Things I Will Always Be a Little Bit Childish About

There are some things we’re seemingly expected to grow out of as we get older. Toys get packed away, we stop getting quite so excited about little things and we’re all supposed to become sensible adults with jobs and bills.

I don’t think I ever got that memo.

I still like Disney, LEGO, stickers, blind boxes and all sorts of things that could probably be called childish. But if something makes you happy, why should getting older mean you have to stop enjoying it?

Rainbows, Bubbles and Saying Hello to Animals

If I see a rainbow, I’m going to point it out. There’s been one in the Life in a Break Down logo since the very beginning, so I suppose I’ve always had a thing for them.

Bubbles make me smile too, particularly if there’s an animal involved. Watching a dog trying to catch them and then wondering where they’ve gone when they pop is something I could happily watch for ages.

Actually, animals in general probably belong here. If I see a dog, I’m saying hello to it. Infact I’ll happily talk to pretty much any animal I come across.

It would be nice if one answered eventually.

Winnie the Pooh Will Always Be KING

Nobody who knows me will be surprised by this one.

I’ve loved Winnie the Pooh for as long as I can remember and that’s not changing anytime soon. Put Winnie the Pooh on something and there’s a good chance I’m going to want it, no matter if I need it or not.

I’m easily won over by cute characters and packaging in general, if I’m being truthful.

And while Pooh will always be king, King George from Hoppers has definitely become another favourite recently.

Blind Boxes, LEGO and Stickers

There is a right way to open a blind box.

You look at all the possible characters, decide which one you want and then try to wish that particular one into the box.

Then it’s rip time!

If there’s a card inside showing which figure you’ve got, you cannot look at it first. You have to find the actual figure or you’ve ruined the surprise.

I’m well aware that wishing for Winnie the Pooh isn’t going to make him magically appear, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop trying.

LEGO is another childhood favourite I’ve come back to. My hands aren’t great, so I stick to easier builds like BrickHeadz and some of the smaller Botanicals. I get to enjoy building them and then have even more things to put around the house.

The only problem is when a piece goes missing. That’s a disaster until someone finds it on the floor, or down the side of the sofa.

Then there are stickers.

I have a sticker book because I don’t like permanently sticking my favourites somewhere. If one is going on my wheelchair or computer, I really need a duplicate.

One to use and one to keep. That’s just how it works.

And Then There’s Everything Else…

Dinosaurs are still cool. I don’t think I have a favourite, I just like dinosaurs in general. I do have a particular soft spot for the little blue dinosaur emoji though. 🦕

I still like an advent calendar, especially a crystal one. There’s something nice about having a little thing to open each day. I also enjoy making stockings for people and finding little bits I think they’ll like.

Plushies are incredibly difficult to resist, cute packaging has definitely convinced me to buy things I didn’t need, and ice cream and ice lollies will always make me happy. At the moment, I’m rather fond of the M&S almond sticks.

I’m sure there are plenty of other things I’ve forgotten too.

I don’t think growing up has to mean growing out of everything.

I can be an adult and still own a sticker book, build LEGO, talk to random dogs and try to wish Winnie the Pooh into a blind box.

I’m quite happy with that.
