September 22 – Life in a Lockdown #25
It’s been a strange week – my anxiety has definitely spiked a little again. So I’ve tried to take a break from the news.
Taking a break from the news for your mental health can be a good thing. I still keep in touch with current affairs, by being passed things from friends and family. However, I don’t overexpose myself, thus helping bring down my anxiety levels.
Before I go any further, I have to start this by saying thank you to Bex at Futures for joining me each week and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part, it is simple:
We ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, as hosts of the linkup and you can copy the questions below.
After that; all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and add your link in the inlinkz . .
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
3) What are your priorities at the moment, have you changed what you will / won’t go out for?
4) Have you found anywhere doing a really good job of catering to social distancing?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
6) How has your routine been this week?
7) What have you learnt over lockdown (this doesn’t have to be a skill, it could be about yourself, your family, or something else).
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?

So what did week 25 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
The past week has been a bit of a blur. I picked up my new glasses, which actually are better than my old ones. However, I still can’t see the TV clearly in them. However, I’ll take anything for those weeks I can’t wear on my contacts.
For some reason, my left eye hasn’t been liking contact this week either – so all-around a pain in the eye week.
DBT is still going on, I have come to the conclusion I hate it, but only because it is actually helping me face some demons. I’m hopeful long time it will have been a huge help.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
DBT Monday as always which always knocks me out for a couple of days. Ash had a dentist appointment, we saw my parents and we got my glasses.
All in all, not a bad week I guess and no wonder I am feeling a bit exhausted from it all.
3) What are your priorities at the moment, have you changed what you will / won’t go out for?
We are probably trying to be a bit more careful again. I am worried about the winter will hold – I think with the weather getting cooler again, my thoughts might be wondering about “worst-case” again.
Definitely need to switch that off.
4) Have you found anywhere doing a really good job of catering to social distancing?
We haven’t been anywhere new this week, to be honest. So nowhere new to add to the list.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
I haven’t bought anything myself, however, a couple of weeks ago I got a mask gifted to me from Thanks for Masking Co.

I love the flamingo fabric and Emma who runs the company will happily sew your initials or something a bit more fancy into your mask if you so wish.
Made from 100% cotton, soft elastic for around the ears and has the ability to insert a filter. Plus of course, it is machine washable.
Definitely one of my favourite masks when it comes to them being soft and comfortable!
6) How has your routine been this week?
I haven’t really had one, to be honest, this past week. I do need to try and get back into one as it does do me good.
7) What have you learnt over lockdown (this doesn’t have to be a skill, it could be about yourself, your family, or something else).
Honestly, BDT has me learning a lot – not all of it I’m a fan of, both because I don’t get on with some techniques and of course, because sometimes things are hard to accept.
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Sleep it has to be sleep. Though if it was more restful I would be even more grateful – I’m sick of never feeling like I’ve had a good nights sleep.

A huge thank you as always to everyone who linked up with us last week.

