A Spa Date at Home – How to Turn your Bathroom into your very own Retreat
As a parent, someone that works from home, or works the standard 9-5 – whoever you are and whatever you do, everyone deserves (and definitely needs) a spa retreat from time to time!
But of course, a visit to a spa isn’t exactly a cheap way to spoil yourself! And with treatments and fluffy robes and the occasional glass of something cold it’ll soon add up…! So, why not consider creating your very own spa experience at home for a fraction of the price! Like most spa services, your bathroom offers a private space where you can take a relaxing shower or warm bath to de-stress. All it takes is a few more elements to evoke the spa-like atmosphere. So, let’s get started!
Showerheads
A very small change you can make, for a very small cost is to change your showerhead. Many homeowners assume a soaking tub is a must-have item in a spa-like bathroom. Yet, chances are that you only use it occasionally, not to mention it may make your small bathroom feel crowded. A massage showerhead, on the other hand, won’t take up any extra square footage. Additionally, you’ll definitely use it every day! Companies like better bathrooms will give you some ideas.
Paint
Nature-inspired colours, such as brown, grey and green, can give your bathroom an organic feel along with a calming effect. Nevertheless, if you have a rather small bathroom, opt for a lighter and more neutral colour scheme. Beige, light grey and pale green, for example, can lend a soothing sense, as well as a spacious feel to your small bathroom.
Clear your clutter!
Clutter usually gives us stress. That’s why spas always keep their toiletries hidden and in order. However, storage space is usually a serious issue in small bathrooms…
Well, it’s time to get rid of those old and expired toiletries you won’t ever use! By doing so, you should be able to free up a significant amount of cabinet space.
Still need to borrow some counter space for your go-to toiletries, such as cotton wool balls and cotton buds? To avoid visual clutter in your bathroom, try organizing these items in clear glass jars. Believe it or not, jarred toiletries will look just like a part of your décor!
Don’t forget your taste buds
Don’t assume drinking a glass of wine while bathing will make you sound like an alcoholic! In fact, this idea has been in vogue for a while. Have a look online and you’ll find a wide range of bath trays and wine glass holders!
Soothing scents & smells
Your rejuvenation journey can’t be completed without aromatherapy since scents are famous for boosting one’s health and mood. In addition to lovely smells, the flame of fragrant candles can add a warm ambience to your bathroom, making the space feel romantic. However, for forgetful homeowners, oil diffusers will be a better and safer choice.
What is your top tip for having the spa experience at home?

Useful to know.
I try & have a pamper evening once a week, where I do a hair and face mask and body treatments & put my music on, it’s nice to make you relax & feel pampered especially during these lockdowns with Spas not being open 🙂
This is something I really want to do once we get our own place that we can decorate! Its the ideal relaxation space every house should have!!
Great ideas!
A really good post! I need to declutter and make the bathroom more brighter. Great tips!
Am inspired to create the perfect bathroom bliss environment now <3
Love the idea of making a spa date night right in your own space. Really great tips!!
I love a nice long shower. A new showerhead can make such a big difference on a small budget.
My new flat has a teeny tiny shower and now that it’s getting cooler I really wish I had a tub. It is definitely lovely to have a nice spa-like retreat at home to soak and wash away the stress of the day. x
I totally love and enjoy a good spa at home or any DIY way of pampering. It is more relaxing, convenient, easier on the budget … and I can stay as long as I want. I love all of these tips and look forward to trying this over the weekend.
There really is something wonderful about having a pamper day at home, and like you say it costs so much less!
Some great tips here. My mummy hates having clutter in the bathroom especially my bath toys, so she tries to hide them and light candles to relax. Fluffy bath towels help as well x
It can really stop the area feeling quite so relaxing can’t it.
Those are really great tips to read. Been reading bathroom ideas lately!!
Ohh do you have a bathroom make over on the cards? If so enjoy!
I love to treat myself to a spa night at home every two weeks or so. I usually will add some lovely relaxing playlist, a delicious scented candle and a fun bath bomb to relax.
A bath bomb is always good I have to say. Love the ones from Lush!
