Time to Give your Master Bedroom a Makeover? Follow these Tips
Don’t fall for the myth that because you are normally asleep in your master bedroom that the decor is somehow less important than other spaces. If anything, it needs to be even more on point, because it will be the first and last thing you see every single day.
With that in mind, we’ve put together some handy tips for sprucing your sleeping haven, so let’s take a look.
Be sensible about your bed.

Take a look at your makeover budget, then think about how much you are reasonably willing to spend on your bed. It’s the most vital piece of furniture because it supports your back and can improve your health if you partner it with the right mattress, so this is not the time for novelty shopping or DIY frame attempts.
Look at the double beds available online, choose something timeless and ‘you’, then get to the fun stuff – the bedding.
Keep the scheme light.
A light and bright bedroom will always feel fresh, modern and unfussy, plus it can be the ideal backdrop for adding in accessories later if you fancy a change. The more neutral you keep the walls, the less chance of you getting bored and needing to perform another makeover.
That said, if the idea of very little colour horrifies you, try an accent wall. Removable wallpaper is an excellent choice for this, as you can just swap it out whenever the mood takes you, leaving no damage behind.
Add contrast somewhere new.
Wallpapered and painted ceilings are enjoying a moment right now, so if you can’t stand the thought of a plain white ceiling and matching walls in your bedroom, get creative.
Us? We might be tempted by a dark-navy ceiling with some pretty stars painted on, to give a suitably sleepy and elegantly celestial feel.
Mix and match.
Interior design seems to have a lot of rules, but mixing and matching modern and vintage furniture is one that we can definitely get on board with. It gives you an opportunity to display your own style, while also being non-judgmental about cost-effective additions.
Let’s be honest – sometimes a flat-pack chest of drawers can really look good, especially when offset with vintage handles.
Layers, layers, layers.
A layered bedroom always feels cosier and more put together, so it’s time to adopt a ‘more is more’ philosophy – at least for your textiles. On your bed, choose a medium-tog duvet, but add comforters, throws and blankets.
Extra cushions and pillows look great, too, and come in handy during lazy ‘films in bed’ days. Extend the layered look out into the wider space, by casually laying a blanket on your armchair or dressing-table stool.
The look you’re going for is effortless luxe, so drapes only…no folding!
Take a seat.
Speaking of seating, if you don’t have any in your master bedroom, this makeover is the time to remedy the situation. If you only have space for a small bucket chair, that’s fine, just as an enormous sofa will also work beautifully.
What you’re looking to create is an area that lets you relax but isn’t your bed. By dissecting your room up a little, it will appear larger and more multifunctional.
A master bedroom should be a den of relaxation where you feel naturally drawn whenever you want to get cosy and comfortable, but it should also energise and refresh, so don’t let a lacklustre scheme cause you any sleepless nights.
