  1. At the moment I am getting the pictures I want from my smart phone, it really surprises me the quality of picture you can get with them. But as my blog and photography improve I can see myself getting a “proper” camera.

    1. It is amazing how far they have come on – I’ve taken a few sneaky snaps with my phone sometimes when I can’t face getting the DSLR out. x

  2. I didn’t realize the mirror less camera was an option. We have a DSLR camera but never take the photos off of the stick!!

  3. An interesting question, but I don’t think we are there yet. Getting there would be hard due to physical limitations of a smartphone – you just add a better sensor and other technological improvements, but you’re still limited by the size of the lens. A DSLR will always have its place.

  4. I have to admit that I tend to use my smart phone camera more and more over my DSLR. I do agree that the camera photos are better but many times a phone camera photo will suffice. Great info here.

  5. I don’t think apps can replace a DSLR, I mean it’s a DSLR after all. I think they’re perfect for travelers though because phones are very convenient to bring along with you.

    1. I think they definitely have their place and it depends on the result you are looking for from the images as well. x

  6. I need a new iPhone, but when I had my 6 it sometimes took better photos than my actual camera. I think it all depends. I think its great that we can really pick and choose what we want to use now, back in the day it was always camera over phone!

    1. I have an iPhone 6 and I have to admit there are times I just use it instead of a DSLR, its just so handy. x

  7. I personally think a professional camera is always the better choice. But my phone does take great photos!

    1. They are definitely becoming better as the years pass it will be interesting to see what the next generation holds. x

  8. We beau and i were discussing this very topic yesterday and arrived at the same conclusion. Smartphones will never out perform a DSLR 🙂

  9. What a great conversation to have, I do think some smartphones can outdo the regular cameras.. my smarpthone camera isn’t that great I must admit. I long for a newer smartphone 😉

    1. They have so much potential – I mean in what 12 / 13ish years they have already come so far, it will be interesting to see where they go next. x

  10. I love how high of quality pictures I can get on my cell phone now!! I didn’t realize there are apps out there to help with picture quality!

  11. I love my iPhone camera and it’s perfect for what I need but I can still tell the difference between the quality of my phone and a DSLR. You really can’t beat a high quality camera lense!

    1. I think DSLRs definitely offer a much sharper image, but phone cameras these days can do a good job as well. x
