October 13 – Life in a Lockdown #28
So it is October 13th – unlucky for some? Hopefully, it is a good day all around for everyone.
Just a quick heads up I’ve changed the questions (yes again). This is something I will probably do every month or so, as it comes to a point where some questions I feel like we are giving the same answer over and over. So why not switch it up a bit!
Starting off I must say a huge thank you to Bex from Futures for joining me each week as my co-host and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part, it’s simple:
We ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, as hosts of the linkup and you can copy the questions below.
After that; all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and add your link in the inlinkz.
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from as mall business.
6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?

So what did week 28 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
Pretty badly at the moment, it will probably sound really silly to most people but I had to spend last week getting up at 7 am each day and it played havoc with my ME. By Thursday I was struggling to cope.
However, the builders were amazing and did a great job. All my fears about how they would be and if they would cause us issues were unfounded. They even put our cupboards and new blinds back up.
I think I’m going to spend most of this week in bed. It really is something I hate not being able to regain energy and cope with pretty normal situations.
The fact rates are rising across the UK is pretty much something I’m trying to not think about, however, it is happening and we can’t avoid that.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
Not a lot – having the bathroom changed to a wetroom.
I was pretty amazed they did it all in 5 days! It is such a change and I can see it making a huge difference to me when I am over it being done.
Of course, it is nothing fancy as it was done by the landlord. However it’s a wetroom, it is usable and it’s ours.
3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
Honestly, this is something that worries me a lot. I just about made it through the first lockdown with my mental health, I am unsure how I will cope with another one.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand the necessity for them, I know Ash and my parents and even myself are higher than average risk.
However, my mental health doesn’t get that and I feel like I am really walking on knifepoint where I could go over the edge so easily soon enough.
4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
Never take seeing people for granted again. Never take just being able to go out and grab a bite to eat, or just your shopping with ease and without worry as something you can always do.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
I got my first crystal subscription from Grounded Goddess. I absolutely love crystals so it was so much to find one which offers just crystals.

Personally, I really liked the range that was included, the fact it was easy to identify each one with the information included was a huge plus.
I’ve been thinking about getting a worry stone for a while, so it was good to see one included. I’m definitely finding that having different things to use as fidget items is helping when needed, so this is a new one to add to the collection.
6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
To be honest, writing these posts has helped me, it has given me somewhere to share my feelings and with peoples replies, it has helped me realise I am not alone in how I am feeling and coping.
7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
I used to play the violin, I was actually OK at it. I stopped when I went into hospital in my teens and never took it back up.
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Honestly Ash, so very much. He has had to look after me more than normal with all the work going on and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

A huge thank you as always to everyone who linked up with us last week.

I’ve definitely seen a change in my mood the past few weeks. I think with the possibility of another lockdown and the change in the weather it’s really playing with my MH.
I’m glad to hear your wetroom went well! And that it was done so quickly. This time has really made us step back and appreciate the little things.
Thank you. The change in weather I think effects so many people, I’m not looking forward to the clocks changing I know the darkness and my issues with coping with it will hit then.
I am so sorry that you are finding things a bit rubbish at the moment, sending big hugs your way! Yay for the wetroom though, thats amazing that they got it all done it 5 days! I think that not taking anything for granted is something so many of us will take away from this which is definitely a good thing I think! x
Thank you so much and back at you as well. I know I can’t believe how quickly it was done I thought it would take weeks!
Yes Life in a lockdown is difficult, W e started in person school nowdays. Life is not getting easy.
I hope school goes OK for you and things don’t get worse.
Glad you managed to get the wet room sorted. Sending big hugs, it’s not easy just now, be kind to yourself. Take carex
Thank you – I definitely need to put my feet up for a bit now lol.
I’m really worried about how my mental health may change in coming weeks and months too. It’s such an unsettling time for us all.
I am the same, I have done “OK” so far but I think having my support taken away again won’t end well.
