December 22 – Life in a Lockdown #38
I don’t know how to start this post.
It’s less than a week before Christmas and the whole of England and the UK has been sent into a mix of shock, confusion and utter despair.
Tier 4 has been bought in for London and much of the South-East, which means bar support bubbles there is no mixing at all over Christmas. Many people have presents which can no longer be delivered, food which won’t be eaten, or no food at all as they expected to go to loved ones.
Those outside tier 4 have been told no more 5 days relaxing of rules. Now it is Christmas day only and seeing a max of 2 other households.
Wales, Scotland and NI all have different rules. It’s quite confusing and a nightmare I am sure for anyone who has family in different parts of the UK. Scotland, for instance, is going back into lockdown on Boxing Day, while all of Wales has gone into a level 4 lockdown already.
Why has it happened? Well, a new strain of CV-19 has popped up and this one is more contagious so cases have gone up.
On With The Linky!
Starting off I must say a huge thank you to Bex from Futures for joining me each week as my co-host and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part, it’s simple:
We ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, as hosts of the linkup and you can copy the questions below.
After that; all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and add your link in the inlinkz.
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from as mall business.
6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?

So what did week 38 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
I’m a little numb at the moment, we are in tier 3 and my parents are our support bubble (Ash’s parents don’t live nearby) so we don’t have much change.
However, friends and family have gone into tier 4 and I know that many are struggling with this happening. Especially after the promise of a Christmas which meant we could see and sharing with more people.
I have had a lot longer to come to terms with the fact we won’t head to Ash’s parents for New Year and as such won’t see my birth family either. Something which keeps me going at a time I really struggle. Which I guess helps, however, going into this period every year I wonder how I will manage.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
Nothing much, I fell over while we were looking at some Christmas lights, right in the mud and have been in a lot of pain since.
However, we did pop to The Bank, to pick up a hamper for my parents for Christmas. It was full of lovely local goodies and they have already started tucking into it.
The books they were selling had at that point raised over £100, with still more to sell – so fingers crossed a bit might be raised for the refuge.
3) What do you think the coming weeks and months might hold for you (or the world)?
I’m trying to take one day at a time right now. It’s how I normally cope with the holidays and this year is needed more than ever I think.
Injections are starting to be passed out to the over 80s, Ash and my parents will be 2 groups time, I am unsure about myself. It will be interesting to hear.
4) If you could remind yourself something about this time in years to come what would it be?
Right now I don’t know, I feel pretty lost with everything, I worry for small businesses, I worry for peoples mental health.
I guess right now I’m just full of worry.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
Some Christmas decorations arrived from Zombunny Designs (affiliate), which are pretty apt right now.

I feel like I have started a bit of a mini plague doctor collection this year. However, could a year be more apt for it.
6) What is a unique (or not) technique you have used to get you through this time?
Talk, always make sure you talk. No matter if it’s in person, via messenger or the phone, it can mean a lot to someone just to hear from someone.
7) What is something your readers might not know about you?
I didn’t learn to drive until my mid-twenties and it took me a number of tries to pass my test.
When I’m in exams my anxiety kicks in and I do silly things, in the end, I passed by thinking I had failed so it didn’t matter anymore. Which helped me relax enough to just drive.
8) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Chocolate – lots of chocolate – yum.

I’m in Yorkshire (Tier 3), I never thought that we would still be fighting Covid in December when it first started. I pray that 2021 sees the ned of this horrible time
It is crazy isn’t it – I think it’s a good job we didn’t know how long it would go on for when it first started.
It is so hard for everyone at the moment. Christmas is always hard for me since my daughter died, my life is devoted to my other daughter and my grandkids, if I cannot see them it takes away my lifeline, my reason to live. We are not all in the same boat as some are in yachts, some merely clinging on to a bit of driftwood, but we are all in the same storm. So be kind everyone, sometimes just one little drop can sink the boat. Big hugs to all xxx
Definitely, it is so hard – I can’t imagine how it is going to be for some people this year and I find Christmas hard at the best of times.
I’m in Kent, so Tier 4. Who would have thought, that, when you started these Life In lockdown # posts we’d ever get to #38?
When this is all over we need a huge party, similar to when we won the war, to celebrate getting through it, but also, to remember those who didn’t.
Honestly, I thought we would do a couple of weeks and that would be it. I am so sorry you’re spending Christmas in tier 4.
Definitely, I think that would be incredible I think we will all need it to.
