Saga #GiftToFamily
As people who visit my blog know, my life has been full of ups and downs, I’ve had my issues with my physical and mental health, alongside my previous abusive relationships. However, through it all, I’ve had a whole host of wonderful people who have stuck by me through thick and thin. People I would love to thank for all they have done, yet often don’t have the means to do so.
So when Saga asked me to give back to someone who meant a lot to me as part of their #GiftToFamily campaign and I decided to send my Mum and her friend Denise off on a spa pamper afternoon.
My Mum says I have to apologise for how she looks – she had popped round to take the dog out for a walk and I completely caught her by surprise.
I should also say that a couple of minutes after the video was taken she was bouncing around our living room with excitement, she originally thought, as I was recording this, that I was “pulling her leg”. It was only when my Dad confirmed I had gone through him and Denise to sort it all out behind her back while she had been on holiday, which it finally sunk in.
So why are Saga asking me to give a gift to family?
Well they want to raise awareness for how equity release could help you treat your family (or yourself). Saga’s equity release programme is aimed at those over 55 and involves releasing a portion of the equity tied up in the value of your home, while still allowing you to live there. Of course this isn’t something that would suit everyone and would need a lot of research before anyone decided to make such a move, but if you are looking to make such a move their scheme maybe worth checking out.
Personally I want to say a big thank you to Saga for letting me treat two very special ladies, who by the way had an amazing spa afternoon.
If you could spare some funds to treat anyone special in your life who would it be and how would you tried them?

This is beautiful, a great thing to be able to give back to our parents. This is a great campaign.
What a lovely thing to do for your mom and her friend. Sounds like Saga is going to help you a lot in times of need. It’s definitely one of the options to consider.
A day at the spa is a the perfect gift. There isn’t really any way it could get better, lucky mom!
Giving back to your parents is one of the best things that you can do. I am so glad that you got to do this for your mother!
wow, how awesome of you to do for your mom. I’m going to be sharing this with a few friends. great job.
What a lovely gift to surprise your mum with. Not sure I like the over 55 reference though. That’s not tat far away from me 😉
MY MOM would love this. I would love to do something like this for her.
that is very sweet of you. it is always nice to see other people happy and pampered specially if its your loved ones. you’re amazing for doing this.
Definitely my mom! She has been such a tremendous help for me and my children.
Aww what an amazing gift. It always feel so great to give to those you love, especially mom!
What a great way to celebrate our loved ones with a spa treatment. As for equity release, people should seek professional advice before jumping in.
What a special treat! We looked into equity release for my mother in law to help us move, we didn’t go for it in the end, but it would work for some people in certain situations.
I have a friend who I would probably treat. She looks out for me like a Mum and a best friend would and is always there for me and my kids when I need her. I would probably send her and her daughter somewhere awesome for some quality time x
Sounds crazy but I would treat myself. I think I have worked so hard this year.
This is such a beautiful post. What would we do with the people who are there to support us through thick and thin? I’m impressed with Saga for coming up with such a lovely campaign. I have to check out their equity program.
What a lovely treat to your mum x the #GiftToFamily campaign sounds wonderful! I’d give back to my folks too!
My mom and dad, definitely. It’s time to give back to my parents after all years of love and patience that they gave me.
This is so lovely! I bet you were very tempted to join them. I know I would have been. x
What a lovely gift to your Mum! It’s such a nice surprise. I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and wonderful New Year.
I would treat my sister. She has had an incredibly hard year and managed to take care of her 4 kids, and work towards her masters in nursing. No one deserves it more.
I love spoiling my mom so much! I haven’t taken her to a spa yet though, thanks for the idea though it looks pretty fun
Super sweet! This is an awesome treat. I would love it too. Hope your Mum and her friends has a great time.
My mom, for sure! Just like you did! I have to say, I feel a little bad reading this because I don’t have my mother’s present yet. But this is lovely!! <3

Awwh, what a lovely way to give something back to someone that means so much to you!
Equity release that is something that definitely requires some research before jumping in and how nice of saga to help you treat your mum and friend
Most definitely something that needs a lot of research, not something to take on lightly at all.x
I love this, it is such a great idea and such a nice surprise too, I possibly would have looked shocked if someone wanted to record my reaction x
I would have run the other way screaming I think – she’s a braver lady than me.
Giving back to our parents is so important, great post! I want to take my mum on holiday one day
What an amazing treat for your mum and her friend! I’d love to treat my mum to a spa day too x
What a lovely and thoughtful gift this was. And she looks lovely, she really does.
Aww thank you – I think she always looks beautiful, even when she’s just taken the dog out 😉
Ah Sarah, what a lovely thing to do. I think I’d treat my Mum to a ‘day off’ – someone else to cook the dinner, do the ironing, clean the house etc so she could just put her feet up and relax. Jo x
Now that sounds like a lovely thing to do – Mum’s never seem to stop do they no matter how old the child gets.
That is so nice that you treated them to the spa day, I’d love to do the same to my mum x
Parents give us so much. What a wonderful idea to give back to your mother.
These are so great! Love this gift idea!
This is so great. What a nice gift for her. I would love to gift this to my mother as well.
I’d get my mom a house cleaning at least once a month! It would mean so much to her, and I think totally catch her off guard as well.
Your Mom is so cute. I bet they had a fantastic day at the Spa. I would definitely nominate my Mom.
I got so much excited chatter when they got back bless them it was so nice! x

That is such an amazing treat! An awesome gift for someone you love! I love that Saga has this awareness campaign.
I would definitely give back to my parents as well! I often think about how much they did for me and could never think of how to compensate them properly! I am so grateful for their love and hard work.
I bet the equity release is the answer for many people. We have a dear friend who did it with her home. Sending you the best wishes for an uplifting holiday season!
Giving back to your parents is so important! I love giving back to my mom and dad because they’ve given me their all.
What a great thing to do for your mom. A day at the spa is such a treat. I’m glad she was able to enjoy herself.
Such a lovely thing to do! So glad to hear they had such an amazing time, would love to do something like this for my Mum this Christmas!
You have been through a lot hun, it brought me to tears reading about your abuse and is as you would probably know something I identify with myself. I am so glad that you had such a wonderful support unit and I think it is really kind that you treated them to a nice spa experience x
I was very lucky to be picked by them when I was a baby (though I do wonder sometimes if they were lucky picking me haha) and my Mum’s friend is lovely as well, she’s come to my rescue when my Mum and Dad have been away as well.
That is so wonderful that Saga gave you the opportunity to treat them to that special spa day. I would love to also treat my mom and my husband for being the best supporters of me and my journey, they really deserve it. And your mom is adorable!
Honestly I was so thankful to them – I think it’s one of my favourite things I’ve been able to do via the blog.
I would love to spoil my mom like this! I think our moms deserve to be spoiled. Giving back to your parents is the best way to say thank you I think.
I totally agree – my Mum is such a special person to me and to get to treat her and her friend to a day out (that I found out after they had been dreaming of going on at the exact place I booked them into) was amazing.
Aww, what a beautiful gift to your mum! I think it’s beautiful to be able to give back to those who have been so supportive and tell your mum, I think she looks beautiful x
Aww thank you I will definitely tell her as she was so worried, I thought she looked fine but she’s a worrier. x
I would give to one of my sister’s in law. Her family just relocated to SC in July and her husband got laid off a few weeks ago.
