The Best Beauty Hacks for Winter
Someone posted about it only being 4 months until Christmas the other day and I have to admit that panicked me a little, how is 2017 going by so quickly? While it is still summer (just), the way this year is flying by we will soon find the colder months knocking on our doors. So to make sure you are ready, I’ve come up with some of the best beauty hacks for winter that you just need to know.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise.
During the colder months, your skin will likely become dryer, so it needs all the hydration opportunities it can take. With that in mind, it is worth upping your moisturiser game. For instance, you could swap cream for an oil, as they are less heavy and less likely to clog your pores.
If you are suffering from dry hands or feet, then think about moisturising and covering with a pair of cotton gloves and socks. I’ve found the best way to do this is to slather the area in a nice thick cream and pop on a pair of gloves and socks right before bed, giving the cream as much time as possible to work its magic.
When it comes to your face, making sure you use a good hydrating serum can make all the difference. There are ideas that damp skin can actually absorb your moisturiser better, so don’t be afraid to put one on after the other. Also using a few drops before your favourite sheet mask can help with hydration, so don’t be afraid to play around with your products and find what routine works best for you.
Don’t forget to shop around for ideas. Checking out trade suppliers like Ellisons to see what MUAs and beauticians are using can be a great way to get inspiration.
Oats are your friend.
I always find my skin gets quite itchy in winter and a great way to combat this is by having an oatmeal bath. It works due to the fact oatmeal is naturally full of vitamins, minerals and lipids, perfect for soothing the skin. All you need to do is pop a cupful of plain oatmeal into your bath and then sit back and relax.
Naturally, care for your lips.
Winter is always so harsh on your lips, but there are a lot of items around the home you can use to help care for them, for instance, a cool tea bag will help heal and hydrate the lips, thanks to the tannin in tea.
If your lips are getting a bit flaky then a mix of brown sugar and honey can make for a great exfoliator, all you need to do is mix it in the palm of your hand, gently apply to your lips and then wash off. After you are finished, use a moisturising lip balm to seal in the goodness of the honey.
Think about your makeup.
If you are suffering from dry skin thanks to the harsh winter a weather, a foundation of cream or liquid will offer better coverage than a powder, which will draw attention to your dry spots.
Exfoliate.
All that dry, flaky and tight skin of winter, means you have a dry skin build up and the best way to get rid of it, is of course exfoliate. However, you need to be careful with the type of exfoliator you use, after all harshly exfoliating damaged skin can cause skin breakage. So you want to look to use a gentle exfoliator more often.
Invest in a humidifier
It is said that putting a humidifier on overnight, while you sleep, not only helps regulate the air in your bedroom but adds moisture back to the skin. You might be thinking but the last thing that I need is more moisture. However, turning on heating removes the good damp from the air and a humidifier is just adding it back in.
So there you have a few of the best beauty hacks for winter, do you have any you swear by over the colder months? I would love to hear them!

Lips can get cracked so easily can’t they, all it takes it someone licking their lips too much for instance.
I am a big fan of sugar scrubs! I not only use it on my lips, but I also use it for my feet. It does a good job removing dead skin and my feet is so much smoother with a silky feel. I will have to try the oatmeal soak too. That sounds really nice.

Most definitely you can always tell when the weather is changing as the way your skin reacts to things changes as well.
I have heard good things about oats and have seen women use it for face masks and other things. This looks like a great list for skin care.
It is amazing what you can use oats for isn’t it 😉
I find even though I have oily skin exfoliating helps it. If I exfoliate and then moisturize during the winter months I am not so oily and shiny!
It really does help doesn’t it – I’ve starting having a love for oil as well, it really seems to add the good oil in which helps stop the bad oil.
We can’t believe that it’s nearly downhill to Christmas too! Seems we’ve had no summer!! Great beauty tips and we always look at new foundation for the colder months too, as our skin changes x
I know it is such a shame, we had that one really hot week and that was about it for this year.
I have a oily skin so I love winters than summer lol. But I never knew oats can heal a dry skin. I should share this with my sister
It is really interesting what things around the home can do, once you know about it.
I haven’t tried an oatmeal bath yet, but sounds good! I’d be tempted to eat it haha
Haha I wouldn’t suggest eating it 😉 it might not taste that nice lol.
I always use moisturizer to my skin to avoid dryness. For my lips I’m using Nivea rose lip balm, but I try to combine honey for exfoliator. Using moisturizer lip balm is such a great helpful hacks for winter to avoid a crack lips. Also oat is such a fantastic for a skin care

