  2. I had a squint when little and corrected with surgery. I remember that so vividly. My sight improved so much I didn’t need specs for years a mini miracle! However with computers at work I’m back to wearing them to avoid strain. Our eyes are precious and ‘the windows to the soul’ of course.

  5. Yes to giving your eyes a break from screens – I always feel so more refreshed when I have an evening off. I think sleep is a huge factor in keeping eyes healthy too.

  7. Such a great tip about giving our eyes a break. I’m a blogger and have a career job in I.T. and therefore spend crazy amounts of hours in front of a computer screen. From now on, I’m going to start doing as you suggested and gaze off into the distance at my cute husband! x

    1. It really is such a big thing, especially when you are a blogger who spends most of the time in front of the screen be it working on post or on social media.

  8. Getting enough rest and let your eyes relax and break will help your eyes healthy. Taking care of your eyes is a must, its good to have good vision until you grow old.

  9. As someone who has ptosis, I know first hand just how important it is to look after your eyes. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ended up with an eye infection from the smallest things – not washing my hands after removing nail polish, getting a bit of grit in my eye, and poking myself in the eye with an eyeliner. My eye doctor is always saying I need to be more careful!

  12. All great suggestions! I think this is the year that I’ll finally go see the doctor. I’ve noticed reading has become more challenging. I did pick up some reading glasses at the store, but it’s beyond time.

  13. I used to wear contact lenses that you could sleep in for up to 30 days. However since November I have been wearing glasses constantly and have noticed my eyes are so much better and less dry!

    1. It is amazing how they do make your eyes feel really uncomfortable, I have to admit I had no idea you could get contacts you could wear for 30 days straight.

  16. I need to work on giving my eyes a rest more often I am always on the computer which can’t be good. I’ve been meaning to get them tested as I haven’t been in years.

    1. You should definitely go and get them tested, always worth getting them looked at as they check the health as well as your vision.

  17. It’s so important to give your eyes a break and I really need to remember that. I look a computer screen for such a lot each day and I rarely look away.

    1. It is so hard isn’t it as we are so used to just looking at the screens we don’t think about the damage it maybe doing.

    1. It really is, after all it isn’t all about how well you can see but everything going on behind your eyes as well.

  18. I have injured my left eye so many times that its so susceptible to even the smallest bit of damage now. It all stated with a champagne cord injury and then a splinter. I’m so careful with my eyes now with the fear that something else happens

    1. It is such a simple thing to do but something many do without even thinking is just touch their eyes at anytime.

  20. I remember when I was a child and my parents would always tell me not to watch tv too long because my eyes will get damaged. And now I am with my eyes in the computer all day long. Indeed regular check-ups are required in order to keep our sight healthy.

  21. I’m over a year late. Some people hate the dentist visit (haha, I do too), but for me it’s the eye dr. visits… Something about them always makes me uneasy.

    1. Oh no, I have to admit I don’t like how up close they have to get to you – it’s like get out of my personal space, but I’m getting more used to it now lol.

  22. I tend to forget to give my eyes a break when I am concentrating in my work. As a result, my eyes are tired and dry sometimes. And also, I don’t like to wear sunglasses or even normal glasses, that’s bad sometimes to my eyes especially I love doing outdoor activities. But now, I always remind myself to take a break every a while and building my habit to put on sunglasses whenever needed. All has to start at some point and make it as a habit, I think ~

  23. I have been having a lot of problem with my eyes lately. They’re dry and pain a lot. I blame all the screen time, but can’t really help that. So, I’m going to do all the things you’ve mentioned!!

  26. My mummy is awful about taking eye breaks and resting her eyes. She needs to take more screen breaks and not work when tired.

  27. As electronic displays have become a more prominent part of both work and personal life I’m surprised eye problems aren’t mentioned more often by the media and health care professionals. I didn’t know about the condition caused by rubbing your eyes … will keep that in mind in the future!

    1. I think in the long term there will probably be more, especially as eye strain becomes more common from us looking at screens so often.

