Invest in These 4 Products to Make Your Home Extra Secure
No matter what we do to our homes to tighten security, there will always be a way for burglars to get in and take our goods. However, there’s no reason why we can’t make it much more difficult for them, and even scare them off in the process, with a few cost-effective additions. Securing your home is important not just to keep your family safe, but also to prevent criminals from taking your goods that you’ve worked so hard to gain. If you’re looking for a few extra ways to secure your home, consider the following products that are sure to tighten up security and fend off passers-by.
Outdoor Lighting
You will likely already have some sort of lighting outdoors, but if you don’t, consider investing in some good motion lighting, which will only turn on when it senses someone is walking up the path. You could also consider implementing other random motion sensors in the garden or out by the driveway as that is also an effective way to fend off criminals if they see lights switch on before they get anywhere near your home.
A Simple Security System
There are hundreds of systems on the market that will help secure your home, but there aren’t many that provide a simple solution for a flat fee. Many home security solutions not only require you to pay a huge upfront fee to get the system installed, but you’ll likely have to tie into a contract that could end up costing you thousands. One system that’s becoming popular in homes is the product provided by SimpliSafe. Not only will you be able to secure your home with the latest technology, but you’ll also be able to do that for a flat fee and you can even install the product yourself because it’s that simple.
Warning Stickers
You’re probably wondering how a few warning stickers can help secure your home, and the fact is, it’s not going to be able to physically deny any criminals from entering your home. However, warning stickers can make the difference between a criminal attempting to break into your home and not bothering at all. Even simple stickers that show you have a dog can go a long way towards putting criminals off from entering your property. Physically, stickers aren’t going to do anything to prevent criminals from entering your home but because they’re so affordable, they should always be considered.
Electrical Timers
If you have a home filled with electrical products, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t take advantage of electrical timers. Electrical timers will automatically turn on components in your house when you’re out or on holiday. If a criminal thinks you’re on holiday and is walking up your path to break in and then suddenly one of your bedroom lights turns on or the television downstairs is showing a live NFL game, it will likely make them think twice when they think there’s someone watching the house for you. Electrical timers can be set for different days and times so it will always look like someone is in your home, which is the perfect solution if you’re away for the weekend.
Ultimately, you may not be able to fool any criminals with the above additions. However, by implementing them, you can be sure you’re going to have a good chance of doing so. There are many other products and tools you can buy to prevent criminals from entering your home. You may even consider not leaving windows open, avoiding putting spare keys under the mat for emergencies, and always investing in quality locks to secure your garage and shed.

I know that a dog, even a small one can be a good safety measure. Hard to say what’s behind a door. Although I wonder whether my dog would attack or lick the stranger to death. Still trying to figure out that one. 🙂
These are great tips, I’d never thought of a dog sign but that’s a really good idea! Being burgled is one of my worse fears, I think it’s the thought of a stranger being in my house.
Home security is so important, the idea of an intruder in my space just makes me all sorts of uncomfortable.
Thanks for letting me know about these products. I know times are getting more dangerous and these tools will be handy.
These are great tips, I will definitely be using them when I have my own house one day 🙂
Living in an apartment I always ensure to lock my doors even when I am home and normally windows too.
I love the idea of timers. Right now, when we’re gone, I ask neighbor to turn some lights on/off when she stops by to check on the cats. It would be so handy to have it all automated!
The outdoor lighting is definitely key and very budget-friendly. Your other suggestions are very effective as well is a great idea for any homeowner.
Sadly, we don’t have any of these things around our home. We do have an electronic dead bolt lock though. That helps me feel safer at night.
I love these ideas! When I was growing up, we had a few breakins and we were told by the police to stick a few stickers around and set up a fake “siren” box to deter robbers. It worked!
We live in the middle of the woods and no one can find our house. That both makes me feel safe, and also doesn’t! We are getting a new security system this week.
Oh wow I bet that is an amazing place to live how cool.
I would love to get that electrical timers, it something that we can definitely use when we go for vacation.
They are great we used to have one on our porch light was brilliant when coming home after dark as well.
Love these tips. We have a security system and outdoor lightening. And it definitely makes me safer when I’m in the house on my own x
I need to get a new light outside I have to admit, we don’t have on here and it feels so much better when we did.
Thank you for sharing! I generally leave the security tips to the other half.
Some good tips here. I think it’s really important to invest in good security
It really makes a difference, we are lucky as we have a shared drive so the neighbours cctv picks up a lot of the front.
My husband wants to add security camera to our property. I’m just not on board as of yet, but considering it.
It is a good idea I think 🙂 you never know what you might pick up.
We have outdoor lighting, and I also invested in a Canary, which connects to my phone so I can keep an eye on the house when I’m out. It’s amazing and I don’t think I’d feel safe without it at the moment as so many houses on my street have been burgled recently.

Oh gosh it is awful when homes around you are being targeted it make sure you feel so insecure.
These are great tips! We were robbed of pretty much everything of value before we moved south and made the mistake of getting ADT which forced us into a contract -_- Good to know that there are other friendlier options!
Oh my goodness you poor things! I can’t imagine how it feels to have it happen to you.
Yup, we do most of these! We got extra outdoor lighting and we do have a security system. Plus the stickers, though I don’t think those really ward people off. But still, just in case!
I think any little thing you can do just in case it worth it.
The most important thing these days is security. This is I think something worth the investment. Great post!
It really is important isn’t it, it’s a shame the world has become somewhere we need to be so security conscious though.
I agree on this post. I’d rather spent some money to buy for some home security products that be sorry and reactive when something bad happens at home due to lack of some security in the house.
I am so with you on that, it is so much better to be prepared.
Such great tips, we had a nasty break in a few years ago, it was awful, since then our home is very secure. We also have a camera outside now that every time it picks up movement you hear ‘warning you are being recorded on a security camera’ it really catches people out and often see people looking around, at night it just lights up which is very handy when coming in when dark as well. We also have two dogs, one of which will bark at the slightest noise x
Oh gosh I am so sorry you had to go through a breakin. I would jump if I heard that I think but it sounds like a good deterrent.
Our home is clear of any large plants or shrubs for people to hide in. Lighting is good but we have been talking about putting in security cameras and not just security that goes off when someone is trying to break in.
Good luck if you go for it, my neighbors has a good set up high is always running, as he had a nasty breakin.
I keep all my shrubs and plants trimmed back so that there’s no place to hide outside my home. Plus, whenever we’re away, I have my mail held at the local post office so that it doesn’t look like we’re not home.
That is such a good idea, we have our neighbour pop in so we don’t have the build up.
I need to purchase some more electrical timers -better to be safe than sorry
Most definitely being prepared is the best place to be.