It has run by so quickly hasn’t it I feel like I can barely keep up with it.
I really need to invest in a humidifier because my skin gets so dry in the winter. My hands literally start cracking and bleeding!
A humidifier is a great idea and they don’t have to cost too much these days either.
Going to try the oats for my itchy skin
It works well (or at least it does for me) so I hope it does for you as well 🙂

I can’t imagine not having winter haha, mind you I’m not sure I would really miss it either.
Four months until The C word? Nooooooo!
Moving on, yes, skincare for winter is certainly something I have to consider wisely. My skin changes so much in winter, and needs a lot more moisturier. I find the harsh winter weather is evil. I tend to go very pale, and my skin loses any healthy glow I gained in summer.
It is crazy how much it can change isn’t it, I hope you can find the right skincare for your winter skin.
I had no idea about oats! I love long bubble baths in the evening and you can bet I’m going to be trying this one. x
There is nothing like a good bubble bath, I hope the oats help 🙂
With extreme winter conditions moisturizing is a must and i totally like your idea of moisturizing hands and feet before going to bed. Humidifier is really great for winter we always use it in our home and its effective source of moisturizer and reduce dryness.
I have to admit I totally used to think why would you want to add more moisture to the air but it makes sense in winter with all the dryness heating brings.
I have horribly dry and sensitive skin, especially in winter. I am all about moisturizing!
It is horrid how it can get so bad over winter isn’t it, moisturising is a must!

These are all great hacks. Using a humidifier in your house can be great for keeping your skin from drying out.
It is such a good idea to have one around isn’t it and you can get them that mix in essential oils now so your home smells wonderful as well.
I’m definitely going to try oatmeal for my skin this winter….I always make sure I moisturise but I still get dry, cracked itchy skin.
I hope the oat meal really helps keep your skin in a little bit better condition.
I get so dry and itchy in the winter. I love a nice oatmeal bath. Always makes me feel better!
It is a really nice way to help soothe your skin isn’t it – amazing the things that can help that you have laying around.
Before leaving Lush, I was told we were hiring Christmas temps already! I was in such a shock to find out that it’s almost retail Christmas, so I feel your panic about it being only four months away! I agree with everything you said. I used to be such a pain for not exfoliating or even moisturising during the winter. And every year I’d complain and say I’d do more next year, but never did until it got so bad I couldn’t put off doing it anymore. I really enjoyed this post! 🙂
It is crazy, I’m already getting emails in about Christmas gift guides as well!
I’m really going to have to prioritize moisturizing and exfoliating! I should probably consider getting a humidifier too!
There are some lovely ones out there, we got one last month which you can use essential oils in so the place smells amazing.
Wow – Winter is almost here already! I cannot believe it. I didn’t know that about the tea bags. Thanks for the tip
This year has gone part amazingly fast hasn’t it.
Thanks for these ideas! I always forget how great an oatmeal bath can be. I am blissfully in the summer months mode but I know winter is coming and with it the dreaded dry skin. I will have to stay on top of it better!
It is horrid how it so quickly changes isn’t it 🙁 I hope oats help you through a little.
Stop it, I haven’t even been on my summer holiday yet! But I totally agree – moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!
Oh no I am sorry haha I hope you have an amazing summer holiday 😉
I know I need to moisturize more. My skin goes so dry and red in winter! they are all great tips
Owch that sound quite sore 🙁 I hope some of these tips help a little.
I didn’t know you could use oats in that way. Will definitely try that out, thanks!
I really hope it helps, it is such a soothing thing to do for you skin.
I need to keep this in mind. My lips get SO dry during the winter. I might have to pick up a humidifier as well.
If you don’t want to use honey you could use oil as well, but I think honey is much nicer 😉
Thanks for your wonderful article!! I carefully moisturise my skin a lot. Moisturing is really important. And for the lips, my friends always think that licking their lips is the best way to heal it. But it’s totally ưởng, licking it only make it drier, I suggest using coconut oil to keep your lips softer ^^
Oh gosh no you definitely shouldn’t lick them I mean we all do at some point but doing it a lot can make them so sore!
Great tips! Moisturizing and exfoliating are crucial during the Summer and Winter months. I use sugar scrubs on my face and lips. In fact, I’m sharing some of my fave sugar scrubs in a post later this month. Swing by and check it out.
Sugar scrubs are great aren’t they. I’m going to have to keep an eye out for your scrub post thank you.
I had no idea that oats do that! My skin is always so itchy especially after take a shower in the winter time. I am totally going to find stuff with oats to see if it helps with how itchy I get.
I hope it helps you out, it really is so soothing to your skin.
Winter is fast approaching as we reach the 90’s today but it will be here before we know it. I will remember all of these things to do to help my skin over the winter months.
We have been very autumny this week so it feels like it’s starting to change.
