Create your own Shoes with Made in Me: Review
It isn’t much of a secret that I love shoes. However, I often find it hard to get flats that are just a little bit different, as well as being well fitted. So when Made in Me got in touch and asked if I would like to try out their custom made shoes, made to your own design, who was I to say no?
To try out the whole process of designing shoes with them Made in Me, sent me a gift voucher covering enough to buy the basic design and accessories, anything over this I had to pay for myself.
What is the Made in Me design process like?
The design process is pretty simple, you just need to head over to their website, choose the style of shoe you would like to design and then get playing with the design programme inbuilt into the website.
I personally went for a design I felt I could wear every day, a soft black leather rounded toe ballet shoe, with black sole, silver leopard fantasy back (this is a premium add on) and a smoked nickel toe plate.
There are of course other options you can choose, such as adding on straps alongside a number of different back and toe adornments and the website simply and easily walks you through each step.
How about the sizing?
To help you make sure you should be ordering the correct size shoes, there is a size guide on the Made in Me website, which includes instructions on how to measure your feet to help you get the perfect fit. Now I did follow the guide and I did measure my feet, but sadly my first pair of shoes didn’t fit me..
This left me a bit worried as often if you have something custom made, you cannot return. However, this isn’t a worry with Made in Me, they are happy to swap your shoes, should there be a sizing error, or even refund you should some other issues come to light.
How long does the process take?
Your personal design process can be as quick or as long as you want, if you don’t have much time to put a pair together they have some readymade designs you can play with, or you can spend hours changing your mind on what really is your perfect combination.
Once you have placed your order, your design is sent to be made by Spanish Artisans, at this point, for normal shipping; you are looking at around 4 – 5 week wait for them to arrive with you. If you need your shoes quicker there is the option to pay more for quicker shipping.
What is the quality like?
Personally I can’t see anything wrong with these shoes, they seems like they will hold up to being used long term, there are no loose threads and there is most definitely nothing that screams “cheap”.
That said I do feel the fact you are designing your own shoes is where a lot of the cost goes, as there isn’t anything extra special about quality of the shoes. They are to me, just a good pair of shoes, which if you bought pre-made would be of average price.
Overall thoughts on Made in Me.
Personally I love the idea of having designed your own shoes, it isn’t something I would do for day to day wear, however I would certainly think about having another pair made for a special occasion.
I found the whole process easy to follow and I like the fact you can treat people to giftcard’s as well as being able to design your own.

I had never heard of this before! I guess it would be handy if you wanted shoes that exactly paired with a special outfit!
I used to work as a shoe fitter for both kids and adults and this kind of thing would have saved me a lot of hair pulling back then! If only eh.
I would love to design my own but I think it would have to be a special occasion with some birthday money or something. I wonder if you can put pictures of cats on?

These are lovely – I think this is a fab idea! Not least as I’m an awkwards size. I bet they’re terrifically comfy too.

This is such a brilliant idea! When my brother got married, my mom went to like 100 stores looking for the right pair of shoes to go with her dress (which also took 100 trips to pick out). This would have made life SO much easier!

This is neat idea, I have not heard of this before, but could see having this done for a pair of shoes I would wear all the time, that go with almost everything, to be sure I got good use from them.
