4 Awesome Accessories That Help You Declutter A Bedroom
Let’s face it, bedrooms get more cluttered than any other room in the house. Your living room and kitchen may fight hard for the top spot, but the bedrooms always end up the messiest. It’s simply because you have too many things in this room, and not enough space to keep them. Without even realising, you start adding clutter to a bedroom until it overwhelms the entire interior space.

This is an issue for two main reasons
- It makes your room feel smaller, and you can almost suffocate with all the mess lying around.
- It just doesn’t look nice.
I’m going to assume that you have tidied your bedroom many times before, so it’s not technically an issue of cleanliness. Instead, it’s more that you have loads of clutter and don’t know what to do with it. This can be your clothes, books, makeup/other beauty products, etc. As such, the best way to handle the situation is by finding accessories that deal with your clutter. Today, you’ll see a few home accessories that fit nicely into a bedroom and will drastically improve the messiness.
A Laundry Basket.
For me, everyone needs a laundry basket in their bedroom. I’d go as far as to say that every bedroom should have one! Alternatively, you could have one main laundry basket for everyone to use, but this still might lead to clothes being left lying around bedrooms. With a basket in your bedroom, you have a place to store all the dirty washing until you wash it. It sounds so obvious, but you’ll be amazed at what this does to your room’s clutter.
Laundry baskets can be tucked away in a corner and act as a bin for your dirty clothes. As you can see on the French Knot website, you can get loads of stylish laundry baskets for your home. So, it’s the ideal accessory as it adds functionality as well as style. Look around your room and imagine how much neater it will look with a laundry basket. Most of you probably leave your clothes on the floor, ready to be washed, which creates too much clutter. Try this one tip to free up space and make your room neater.
A Desk Organiser.
Now, this can be used for desks, dressing tables, or any other type of desk/table in your bedroom. It’s the perfect accessory to take care of all the clutter that’s strewn over the surface. Looking at my desk, this includes things like vitamin sprays, moisturisers, and other makeup products. Depending on what you use your desk for it might also include books, pens, etc.
A desk organiser refers to many similar products, all of which are designed to organise this space. Essentially, you move the clutter from your desk into this organiser. It allows you to retain all of these items without taking up too much space on the desk/table. They’re still close to you, so you don’t have to go rooting around in drawers for them, only your desk looks far neater. You can also get small shelving-type things for your desk, which is ideal for storing books. However, that leads us onto the next accessory!

Shelving.
Yes, shelving is an excellent home accessory for any room in your house. I love hanging shelves up as they transform the look and feel of your bedroom. Instantly, you’ve got additional storage space without taking up any extra floor space in the bedroom. This is perfect for keeping books and other belongings on your walls. You can play around with the different sized shelves and the various styles depending on the interior design of your room. Regardless, you end up with some storage to declutter your room from loads of things that are littered about.
For me, the best thing about shelving is how convenient it is. You don’t need to be a DIY master to hang up a set of shelves. To show you how easy it is, I’ve linked a video below that walks you through the main steps:
Flat Storage Containers.
Your first thought is that this contradicts itself. How can you have a flat storage container? Surely this means it doesn’t have enough space to store anything in?! Well, it doesn’t mean that the containers are as flat as can be. Instead, it refers to all types of storage containers that are flatter than usual. Effectively, they can slide under furniture and be hidden from view. That’s pretty much the main thing we’re looking for here!
You’ll be surprised at how much storage space you get from these flat containers. They also come in different varieties, some are plastic, others are more like drawers. Either way, the main concept is that you put things in them and slide them under your bed. This will let you deal with loads of the additional clutter that’s lying around your room. If you can’t throw it away, but don’t use it regularly, this is the best place for it to go. You can still reach it if required, but everything is hidden from view. I’ve chosen this type of storage container over storage boxes because you can hide them. Most beds have space underneath to slide these little things under. Ideally, you want your containers to have wheels as it makes life a lot easier. But, if they don’t, it’s not a massive deal.
Also, some of you are probably saying that there’s no space under your bed. If this is the case, you most likely already have storage built into the bed. This can be drawers underneath or a whole compartment where you lift your bed up and store things. In either case, you don’t need this extra storage as you have some already!
You will notice there are only four home accessories on this list – that’s not a lot at all. This goes to show how easily you can declutter a bedroom without investing too heavily. All of these ideas will free up space and make your bedroom a lot neater. In turn, this improves the overall atmosphere and makes your bedroom a nice place to be.
