March 6 – Life in a Lockdown #53
With the world starting to open around us, we are all looking forward to seeing people once more I think.
Of course, Boris Johnson announced only yesterday that the roadmap for England will be going ahead as planned at the moment. That means that next Monday non-essential shops can reopen, people can go to a beer garden or eat at a restaurant as long as the seating is outdoors. While hairdressers and beauty salons, libraries and gyms will be allowed to open once more.
There is also talk that everyone in England will have access to testing twice a week, it will be interesting to see what the uptake on that is like.
I guess that’s the main updates for this week, I hope those that take out into the world next week enjoy themselves and of course are careful.
On With The Linky!
Starting off I must say a huge thank you to Bex from Futures for joining me each week as my co-host and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part, it’s simple:
We ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, as hosts of the linkup and you can copy the questions below.
After that; all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and add your link in the inlinkz.
1) How are you feeling/coping?
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
3) What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
4) Do you have any plans for lockdown easing?
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? (Especially if from a small business.)
6) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
7) What would you like the future to know about life during a pandemic?
8) Anything else you would like to mention?

So what did week 53 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
I feel like most of last week passed in a blur. I’m OK at the moment, just taking each day as they come. I would like some more energy though if anyone has any going spare.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days?
I went to the opticians one day and had a doctors call another.
I need a new lens for one eye as it will give me slightly better vision. However, there has been no change in fit, which is a good thing.
The doctors are arranging all sorts of tests again. I feel like I cause them so many problems. Hopefully, it will get to the bottom of a few things though!
3) What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
Jaffa Cat wrote about getting the COVID vaccine as someone with a chronic illness.
I find it interesting to read other peoples experiences with having the vaccine. I was obviously pretty poorly after and couldn’t sleep. However, some people have a much easier ride with it.
4) Do you have any plans for lockdown easing?
We’ve been talking a little about finding somewhere to meet people which allows you to have a coffee outside, but also isn’t too busy.
I have a feeling it might be something we have to wait a few weeks for, especially on the side of it calming down in how busy it will be.
I also want to try and sort out an electric wheelchair at some point. Though I have been putting this off as I do worry about the cost and getting it right.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? (Especially if from a small business.)
Nothing – I’ve been quite good of late with spending, I think.
That is bound to end at some point though whoops!
6) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Disney+ – we’ve been watching a lot of Lost, I like that they have all different things on there now. So much choice!
7) What would you like the future to know about life during a pandemic?
It changes everything. From how you see relationships, to how you view simple things. I guess it is life-changing in so many ways.
8) Anything else you would like to mention?

Such crazy times we are living in! Very happy that things are picking back up now though slowly and we are able to see our families indoors again!
Definitely I really hope this opening up goes well and we can start going back to some sort of normal.
Hate this virus…
It is awful isn’t it. It really feels like there is no end to it as well.
looking forward to retail shopping
I think a lot of people are looking forward to being back in shops.
Been to the barbers, to get my haircut and went to sort myself some new running shoes out too as my current ones are on their last legs. Great to start catching up with people face to face with a pint too.
I really need to have something done with my hair I have to say it is an absolute mess.
The only thing i am looking forward to is having my hair cut. Its not for vanity either. My hair has gone that long, it wraps around me neck and is strangling me at night when i sleep!
Oh no that doesn’t sound nice at all. I hope you get it sorted.
Great post!
Sorry to hear you had vaccine side effects. My husband & I had quite differing reactions. He was fine, a slightly sore arm but that was all. I felt dreadful for about 48 hours, sore, achy all over and suffering from brain fog so I couldn’t even read or watch TV to pass the time. Still, I’m glad to have had the first dose, and looking forward to going to visit our daughter and granddaughter who we’ve not seen for almost a year!
It is crazy how different it has been for everyone, Ash and I both had bad ones, but neither of us had the same side effects.
We have been watching a lot of Disney+ too – we are currently marathoning Scrubs. We have also been watching The Circle, of course!
The Circle is so good – I have to admit not my favourite series though, which is a shame.
Hopefully we’re starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Fingers crossed! We’ve been thankful for Disney+ too, it’s been a lifesaver through lockdown!
It really is, isn’t it? I am so glad for streaming channels. I don’t know what we would have done without them.
Ooh that Covid vaccine with chronic illness post sounds interesting-I had mine about four weeks and zero side effects so far touch wood,
It’s a really interesting post. Glad you had no side effects, Ash and I had awful ones – but got to be better than having COVID right?
Don’t feel like you cause the Doctors problems hun, as they are there as you need their expertise, so keep your chin up xx We are looking forward to the restrictions easing and actually going for a meal out x
Thank you – I think as I have so many things going on it feels like I’m causing chaos at times.
I know what you mean about wanting to find somewhere that won’t be too busy, that’s a worry I’ve been having and have been putting off some bits for an extra week or two x
Yeah, I’m hoping that once the first couple of weeks have gone by things will quiet down a bit as everyone won’t be so like OH MY GOSH OUTSIDE!
Can’t wait for the lockdown to be over it has been stressful, looking forward to some more norms I hope, Will have to check the post on the covid vaccine.
Definitely, hopefully it will help people feel a bit more at connected to others and less alone.
I honestly thought I would be more enthusiastic about the shops opening up and life beginning to get back to some kind of normality but I’m not really. I guess I have just learnt to live with it so it will be strange and take some getting used to.
Definitely, I think everything will feel very strange reopening as we’ve got used to living in a completely different way.
We don’t have any dates for re-opening yet here in Northern Ireland, but I really miss going to charity shops and meals out – can’t wait for these things to open!
I hope things start to reopen for you in time too. The rules are so different across the countries, aren’t they?
Hopefully you can meet up with your friends next week and feel a little bit more normality . I can’t wait to meet up with friends!
Thank you – it would be lovely to get to go and see people for sure!
I hope you are able to meet up with your friends from next week, I need some retail therapy for sure.
Thank you – I think we all need a bit of retail therapy in some way or another lol.
Do hope the coming week is much better for you. I love Lost and used to watch it when it first aired, also super excited about the shops opening up again
Thank you! Lost is great isn’t it – sometimes it is nice to rewatch something you have seen before.
Like you, the one thing I really want to do now that lockdown is easing is to meet friends outdoors for coffee. But so far we have been finding very quiet, secluded places to meet friends which means no coffee but minimal risk of bumping in to others which is nice.
I hope you’re able to get out soon x
It sounds like you have found some lovely places to meet up it can be hard to find quiet places.
For the first time in months I am finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I hope things get better and return to some normality.
Fingers crossed, I do worry there will be another wave of it though but I hope I am wrong.
These diary posts will be part of history
It will be interesting I think to look back on in years to come.
I am really looking forward to a spot of retail therapy again.
I hope you have a wonderful time doing some shopping.
I’m really looking forward to hairdressers reopening, my hair has got to a really awkward length that keeps getting caught behind my back when I sit down.
I normally hate going to the hair dressers and DIY it but I really need to go myself to be honest.
It’s bizarre as normally I don’t tend to enjoy going out to places where I would go on my own but the hairdressers is the only place I enjoy. I’ve stuck with the same hairdresser for 17 years so heaven only knows what I would do if they ever closed down. I love the smell when you walk inside, I immediately relax 😊
Oh that is amazing – I think when you find someone you can trust like that it is great to hold onto them!
