5 Ways To Update Your Look For The New Year
According to a recent Oxfam Survey, in the UK alone there are 3.6 billion items of clothing sat unworn in wardrobes. The study also said that 48% of the nation admitted they needed to de-stress when it came to clothes. All this information seems to say one thing, it is time for us to de-stress, de-clutter and find a new look for ourselves in the New Year.
Instead of starting the New Year with a wardrobe full of clothes you don’t wear, it might be time for you to try a new look or style. Here are 5 ways to update your look for the New Year and rid yourself of those unworn clothes:
Try A New Colour Scheme In Your Make Up Regime
Winter is in full swing, the weather is cold and your make up regime might be rocking a dark lipstick or eyeshadow. Instead of starting the New Year with Smokey eyes and a dark lip, you can update your whole look by simply updating your make up look.
Add a little colour to your lips and try a nude colour on your eyelids. This can make you look and feel more awake on a night out or during the day.
Brighten Your Smile With Teeth Whitening
Even if you have perfectly straight and well-formed teeth, you may find that your smile is not as bright as it could be. If you have stains on your teeth or they are dis-coloured then you might find that teeth whitening is a great solution.
Whitening your teeth may sound like a drastic measure but this can brighten your smile and really update your look.
London City Smiles offer teeth whitening in London. With a choice of home kits or appointments for dental whitening at the clinic, you can see the results right away depending on the procedure you choose.
De-Clutter Your Wardrobe
Once you have de-cluttered your wardrobe you will really reap the benefits. From more space for new clothes, to a fresh look at your own style, de-cluttering is a great start for updating any look.
Start with the sock draw that is overflowing with odd socks, then move onto the big challenge of choosing which items from your wardrobe you can send to charity. One cruel but worthwhile rule to live by is if you haven’t worn that piece of clothing in the last six months then get rid of it!
Get Out and Get Active!
No matter whether you love to stay active or are a couch potato, give your skin a real glow and feel a lot better about yourself by getting out and getting active.
Try going for a walk each morning no matter what the weather and see the sun rise in a whole different way. You can even join the gym (like most of us will in January) and feel the benefits of working out during the week.
Try A Whole New Look
If all else fails and the new year is looming whilst you still sit in the same outfit you wear every week then it is time to take drastic action. Use this new year as the perfect time to reveal the new you! Out with the old, tatty clothes you have worn far too much and in with your new style no matter what it might be!
Be adventurous. Be bold. But most of all, be weary of tassels, they never look right!

i love the thought of a new look, you have to be brave though
What a great batch of tips
I just decluttered my wardrobe and it feels amazing to have only clothes I love! I plan on being more daring next year, voncerning outfits. Thanks to my blog, I’m getting more and more courageous.
I used to de-clutter every 6 weeks but not done much for the last 4 weeks. Such lovely tips you’ve put together
I recently had a clothing de-clutter and guess what – I now have nothing left to wear he he.
Oh no what a nightmare! Hopefully your get some pennies to spend in the sales this Christmas 😉 x
I have always wanted to get my teeth whitened. My teeth are not straight and I have always wanted to get them fixed but don’t have the money sadly :/
I hate my teeth, they are the bane of my life and the latest issue in my long ‘ld list of issues lol. x
I am planning a big clothing de-clutter in the New Year! I have so many I don’t wear. Kaz x
Good luck! Hopefully it goes really well for you – I had one when we moved and I’ve not brought any since I’m not sure what’s wrong with me lol.x
I have SO many clothes that I do not wear – and never will. I am planning a big de-clutter in teh New Year! Kaz x
As soon it new year day, I’m changing my look by dying my hair either strawberry blonde or bright red. I hasn’t exactly decided yet. You mentioned Oxfam – H&M does something similar and if you hand in your old clothes you get H&M vouchers. That a good way to de-clutter your wardrobe. xx
Oh what an awesome idea from H&M I’ll have to check that out thank you 🙂 x
This post has actually inspired me to get back on bettering my body!!! I need to be more active, I usually go wth the excuse that because I run around the kids all day I’m tried by the end of it so can’t do anything else!! I also really want my teeth whitened but have heard it can hurt a little!!
I think I’ll definitely be de-cluttering in the new year and I have a couple of new fitness classes I’d like to try! xx
I agree that getting active is very important, it’s really easy to do a bit of exercise every day x
Hi Sarah & Happy Christmas! I disagree with your comment re. tassels. I think there’s a time and a place for everything! Hee hee!
