too good with up hill either (well I’m not to good with much at all these days) x
I love hiking! That is my favorite thing to do every summer since I was a child.
There is something very freeing about just being out and walking the countryside. x
Thanks for the advices! This would be a perfect way to relax and feel renewed
Hiking is so refreshing. Growing up in Trinidad that was what I did at least twice a month, with our dogs. Having the proper shoes and mosquito repellent were life savers!
Oh wow I bet that was amazing – I used to love spending hours on the common with Sally. x
