September 15 – Life in a Lockdown #24
So things are starting to get a little bit stricter again. No more meetings of people in groups of over 6 and more areas back on stricter rules. It is not surprising with the jump we have had. I guess all we can do is hope it gets things back under control again.
I have to admit I’ve not paid much notice to what the rules are for those going under this localised lockdown. However, I’ve heard you can’t go to a friends but can go to the pub. Ahh, England you and your love for pubs.
Of course, I have to start this by saying thank you to Bex at Futures for joining me each week and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part I promise it is simple:
We do ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, with how you find the link-up! You will be able to copy all the questions from below to answer in your own world.
Then all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and pop your link in the inlinkz so we can come and read your post.
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
3) What are your priorities at the moment, have you changed what you will / won’t go out for?
4) Have you found anywhere doing a really good job of catering to social distancing?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
6) How has your routine been this week?
7) What have you learnt over lockdown (this doesn’t have to be a skill, it could be about yourself, your family, or something else).
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?

So what did week 24 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
Painful, I mean I am always in pain but this week I’ve had some really bad pain days. While I’ve also suffered from very little movement in my left-hand side which means I’ve had to rely on Ash more.
I always feel awful asking him to fetch and carry things – I just want my body to work!
On the whole, I’m trying to stay away from the news. I find it affects me quite badly and so I have to pick and choose times when I can read it. For COVID news, I’m sticking to rundowns once a week from a reliable source.
I had a bit of a run-in, in a local Facebook group this week. Which made me again face some of my “demons”. Someone made a post about the local canal possibly being tarmac’d. Someone posted why would they do that? Me, being me said about making it more accessible. However, I was not ready for what that would cause AT ALL. I was basically told I shouldn’t have an opinion as I wasn’t born in the area, while someone else likened falling over with mobility issues to falling while running. Oh Boy!
I realised that for the first time since we moved to Staffordshire when I was a pre-teen, I had felt at home in this bungalow. 20+ years and all it took was one person in a Facebook group to remind me of those years where I was bullied for coming from somewhere else. Thankfully some lovely people stood up for me and I won’t let a minority take away the home I have found. However, it also showed issues I need to face and deal with, within myself.
While the falling comment – well that just reminded me how much of this world is inaccessible and why. Because people don’t understand. If your healthy and fit and fall you bounce back. Someone like me falls and they can’t move for a however long. So many people think that is OK as well, that is OK areas can’t be enjoyed by everyone and that became very obvious to me during that post.
I should probably add I’m don’t think the people were being ableist. I think they just didn’t want the area to be tarmac’d which I can understand, it doesn’t look good. However, as I never gave an opinion on if it should be or not, or spoke about how I felt around tarmac’d areas it was a little bit of a surprise.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
Sleeping, blogging, eating, sleeping, eating, blogging and that’s about it.
Sometimes I do too much blogging to distract myself and sometimes it’s all I do as I sleep so much. Sometimes it is hard to work out which side I am falling. I need to work that out.
3) What are your priorities at the moment, have you changed what you will / won’t go out for?
It’s the same old here.
We did go out to Fradley Canal to The Laughing Duck to meet my parents. With our hand sanitizer at the ready and a face mask, it was really nice to just be out the bungalow.
If you are in the area do give them a visit, they sadly suffered a big fire in July which took out the whole cafe. So they have been running from a catering van, with outdoor seating, which is socially distanced. So it actually felt really comfortable to go to. We had a cuppa and a piece of cake and chat it was nice.
The most normal thing we have done in a long time.
4) Have you found anywhere doing a really good job of catering to social distancing?
Perhaps I should have mentioned The Laughing Duck here!
It was quiet when we went and actually when we left we were the only people there. So timing might have been a factor. However, I felt fine with it all.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
I bought an anxiety mug from Sugar and Sloth (affiliate link).

It has been on my Etsy wishlist for ages and with how my anxiety is I thought right I’m getting it.
While my latest subscription box from Amazonite Griffin also arrived.

