No matter what we do to our homes to tighten security, there will always be a way for burglars to get in and take our goods. Great tips. We have lights on timer and I really think we should invest in a proper security system. We were burgled a few years ago and I wouldn’t want that to happen again.
When i move house i’m definitely getting proper security. Being just myself & my autistic son, i can get quite nervous without it.
Ive heard burglers can take glass panes out, but no one ever mentions this are comes up with any ideas on it.
We have extra lights and a security system for protection.

I have all of these things except warning sticks. I think warning stickers are a good signal to any potential criminal their own risk on intruding

My house has to be extra secure as it is set away from other houses. Handy i was a Carpenter n Joiner for 32 years before being disabled. A lot of people do not know but the most common place for burglars to break in is through the front door jjx

It is always a surprise to people that warning stickers (such a simple thing) can make a huge difference. If you have two identical houses, one with stickers and one without…. the burglars go for the easy option.
I work for the local police force and sometimes the easy options (stickers and timers) are the things that deter the bad guys x

I am lucky to live in a small flats building with good security due to the business offices in the same courtyard. I am away from home quite a lot and security always concerns me.

Outdoor lighting for me is a must. I also have motion sensitive lights around the yard. I like the idea of the electrical timers, but since we don’t go out on vacations much, I think I’d rather invest in good locks for all our doors.

I know that a dog, even a small one can be a good safety measure. Hard to say what’s behind a door. Although I wonder whether my dog would attack or lick the stranger to death. Still trying to figure out that one. 🙂
These are great tips, I’d never thought of a dog sign but that’s a really good idea! Being burgled is one of my worse fears, I think it’s the thought of a stranger being in my house.

Living in an apartment I always ensure to lock my doors even when I am home and normally windows too.
I love the idea of timers. Right now, when we’re gone, I ask neighbor to turn some lights on/off when she stops by to check on the cats. It would be so handy to have it all automated!
The outdoor lighting is definitely key and very budget-friendly. Your other suggestions are very effective as well is a great idea for any homeowner.
Sadly, we don’t have any of these things around our home. We do have an electronic dead bolt lock though. That helps me feel safer at night.
I love these ideas! When I was growing up, we had a few breakins and we were told by the police to stick a few stickers around and set up a fake “siren” box to deter robbers. It worked!

It really makes a difference, we are lucky as we have a shared drive so the neighbours cctv picks up a lot of the front.
My husband wants to add security camera to our property. I’m just not on board as of yet, but considering it.

We have outdoor lighting, and I also invested in a Canary, which connects to my phone so I can keep an eye on the house when I’m out. It’s amazing and I don’t think I’d feel safe without it at the moment as so many houses on my street have been burgled recently.

Yup, we do most of these! We got extra outdoor lighting and we do have a security system. Plus the stickers, though I don’t think those really ward people off. But still, just in case!

Such great tips, we had a nasty break in a few years ago, it was awful, since then our home is very secure. We also have a camera outside now that every time it picks up movement you hear ‘warning you are being recorded on a security camera’ it really catches people out and often see people looking around, at night it just lights up which is very handy when coming in when dark as well. We also have two dogs, one of which will bark at the slightest noise x

Our home is clear of any large plants or shrubs for people to hide in. Lighting is good but we have been talking about putting in security cameras and not just security that goes off when someone is trying to break in.

I keep all my shrubs and plants trimmed back so that there’s no place to hide outside my home. Plus, whenever we’re away, I have my mail held at the local post office so that it doesn’t look like we’re not home.
