Guilt-Free Takeaway Recipes
Have you got a hankering for some tasty takeaway treats but are trying to keep an eye on your diet? Well, the good news is that you don’t have to deprive yourself of your Friday night favourites in order to stay healthy.

Fish and Chips
Nothing says quintessential British food quite like fish and chips. Luckily for chip shop lovers trying to curb their penchant for deep fat delights, our healthy fish and chips option will satisfy your cravings without forcing you to loosen your belt.
Ingredients
2 tbsp butter
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 tbsp olive oil
1 cup of breadcrumbs
Lemon pepper seasoning
4 x 150g white fish cutlet (swordfish or perch)
3 tbsp olive oil
750g potatoes
Lime
Fresh parsley
Method
- Place butter, eggs and oil into a mixing bowl and beat well
- Transfer to a shallow dish; add breadcrumbs to a separate dish before seasoning them with lemon pepper
- Dip your fish into the egg mix and then coat them evenly in the breadcrumbs
- Cut potatoes into chip shapes before parboiling for 5 mins
- Bake fish in oven preheated to 200 degree (gas mark 7) on an oiled tray for 20-25 mins, turning after 10 mins
- Place chips on the top shelf of oven for 15 mins, turning after 10 mins
- Serve with lime wedge and parsley
Healthy KFC
KFC’s secret blend of 11 eleven herbs and spices are amazing on the palate, yet not so forgiving on the waistline. Fear not though, you can still get your Kentucky fried fix with our healthy KFC alternative that’s still finger lickin’ good.
Ingredients
1 large chicken breast
1 egg
2 slices of whole wheat bread
Pinch of salt and pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp mustard powder
2 tsp smoked paprika
2 tsp dried thyme
2 tsp dried Organic Oregano
1 tsp ground ginger
Method
- Turn bread into breadcrumbs using a food processor and then put in large bowl amongst all the herbs and spices
- Cut the chicken breast in half
- Beat the egg in a bowl, dip the chicken into this bowl and then the one containing with the seasoned breadcrumbs until it is completely covered
- Place on a baking tray before cooking in a pre-heated oven on 220 degrees (gas mark 7) for 45 minutes
Super Healthy Pizza
Did anyone order a pizza? No, not in this house.
That’s because, with just a little effort on your part, you can create delicious, yet super healthy pizzas your family will love.
Ingredients
1/2 cup marinara sauce
Store bought pizza dough
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
1/2 cup cooked chopped onion
1/2 cup crumbled feta
8 ounces medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 tbsp chopped fresh oregano
Method
- Apply the marinara sauce to your dough mix
- Top with cooked chopped onion, crumbled feta, shrimp and tomatoes
- Bake at 230 degrees (gas mark 7) for 15 mins
- Sprinkle with chopped oregano and serve
Veggie Egg Fried Rice
A Chinese takeaway is a weekend staple for many. If you still want to enjoy a taste of the orient but without feelings pangs of regret, our vegetarian egg fried rice option is right up your street.
Ingredients
1 tbsp sunflower oil
1 tsp garlic
Chopped peppers
Handful of broccoli florets
140g cooked rice
Soy sauce
- Method
Use a wok to heat oil in a pan on a high heat - Add garlic puree and stir briefly
- Chuck in the peppers and broccoli and stir-fry for 3 mins
- Add the rice before stir-frying again for a further 4 mins
- Construct a well in the centre of the rice before adding in your egg. Cook for 1 min before mixing the egg into the rice
- Season as you desire and add a drizzle of soy before serving