Most awful year ever I don’t think we will ever forget 2020 it’s not surprising mental health problems have soared. I love those gems. Hope you feel better soon x
I think it is one we will definitely all talk about for a long time to come isn’t it?
What a weird year! I only hope it will end soon and things will get better next year!
Definitely – thought I do wonder if this will last for at least a year or so to come.
The lockdowns have definitely been challenging mentally. I would love to do a crystal subscription like that. Little things to enjoy that help you get through are important.
Definitely, it’s nice to have the odd pick-me-up. I am really hoping we don’t go into lockdown again now sure I would manage.
I agree, I used to never think twice about heading out for a coffee, shopping or meeting friends but now these things which seemed normal is such a privilege now. I do want things to get back to how it once was
It is strange isn’t it – we really do take so much for granted in the world around us.
Well Done! Hopefully life will be a bit easier for you :- Now that the wet room has been installed.
Yes, sadly some disabled people have to bear with the inconvenience of installation work whilst living within the home / house/ property. Sometimes it can be elderly disabled person / people.
When it is only bathroom / toilet, yes an inconvenience. Know people who have been in that situation. Whereas when wet room is secondary to bathroom / toilet:- Alternative available whilst work is being carried out within the home. This was the situation for a friend when an old pantry area downstairs was converted into a wet room for her disabled Dad.
Yes, I would say:- Enjoy the ‘Peace and Quiet’ now that the works are completed. Luckily the staff / workmen tend to be good at clearing up each day. Possibly taking into account circumstances of resident :- Disability. As well as Health and Safety regulations.
They were very good and if we wouldn’t be able to go in for a while they made sure to check in if we needed the loo first (though I will be honest and we did worry we would need to go before we could go in at times). It’s nice now it is done and has made a large difference already.
I’ve been dealing with a flare, it always seems to happen when the weather changes.
I am so sorry you’re having a flare, the weather does similar to me and the headaches it can bring.
Enjoy the updated bathroom!
Thank you so much 🙂 I definitely will.
One way to cure lockdown ailments is to get in your car and take a drive.
Yes! I did this when we were on a stricter lockdown I would drive to my parents and wave them from the car.
Thanks for sharing this! I enjoyed reading your lifestyle! I also play a violin before but I quit coz’ idk, it’s not my thing I guess.
It’s an interesting choice to play haha! I don’t think I would go back to it, though I did enjoy the more practical side of learning about music.
Thank you for being so honest. I’m beginning to find the whole thing quite difficult to digest. Although I am back to work, I’m concerned in case I will have to go off again due to lockdown restrictions. It’s the last thing I want to do.
It’s so hard isn’t it – I am really struggling with the idea things are going to worse again and just how much longer I can keep up this weird world without my mental health taking a huge dive.
I also feel exhausted and tired these past few months til today but keep on fighting for my dreams and goals. Hope it applies to everyone who are having a hard time right now
It really is exhausting it just keeps coming at us and I feel like whatever we do be it reopen or close that feeling won’t stop.
I can’t believe I have only just discovered this linky! What a great idea, I’m sorry you’ve struggled whilst having work done to your house but it’s great news that you have a new wetroom. Make sure to take it easy this week. x
Come join in! We’d love to have you.
Thank you so much it was hard going but worth it *fingers crossed*
I totally get the 7am thing, I have ASD and have to have routine, if I have a week when I have to get up early it really messes me up, and I still go to bed the same time so I end up totally exhausted.
I tried to go earlier and I just couldn’t, I wouldn’t fall asleep until “normal” time, even having taken my meds (which knock me out) it’s like they wouldn’t kick in until the right time.
I had to google what a wetroom was but it sounds like a great idea! Enjoy the updated bathroom!
Thank you! Yes, it seems like it perhaps isn’t a term used elsewhere, perhaps I should have stuck to shower room (but a very specific kind).
