How to Take Care of Your State of Mind?
Today I hand my blog over to one of my favourite bloggers Olivia from Dungarees and Donuts, who is here to talk about some ways to take care of your state of mind.

Most of us tend to take a blind eye to our own bodies, we refuse to accept when our body is telling us to slow down… until we burn out completely. I am guilty of this as much as the next person, the majority of us would seek help if our bodies were hurting for an unknown reason, but the same doesn’t apply to the mind. A lot of people ashamed to talk about their mental health and feel bad for talking about it, but one of the first steps towards taking care of your mind is talking about the problems you’re struggling with. Not as easy as it sounds, am I right?
It’s often a case of everyone else going through something worse, so my problems are irrelevant, I can confirm this is untrue. Something on your mind is worth talking about, why keep it inside?

How to take care of your state of mind?
Learn your triggers:
We aren’t always aware of what sets us off on an emotional downfall, however, it’s important to try to figure it out so you can avoid it. Even if it sounds silly to somebody else, if it’s upsetting for you, it’s ok to avoid it. Whether it’s a genre of film, an event that has happened or just when you get worn out. Write down every time you feel unwell and try to find out if a pattern occurs. If you know what your triggers are, write them down in a list so you can refer back to them when you’re struggling and share them with a friend or family member.
Take time out:
A lot of us underestimate how important relaxation time is when you feel tired and run down do something nice for yourself. If you want to watch some of a new Netflix series whilst on the sofa with a blanket, do it for yourself. If you don’t want to cook after a long day treat yourself to take out. Fancy a chilled Sunday of reading, you deserve it. It’s about believing in that positive mentality and doing what you deserve. Also, don’t forget that any kind of workout or physical activity is good for your body and mind. While checking out some inspirational quotes at “MemesBams” will help give you a positive spin on the day.
Confront the situation:
We spend a lot of time avoiding the inevitable. Looking after your state of mind isn’t just about preservation, but it’s about realising what is eating away at you and confronting it head-on. Whether it’s an over-reliance on something like alcohol for you are running away from an emotional stressor, you can find the alcohol detox best choices or counselling options to help you look the problem square in the eye. Confronting the situation also improves your resilience. As stressful as it can be to get into a challenging situation, overcoming these problems can do wonders for our frame of mind because we’ve done something for ourselves.

Open up to others:
When struggling a lot of us find it hard to tell someone about it. Holding bad feelings inside can often cause our problems to feel worse. Speaking to somebody else about a problem can help get a new perspective on the situation. Whether you’re worried about a job interview, having problems at home or something else, talking can almost always help. If you’re worried it’s something more serious, speak to your doctor, they can often provide you with some form of support.
Thanks for reading and I hope you’ve found this post somewhat useful and remember, you’re number one and deserve only the best.

As mothers, we’ve conditioned ourselves to always put the family’s needs before ours.
I take time off every day to meditate, pray and practice mindfulness.
I think you have to take time out, to give yourself time, i have found that hard to do in the past, but now i make myself do it, if not i would go crazy, alot is happening in my life and i find it hard to cope with, so now i step back, i dont talk to friends as im embarrassed with most things,
great tips, i love to take time out to keep my state of mind good
What a wonderful write up, a few years a go i burnt out, got myself in a right mess, i stepped back and took out some me time and i think that’s what people should do, i know in this day and age, that can be hard, but try i went to a few yoga classes, wasnt for me, but they did help with me with their advice to just sit and let my mind travel.
An incredibly sensitive and sensible post. I particularly like the first suggestion of writing things down to see if there is a pattern.
I have been doing pilates for my back to strength the core muscles. Its surprising how much more relaxed it makes you especially whilst exercising ,definitely good for your state of mind
‘believing in that positive mentality and doing what you deserve’ – this part took me a long time to get to grips with but now I’ve cracked it, oh boy I appreciate and embrace ‘Timeout’ now. We do deserve it ladies + gents…
There is nothing more important than our mental health. Thanks for the tips
I agree I have a habit of not acknowledging what my body is trying to tell me! I am going to try and follow this advice and make more time to relax, instead of always being on the go!
I would definitely agree with taking the time to assess what triggers you. This will help you identify potential causes and do soething about it.
I have autism with associated depression and anxiety and can find it really difficult to switch off, learning my triggers before I hit meltdown has been really important, and I just literally have to have a time out like a child if it all gets too much.
We really need to have more awareness of each other and appreciate that sometimes we just need to slow down and take perspective once in a while.
Opening up to others I find very helpful. While issues with a person should be addressed with that person, keeping things bottled up inside can do more harm than good.
I find that I have the hardest time taking time for me. I’m always worried about the family or work, and I know that’s weighing me down more
I love the idea of the timeout, I do feel I need a break for adulting sometimes
These are very useful tips! Our mental health is very important, and I think taking some time off from routine can be really helpful.
I think this is so important too. Sometimes we all just need to take a break and slow down. I can be guilty of not taking it slow sometimes. It’s nice to have a break once in a while though.
I am guilty of that too. It’s just hard to slow down when you have so many responsibilities.
Your suggestion makes a lot of sense. Whatever you are doing sometimes you got to take a break. Having great state of mind leads to amazing achievements.
I have been trying to take time out for myself, for self-care. It’s super important.
I make sure to take a time out – have my ME time and just chill. Mental health is as important as physical health.
Some great tips here. I know exactly what you mean on this one, I find I burn out and can feel the pressure xx
I agree with all these tips, sometimes we need to have time to take care of ourselves.
This is so helpful. Last year I became very overwhelmed with everything, before crashing and burning over the festive period. I vowed to find a better balance this year and on the whole, I am doing better, however, I need to learn to say no more often as I leave myself very tired and rundown
Great post I ‘ve suffered with Generalised Anxiety Disorder for lots of years and lots of the physical symptoms which are totally horrid . There’s never a cure only medication and I can’t get therapy so I have to do things my own way Relaxation exercises and breathing techniques plus keeping my mind occupied is helpful
Great tips. I have learned that I need to slow down. My arthritis always flares when I am stressed or tired
I try to take some time out every single day just for me. Whether that’s reading a book, or watching part of a netflix episode. Just anything which is for me x
I really love this blog. It’s wonderfully informative and will surely help most of us a lot!
This is some really good advice! I’ve given myself permission to take more time to relax this summer and it feels great.
I so agree with everything you said! If we had only talked about this 20 or so years ago!
I feel burned out all the time and know I do way to much. I really need to take care of myself better. Thanks for sharing this post.
Self-care and taking care of your mind is very important. I’ve learned the hard lessons of neglecting my own mental health and it wasn’t pretty. I was so depressed around Christmas but things are looking up. Of course, it took a change of circumstances to realize how bad things were before I started worrying about myself.
Great tips here. I have struggled with my mental health my whole life and although I have regular therapy, I struggle to help myself without that extra support from others.
I burn out really easily and love nothing more than switching my mind off in the evening.
Fantastic post with lots of helpful tips. It is so important to look after ourselves especially our mental health. I’ve always struggled with being open with others especially when struggling mentally but over the years I’ve realised how important it is to talk to others.
I learned as a caregiver just how important this is. In today’s society, there are so many things dictating our state of minds we really need to be extra vigilant.
So very important. I’ve been battling anorexia since 2015. I’ve learnt over the years that I have to look after me & my wellbeing. I have relaxation time every day and practice mindfulness. Thanks x
Fantastic post! Prioritizing your mental health is extremely important. I have been in therapy for over a year now and it’s made an amazing difference in my life.
This is so important to do! I make sure I always take breaks so I don’t go nuts. I love to read so I make sure I can do that on a daily basis.