Just as a bit of an aside I set up a new Instagram @iamsarahlouiseb. There’s a competition running, also I’ll probably share a lot of small company buys there long term. So if you do like this section of Life in a Lockdown make sure you give that Insta a follow.
6) How has your routine been this week?
I don’t think I’ve had one this week, to be honest. Even my normally always at the same time bedtime seems to have been pushed back by half an hour.
I definitely need to change that.
7) What have you learnt over lockdown (this doesn’t have to be a skill, it could be about yourself, your family, or something else).
I miss the little things, like going to see family and friends. I took them for granted and I’m sad about that.
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Having things to keep my going, even if that’s just writing a blog post.

A huge thank you as always to everyone who linked up with us last week.

Love this idea – I need to try and join in. I also took my family for granted, such an important lesson that we can changes once restrictions are no longer in place.
Do come and join in! We would love it if you do! Its definitely something that has come to light with lockdown isn’t it 🙁
My week did not go well. I have an infected wound on my hand which is not good, being diabetic and all. I’ve had fever and chills for two days because of the infection. Tomorrow I go back to see my doctor. Maybe he will do an incision and debridement on my wound. Hopefully that would ease the pain and swelling.
Oh no, I am so sorry – it is crazy what being diabetic can effect, I didn’t realise until Ash was diagnosed! I hope you get some help from the doctor.
I’m so sorry to hear you’re in pain and that someone has been horrible to you – people can be so nasty and it’s really mean! Hope you feel better soon 🙂
Thank you so much, it amazes me some of the things people come out with.
I’m sorry to hear that someone on FB was horrid to you. I don’t understand why people feel the need to be unpleasant. I hope this week is kinder to you.
It’s strange how people can be isn’t it? I don’t understand it – it’s like a keyboard makes them think they can say / do anything.
I am so sorry to hear about Facebook, people can literally just be horrid. I hope it is a better one this week x
I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been in even more pain than normal. It’s bad enough living withit daily but when it gets worse it makes everything harder. Some people in local groups canbe really nasty I’ve found I normally avoid posting most things as I know some will just cause an arguement for the sake of it.
Yeah, you get used to it at a certain level and when it steps up it’s like oh thank you pain haha.
Some people on Facebook can be so rude it’s not nice I would just blank them. I think we have enough to dwell on without negative comments. I love the unicorn mug . Stay safe x
Thank you, I definitely need to grow thicker skin at times I think!
some cities are relaxing thigs a bit like stores and malls are busier but some are not. it really depends on the area.
It’s strange isn’t it – here you can be next to somewhere that is on a more strict lockdown.
I’m trying to stay away from the news too lately and it helped me a lot. I am more confident that things will go better but I am still careful about social distance and other covid rules.
It does help, doesn’t it? I feel like it’s good to know things going on in the world but when it starts to effect the way you can deal with life, you need to step away.
Sorry for what you have to go through facebook, It is not good place, I found only few people are nice . Looks like you are doing all the things what I am doing these lockdown period.
It’s hard isn’t it – I do love Facebook for keeping people connected but just sometimes people aren’t too nice too.
I find that exercise, fresh air and sunshine helps during the pandemic.
Definitely I think we all need to try and make sure we get some sunshine!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on facebook as so many people out there are oblivious to others and what they are going through. Also glad that you had the chance to head out to meet your parents. Do hope this week will be better for you
Thank you.
Facebook is such a weird place at times, isn’t it? I don’t understand it a lot of the time.
Oh I really hope the pain eases a little lovely . I give up with this pandemic and what we are allowed to do this moment then it changes then it goes back , I just can’t keep up
Thank you so much. It’s horrid isn’t it? I can’t keep up either it all just seems confusing to me.