I agree with the never taking seeing people for granted again. I also totally get what you mean about your mental health – I count myself very lucky to not suffer with my mental health and I found the situation so tough when I’d just moved and couldn’t see my mum or friends and Steve still had to go work 5 days a week so I dread to think what it was like for you. I am so glad that me and you had each other to talk too, I’d have been lost without you xxx
I think it’s affected a lot of people who are normally OK. I’ve had people say to me a lot I don’t normally struggle but my mental health is bad, my anxiety is bad. It really is setting off people who normally cope really well. Snap here – thank you so much for helping me through everything, even when I’m going off my rocker a little 😉 xx
Lockdown now is just a part of life . I’m just thankful that my children can go to school as almost normal
That’s good – I am glad kids are having some sort of normality for themselves, they do deserve it.
That crystal looks pretty. We just do some sort of stuffs these past days. Like redecorating our rooms and cleaning stuffs. Exploring new things. Most importantly is spending a quality time with family. I’m glad that your doing well just hang in there, this pandemic will end soon.
I think a lot of people have been doing some home DIY which is nice and getting to spend time with loved ones much really help.
Writing has always helped me cope. Having a sisterhood like yours is a big win too!
It really does help doesn’t it – I’ve never been a person who can speak about my feelings always has to be via writing.
I’m starting to dip in mood, again,so making task lists to keep busy, and i’ve bought a wellbeing journal
I’m finding the same this past week or so – oh I like the idea of a wellbeing journal.
Sorry to hear that you struggled last week. I hope you’re able to properly rest this week.
Thank you – so far I’ve slept a lot – still feeling exhausted but then it will take me a good few weeks to feel better I’m sure.
One thing this whole pandemic has taught us is that we shouldn’t take anything in our lives for granted. Whilst I love seeing my friends and family, I never really realised how much they meant to me until a few months ago when the lockdown started. And at the beginning when panic buyers were hoarding toilet roll, I came to realise how much I depended on toilet roll and that I have been taking that for granted as well.
I’m a total introvert I hate going out, but I’m honestly missing even the chance to see friends and family and it makes me so sad we won’t see a lot of people this year. Luckily we got down to see the other halves family early in the year on a whim, but it seems like such a long time ago now.
I totally get how hard it must have been getting up at 7am with your ME. I hope you can rest up properly this week x
Thank you it was utterly awful ?. It always sounds so bad saying that, I mean I’ve never been a morning person but it’s a whole different world when you have ME.
I love this. If the pandemic has taught me anything, its to never take anything for granted ever again. hang in there!
It’s amazing isn’t it just how much we do take for granted without realising it.
What is a wetroom? I have never heard of that before. Is it like a shower room?
That’s cool that you used to play the violin. I used the play the piano and then I just stopped.
Yes, it’s like a shower room. It’s basically an open shower rather than being closed off, so you can get a wheelchair in if need be. Ours does have some doors to stop the water spreading everywhere but they are only waist height then curtains around. So I guess the main difference over here is that a shower room has more of an inclosure around the shower, whereas a wet room is very open.
I didn’t realize you used to play the violin! I agree-one thing I will not take for granted in the future is things like being in contact with people and not having to stand, masked, 6 feet apart.
I really wanted to play the piano but I think that had filled up so I took on the violin instead I played it for probably 10 years if not more.
So glad you have managed to get the wet room sorted! Sorry to hear you struggled last week, go easy on yourself and hope you are having a better time of it this week! Have to admit that weekly posts are helping me through this too, will certainly be interesting to look back on again in a few years… not that we are going to forget about this anytime soon! Sim x
Thank you – it is so nice it has been done I was really struggling yesterday but was able to just sit under the shower and the water helped in its own way and I just sat and went between crying with happiness and just being amazed at how it helped relax me.
Such a nice post and I look forward to all your anecdotes on how to get through the pandemic. I find cooking my evening meal therapeutic and important when i have my two hungry kids here.
I bet it is nice to come together as a family in the evening and just make sure everyone is doing OK.
Those crystals looks great and worthy to collect. As for me,I bought a lot of organizers lately. I love my room to be minimalist styled lately.
I wish I could do minimal I’m definitely maximum though whoops!