i love your mask sarah,i bought some really nice glow in the dark ones for me and my partner but i can only wear mine when im out shopping,i have to wear a mask constantly at work and the hospital ones are awful,my skin has never looked so bad,i can relate to so many thing you have spoken about, sleep is my ultimate bug bare, some nights im awake nearly every hour and its driving me crazy,as im a worrier i find it hard to switch off,i wish they would invent an app that can turn your brain off as soon as you get into bed,id gladly sign up for that.
Ohh, glow in the dark sounds fun! It’s so hard, isn’t it? I think so many are suffering with their skin at the moment.
Now that is an app I wouldn’t mind either!
I love having a read of these and seeing how everyone is getting on in lockdown. I might have to join in myself!!
Louise x
Please do join in that would be awesome! I am glad you are enjoying reading them as well.
Love the mask! I’ve been very sensitive and on the edge lately. I had to have my time alone.
It’s so hard isn’t it, I hope you are feeling a bit more yourself soon.
You seem to be coping well throughout this pandemic which is good to hear. It is hard for all of us, but the best thing we can do is to be sensible and perhaps stay away from the news for a little while, as much as we can. Another great post as always. x
Definitely, I have to admit if we went into lockdown again I think I would struggle to cope.
I really wish I would of took part in these from day one as i love reading them. Try not to stress to much about winter love. Keep doing what your doing. Youve got this
You can join in now, never too late – I can’t see us stopping soon with the way things are sadly going.
I have no desire to go to a restaurant or a pub, or go on holiday, until a safe vaccination campaign has successfully innoculated the majority of the population. Until then, no scheme is going to entice me outside except for essentials.
I am the same – it is hard isn’t it – I would love to get away but I just don’t feel safe at all.
I love these check-in questions you add for us in your post. It’s a great way to connect over this craziness.
I am currently slogging through my VA work, just trying to keep my head up. I firmly believe I had COVID back in February before it was a wide-spread thing. I know the doc said people were getting it then. Since then, I have cycles of intense fatigue that I just have to work through. So right now, I’m feeling a bit whiney, but by tomorrow, I’ll be less “meh”.
There’s a condition called post viral fatigue, I think a lot of people will find they get it after covid. It is what I was diagnosed with after I have swine flu, sadly I never got over it so it was bumped up to ME / CFS status along with some other things. So this is where covid actually really scared me. I went from someone who was pretty active, to someone who care barely walk from the bed to the sofa just from having flu. So I don’t fear getting covid I feel like I wouldn’t be hit badly by the virus itself but the lasting effects I can’t deal with more for myself.
I hope your fatigue in the long run gets better, it is an awful wall to hit and hard to explain to anyone who’s not experience it. If you need to look into pacing in the short term because even mental activities will bring on fatigue so it’s a balancing act.
I think things have been going pretty well so far. My kids decided they wanted to homeschool, so that was a big change for us. Luckily it’s been going well. I just hope this is all over with soon. I know my kids want to go back to school.
I’m so glad it is going well for you – I can definitely understand some kids wanting to homeschool.
I’m also on a bit of a news break. These are scary times for so many people. My mom went to therapy for years and while it was emotionally draining for her at times, it made a HUGE difference in her life. I hope you can stick with your therapy and that it helps you a lot.
Thank you – as much as I hate it I know it’s doing me good and that I can’t get better without facing the hard times. So I’m pushing through, stayed very quiet at the last session listening which help me that once.
Love the fabric on the mask. I have loads now as we have to wear them in the school I work at.
It is really nice isn’t it – I am getting quite a collection myself as well I have to admit.
Definitely a bit up and down , we all thought normality was returning and now its uncertain again . But we have all got to get on and hope that things once again improve , I am just concerned about school don’t want my children missing out on anymore
It is hard isn’t it – I’ve been saying this week I don’t think I would deal with a lockdown again very well.
I have been trying to focus on family and work and tuning out the news. The news has been too overwhelming and I’ve found that I am more relaxed not watching it.
It is really overwhelming isn’t it – I like to keep up to date with things going on in the world but sometimes it really just is too much and it’s OK to admit that and turn it off (as I keep having to tell myself).
It has been such a bizarre week regarding the news and everything hasn’t it? I think the rules will be even stricter still soon.
It really has I feel like my heads all over the place trying to work it out.
Disconnecting from the news every so often is good mental health practice, I do it all the time and I think its good for his health.
Definitely I think it’s one of those things everyone needs to do at times.
I have been in need of a news break as well, and it always helps. I only read what really seems vital information and try to let the rest pass by.
Exactly I think sometimes there is so much pressure on knowing everything going on in the world and let’s be honest, the world isn’t the nicest place especially right now so sometimes we need to look after ourselves.
I totally agree with you taking a break from the news, I have found it really overwhelming too. Sorry youre not getting on with your BDT but hopefully it will work out for the best
I think it will – I think I’m hating it because it’s working and making me face things and I guess that’s what it should do.
A news break is a good idea! I’m getting super worried because if we do end up on a complete lockdown over Christmas, I’ll be spending the day alone as my boyfriend is an essential worker of sorts…so I’m not looking forward to that! Although it will be worth it to keep people safe of course!
Louise
Oh no that’s not good – I’m hoping that we aren’t on lockdown for Christmas, I find it such a difficult time of year and having family around helps.
My anxiety has spiked too,ive been keeping busy,baking/cooking,and preparing for halloween and xmas
Ohh that sounds like a good way to keep yourself busy!
I learned very early on to take a break from the news. It’s really too much at times.
I have learnt a lot this past lockdown. And taking a break from news is okay. Cuz most of the time, the news are just so heartbreaking.
It really isn’t it? It’s horrid to listen to or read.
It’s a must isn’t it – I’ve heard people say but if you don’t read the news you’re being ignorant, it isn’t that at all, sometimes you need to just hear the important things without hearing it all.
I definetly agree this is an issue that is unlike anythint any of us have ever been through.
It’s so hard isn’t it – know exactly how to deal with everything.
I went to a restaurant last week – brave. I walk in the morning.
Oh wow, that is brave – I’ve not done it yet – thought I’ve thought about it.
My anxiety has spiked too but the physical symptoms I started getting breathless along with ectopic heartbeats quite scary there are so many physical symptoms it’s hard to believe . Then it just upsets your system. Quite down too but will let it flow over as I already have a high amount of medication. I hope you’re feeling better soon I’m also tired of the news . I think so many people are suffering due to lockdown it seems like it’s never ending x
My physical symptoms around anxiety at the moment are completely the opposite to my normal ones – I’m used to breathing quickly, however, I’ve stopped breathing instead, the feeling in my chest is in a different position it is so weird.
What a cute mask, totally loving the flamingo design! I am the same, I switched off moons ago from what the media are reporting, it just gets too much and all the Covid stuff is exhausting now. This year is an utter write off! Sim x
It is really nice, isn’t it? Who doesn’t love some flamingos haha! It really is overwhelming and I am dreading them tightening things up again to be honest.
I am worrying about the winter, it all seems to be going backwards at the moment and it is worrying. I need to go to the opticians I am trying to get all three of us their which is causing an issue
It’s a bit scary isn’t it – I’m struggling with all the new changes and dreading what will be said tonight.
I worry about the winter as well. I hope everything goes okay.
I like that flamingo fabric as well. Too cute!
I hope my imagination is just a bit over active with it all.
It is adorable isn’t it?
Glad to hear your keeping your anxiety under control. I understand how awful it can be.
Thank you – it is hard going very tiring – hopefully, things will start to get better.
Having a news break is definitely a good idea. It will hopefully help ease the anxiety you’re feeling. Big hugs and be kind to you xx
Thank you – it is amazing how much it can help. I’ve had to do it generally before just because the world can be overwhelming I think.
Having a news break is definitely a good idea to help ease anxiety. I have to be very careful what I watch. Beginning of lock down just watching the news caused panic attacks hyperventilating, heart palpitations, then I vomit and pass out in that order. I couldn’t even watch David Attenborough programme called extinction even clips made me panic! Ironically I am not scared of dying but I worry about my daughter and grandchildren. Look after yourself and do whatever it takes xx
It is hard, isn’t it? It is strange the way it can affect it – I try not to watch animal programes as I just can’t cope with them, give me a horror where humans die and I’m find but bring in animals be it real or fictional being hurt or having issues and I’m done for!