There have been many times in the last few weeks that I have stepped back from facebook, so many keyboard warriors and the #bekind initiative didn’t last very long! I’m sorry someone said that to you but glad that people backed you up, and as you say its probably more to do with the fact they don’t want tarmac! I have lost count of the disagreements I have got into about tourists visiting our area, unfortunately without them, many of the local businesses won’t survive.
It is so silly how people view things, it’s like you are always the outsider unless your born and raised somewhere. Oh well.
Lately I have been feeling and coping well. I think we have turned the final corner on this thing.
Aww so glad things are going better for you – I hope we have though we seem to be getting worse here again.
I’ve been struggling, and i’ve stepped away from facebook, too much negativity on it
It’s such a weird place at the moment I want my timeline of animals back!
People can be really mean, especially when they are hiding behind a computer screen. And it feels that since the pandemic started, harsh words are flying around more often than necessary. Shouldn’t be like that. Sorry that those people thought the best way to answer to you was through nasty words.
Thank you, it always amazes me what people will say behind a screen, many of them were the elder generation as well, it was more the youngsters that stuck up for me.
Facebook is a funny thing. I stay away from the local groups as there are some very strong opinions on there and god help you if you disagree or put forward another argument. I love your new mug!!
It is strange isn’t it how some people can be? Thank you it is so much fun isn’t it!
I love the anxiety unicorn mug; I’d be tempted to treat myself to one of those with your link!
Ohh go on, it’s a small business as well making them so lovely to support them too!
Sucks so much when the keyboard ninjas are rude. It’s so easy to be mean on Facebook but glad you had support. I love that anxiety mug and may have to grab one myself.
It really is – I can’t believe how some people think to be honest. It is so fun, isn’t it? Nice size too.
I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been in so much pain this week, I hope it eases up for you. Like you I’m trying not to read the news as it’s just depressing. I tend to keep myself to myself I don’t go out that much at the moment as it’s just safer x
It’s so hard isn’t it – it sends me into feeling worse which just isn’t worth it.
Sorry you’ve been struggling with pain. That’s never easy. I hope you feel better really soon!
Thank you – it is always there just sometimes worse than others for sure.
Just remember, Facebook trolls delight in starting arguments and spreading vitriol, it’s easy to do when they’re not face to face, it’s their issue, not yours!
Thank you, I definitely need to try and remember that – they have no idea sometimes do they?
Aww bless you Sarah, definitely dont let that person ruin your mood and make you feel unwelcome. Ignore them and glad some stood up for you.
Thank you – I was so sad at the time, I think as it rememinded me of those days from school.
I work from home so my life pretty much is being on lockdown the biggset adjustment for me has been to have my husband all day at home. He needs to go back to work, pronto!
Oh bless you – yeah I can imagine having someone new around can be a bit of an adjustment.
Life since this pandemic and quarantine has always been a challenging one for each day but I gotta say that we’ll get through it everyone!
Sorry to hear about Facebook. People can be so mean.
Thank you, they really can at times, I don’t get it?
The Amazonite Griffin subscription looks wonderful and that mug you bought is super cute! It will be interesting to see how well these stricter rules work.
Isn’t it just fab – it is definitely one of my favourite subs at the moment.
Oh gosh, I feel like I need that mug. I can so relate to it. Plus I like that it’s colorful!
It is fab, isn’t it! I love all the different bits she does.
I’m beginning to get super frustrated with people in general thanks to the Pandemic. There are so many people who just will not do the small things that would have us out of this so much sooner.
I totally understand this, I can understand the way some people are behaving.
I am so sorry to hear about Facebook, people can literally just be VILE and it is the exact reason I use it just for my blog now. I have been there and it leaves you feeling rubbish and questioning your own actions, Please don’t. As you say you didn’t even voice an opinion.
Take care this week, I hope it is a better one x
It’s horrid isn’t it – I ventured back in the other day and they were at someone for some equally stupid reason and all they did was ask a question. I don’t get why they can be so horrid.
I’m sorry you had a bit of a run-in on Facebook. That’s so disheartening, but I’m glad people were there to back you up!
Definitely it made me feel a little better that at least some people got what I was saying.