    1. Most definitely I think it is so easy to forget about all they do and forget to take the best care of them we can.

    1. It is scary when it starts to happen isn’t it – I kept silent about mine for so long, I knew it wasn’t a normal deterioration which was so silly of me.

    1. It is hard isn’t it when you need it for your job and your hobby and basically we are so technology focused these days.

    1. It really is something we all seem to forget about too much, I hope this helps even just one person look after them more.

    1. I hope they help stop your eyes itching so much, if they don’t stop it might be worth getting them looked at.

  32. I need to do better at this! I am a contact wearer and struggle remembering to take them out every night. My goal is to take better care of my eyes this year. I do always wear sunglasses on the bright side

    1. I can imagine for some it is hard to remember, mine always feel like grit in my eyes so it is such a relief to take them out.

  35. Sunglasses are a MUST for me, really good ones at that. I have the pigment of a 70 year old for some reason- no idea why, it just runs in the family where our eyes lighten like crazy. I’ve always worn sunglasses because I get migraines but now it’s a *need*

    1. They really are for me as well, I have such sensitivity to light, even on dull days I walk around with them on, I probably look odd to others but for me it is a must.

  37. I wear contacts so giving my eyes a break from them is important. I normally take a week off from wearing them, despite have lenses I can wear for 30 days straight.

    1. Oh wow that’s amazing, I can’t wear mine for more than probably 12 – 13 hours and it is bliss when I take them out, sadly I can’t take a week off as I can’t see without them (glasses don’t correct my vision) but I wish I could.

  38. These are great tips! I try to take very good care of my eyes. My best tip is to take out my contact lenses at 6pm each night so my eyes have time to rest.

    1. That’s such a good idea, I wish I could get away with that but once mine are out I just can’t see haha!

  39. Well, this would explain why my eyes have been getting so bad lately. I had lasik surgery years ago and recently noticed my vision is going. I’m guilty of at least 3 of these things… mainly technology. I always have a screen in front of me. Thanks for these tips!

    1. Oh no that’s not good 🙁 I have to admit I’m awful for always having a screen in front of me as well.

  40. These are great tips! I have worn glasses since I was 3.5 years old, so I have never taken it for granted! I think the hardest thing for me is giving them a rest! Breaking away from all technology can be difficult with it so readily available!

    1. I have to admit I’ve worn glasses since I was little, but I took for granted I could put on a pair of glasses and see, which I now can’t do.

    1. It really is something we just don’t think about – and if you have good vision you should of course still have eye checks.

  42. I always try to keep at least one pair of sunglasses in my car at all times! I totally agree with giving our eyes a break! We as bloggers oftentimes get so into what we’re writing on the computer, that we tend to forget to give our eyes a break.

    1. I’m so annoyed I’ve put my sunglasses somewhere and I have no idea where I put them, had to drive today without them – must look them out.

  43. This is always something I worry about as what I study is computer animation which means computers practically 24/7.. Also we have windows in the glass but they’re sort of frosted so you can’t see out of them. I usually do some doodles or just look around the class as I can always feel my eyes straining! Any other tips for me?

    1. Oh gosh yeah it can be hard when your job is to be in front of the screen especially when you need to look at it in detail.

  45. I’m definitely guilty of spending too long looking at screens, and I really need to cut back. I recently started reading my first paperback book in years for this reason – I love to read before bed and I’m not sure reading from a bright screen was doing me any favours.   46. These are great tips. I never walk outside without sunglasses. I have really sensitive eyes, and the glare kills me. I’ve also always made sure that my girls have worn sunglasses since they were babies!

  49. Frequent breaks are key, especially if you do a lot of computer work or work that requires a major amount of eye strain. Great tips.

  50. I make sure I have regular eye exams, and I always wear my blue light glasses. They really keep my eyes protected after a long day on the computer.

    1. Regular eye exams is a must isn’t it, I’ve not heard about light blue glasses I’ll have to look into that thank you.