I like having a long bath, while enjoying a facial and putting hair mask on my hair for some spa experience at home!
There is something nice about getting to relax at home and I always find a pampering uplifting!
Our bathroom is super tiny so I don’t know that it coul ever feel spa like. I love my bathroom’s color (grays) and I did find a cool shower curtain that matched that has all sorts of spa and relaxation words that I love.
I love the idea of the shower curtain ours is just plain white I really need to change that.
A spa day at home sounds lovely. I always have a candle in my bathroom but never actually light it! I do struggle with baths though as much as I like them for some reason I can never spend longer than 20 minutes in it!
This is great. Now all I need is someone to stay with my kid and a house with a bathtub, lol. I am kidding I just need someone to stay with my kid.
Haha I hope you manage to get yourself a spa date with yourself soon.
I love these ideas, a spa retreat at home is a perfect way to unwind after a busy day 🙂
It really is isn’t it – I hope you get to relax soon.
I love these ideas – a spa room in my home would be perfect! First I think is to declutter and buy some fresh new candles Xx
Good luck! There are some amazing candles out there 😀
Great ideas. I need to de-clutter my bathroom. That would definitely make it more spa like! I love aromatherapy stuff, especially when I am taking a bath.
There is something great about aromatherapy isn’t there, it really can change your mood.
We have lived in our home for about five years, and still not touched the bathroom. It is fine. But fine isn’t a retreat. You’re inspiring me to give it a facelift.
I hope you manage to give your bathroom the facelift you deserve 😉
Some great ideas- always love relaxing in the bath after a hard and stressful day.
There is something nice about taking some time and just relaxing after a long day.
We have such a small bathroom, it is hard to make it into anything relaxing! When we move, I am taking these tips to heart!
Aww good luck with getting the bathroom of your dreams when you move.
I definitely need to declutter my bathroom – it is so function over comfort at the moment! You have definitely inspired me!
C x
I am glad to have inspired you 🙂 good luck on decluttering your bathroom.
This is such a great idea! I always try to take a little me-time over the weekend to do a face mask and relax after a long, busy week. This is so awesome!
It is nice to spend some time just pampering yourself isn’t it.
Love these tips! We all need to remember to treat ourselves sometimes.
Sondra xx
Most definitely I think sometimes it is way to easy to get caught up in the moment.
I do a pretty good job of keeping my bathroom clutter free, but it could use a little updating. I love taking a bath with homemade scented bath salts, that’s the best home spa treatment ever!
It is lovely isn’t it and you can really tailor it to your liking when you make it yourself.
I would LOVE this, but my bathroom is super tiny and not relaxing at all. Next house, I swear…
Aww that’s such a shame 🙁 I hope next time you move you get the bathroom of your dreams.
I have never been to a spa, so an a-home spa day sounds amazing! If only someone would borrow my kids for the day haha
Aww no – perhaps you could try and have a mini one at the end of the day at least.
I should do this when I have an alone time at home. It would be nice to get a spa treatment without leaving your home.
I hope you manage to take advantage of some down time if you get any 🙂
These are some great tips… Just can’t wait to get some relaxing bath this holiday season 😀
It’s nice isn’t it to get to spend some time to yourself and just relax.
Great idea! Sometimes it’s easier to retreat at home than go somewhere. Will do this soon!
Most definitely and we all deserve a pampering from time to time too!
I moved most of my clutter into some drawers in my bathroom and it makes me feel so much more relaxed looking at it x
I have to admit I do similar I try and put everything out of the way.
Super tips, these! We all need to relax and unwind and this is a great way to do it!
Most definitely I think often we forget to take time out for ourselves.
I can’t believe what a difference clearing the clutter makes. We recently staged our home in order to sell it for a move. We took everything off the bathroom counters, put up matching towels (instead of the usual mismatch), and added a simple flower arrangement. It made me want to stay in the house!
It is amazing how much it changes how the room looks, and how much more relaxing it can make it feel as well.
My bathroom is small, and we painted it a blue that reminds us of tropical vacations. Now to get the shower head changed to one that massages and we’re in business!
We have our bathroom blue as well, there’s something about blue that seems to go well in that area of the home.
