Lichfield Re:Cycle
I’m not sure how many of you who read my blog live nearby by hello to any of you who do and for those who are thinking where on earth is Lichfield, well I’m with you there, having never heard of it till I moved here at 12. However it is cathedral city, situated in Staffordshire – not too far from Birmingham.
One of the great things about Lichfield is its want to help residences in need, there have been times in my life where I have leaned on a number of the services, charities in the area kindly offer.
Earlier this week I was emailed about a local scheme, one I had never heard of before, but has actually been going for a number of years now; Lichfield Re:Cycle.
What is Lichfield Re:Cycle?
Run by a small group of volunteers Lichfield Re:Cycle aims to give unloved bikes a new lease of life and loan them free of charge, for as long as needed, to the people of Lichfield.
The people behind Re:Cycle work on the donated bikes in their own time, in their own gardens or sheds and then do their best to find the perfect bike for those in need. It doesn’t matter why you need to borrow a bike, you could be trying to get the kids to school, get to work yourself or just want to get out and about town more, you can even just be in the area for a short stay you don’t have to live here permanently to take advantage of the scheme.

What a fantastic idea! I run my local Freegle and this is such an awesome idea to implement to it! I am getting this organised asap – we have had most of our buses cancelled (and it is VERY rural) so this would be brilliant!

I actually have a bike sat in the garage not being used, so I’m defo going to look into this scheme. And I’m looking forward to reading more of your blog 🙂

This sounds like a great idea. Kids especially grow out of bikes quickly.
Hats off to your city, actually making a difference to peoples lives. If a person has a need and that need can be filled with an item, somebody does not want or need, its good all round. More cities/towns should take note and pay it forward more often. I have read some of the articles you have written on Lichfield, I’m a tad jealous of the ethos they seem to have for their residents.

What a great idea – I know there’s something similar in Frome but I haven’t seen one in London
Seems like a great idea, I’m sure they must have something like this in London too. I’ll have to check it out. I’d like to start riding but I’d rather hire one and give an old bike some love.
What a great idea! I have two bikes sat here collecting dust as I can’t ride anymore. I shall see if there is an initiative like this in my area. So much better than dumping them on landfill!