I am all about having a spa day at home. I think your tips on how to create a comfortable and relaxing spa bathroom at home are spot on. Thanks for the inspiration!
It is really nice to be able to just relax in your own home and pamper yourself a little.
I have not made a spa day at home in way too long! I think I am going to plan one this weekend. My daughter can help me and I will thank you later!
YES! Definitely do – I hope you have the most amazing spa day with your daughter.
We actually just changed the shower head in our bathroom. The new one is much more relaxing and it has different settings.
It is amazing the difference a shower head makes isn’t it.
It is so important to take some time out to pamper yourself. This is a great way to have some spa time at home. It is such a great way to relax and recharge.
It really is, I know we all pamper ourselves in different ways but we all need to look after ourselves.
We just updated our shower head in the master bath. Now I need to do some others things on this list.
Ohh I bet it is nice having a nice new shower head – they can make such a difference.
These ideas are sounding really nice right now. I could do with a relaxing spa night with some mint or pine scents.
Ohh those scents sound perfect – I hope you get to have your spa night.
Sadly, I do not have a bath in my bathroom, just a stand up shower. I believe that a shower head can make a huge difference in how you feel and how clean you are.
I am totally with you on that the showerhead can make a huge difference.
Sometimes I pretend that I am having a spa weekend at home! It involves wine cheese and shaving my legs 😉
Haha now that sounds like a good weekend, any weekend with cheese is GOOD!
Ooh I can’t often afford spa treatments so I love the idea of bringing the spa to me. The idea of having wine in the bath sounds rather fabulous right now x
Most definitely it’s so much cheaper and wouldn’t we all love a pamper every so often.
This post is so nice and what a great idea! It is always great to have a bathroom that feels super cosy so that you can relax and unwind!
Most definitely, there is something nice about having some you time and a bit of a pamper.
What great ideas! At some point I would LOVE to re-do all the bathrooms. Right now they look pretty dull.
I hope you get them done sometime, it is nice to have a nice fresh bathroom.
Great tips here, my main problem is clutter there is so much in my bathroom that just clearing that will make it much more relaxing x
Good luck with decluttering, I hope it helps bring a more relaxed feeling to the room.
My secret to a spa like bathroom retreat is lotsa bubbles. Nothing like immersing in a tub full of fragrant bubbles to make me forget the cares of the day.
Oh I miss bubble baths so much they are the best aren’t they!
Rain shower head is always a nice feature. Place to soak, soft music, good book to read, candles burning, essential oils all works for me.
It is a great feature isn’t it – it really makes such a difference I think having a good amount of water coming from your shower head.
Lots of great ideas here! My top tip is soothing music 🙂 x
Music can really help set the mood can’t it.
Oh I am totally doing this! I can use the spoiling and this is a great way to do it without spending a ton of money.
Most definitely it is nice to pamper yourself sometimes and it is so much cheaper doing it at home.
I recently totally renovated my bathrooms and I love the spa-like experience when I now enter my bathroom. Simple changes and updates can really turn an ordinary bathroom into a spa retreat. I love these tips!
I bet it is nice to have your bathroom all fresh and new, enjoy using it.
A glass of wine wouldn’t make one an alcoholic. It depends on the alcohol level. I think anything less than 10% will just be enough to chill in one’s bathroom.
No for sure it wouldn’t – nothing wrong with relaxing with your preferred drink.
I LOVE this post! I’m a huge fan of having a relaxing place in the home. The showerhead is such a simple, yet awesome idea that I never would have thought of!
It really is such a big thing as well – how the water comes through the shower can make a huge difference.
It is nice to have a place where you can relax at home and just rejuvenate yourself.
Some very relaxing tips. Especially liked your shower head suggestion. We need to remodel our bathroom though to make it someplace you’d actually want to hang out in.
I hope you manage to remodel your bathroom soon into the perfect look for you.
Nice ideas!! Changing the shower head is one I’d never thought of before – I like it. 🙂
And I’m all about relaxing scents and candles.

It really can make a difference, worth trying if you fancy a bit of a change 🙂

Ours is the same I have so many things to try in there.
