When is the Best Time of the Year to Visit Rome?

Whether you are thinking about organizing the perfect journey in Rome and are looking for the best time of the year to enjoy all its beauties, here we have some ideas for you.

Indeed, even though it is always the right time to go for Vatican and Colosseum Tours organized by Maya Tours, especially when taking an early morning visit to the Vatican Museum and ending up the day with a night tour of the city centre, there are also many seasonal activities that can be a part of your trip in the eternal city. Let’s find out!

Looking forward to spring in Rome

A great moment of the year, also to have a super interesting story to share with your family and friends when being back home, is around the end of March, in particular, the 20th: in fact, you can visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria Degli Angeli e Dei Martiri on that day and see the Spring equinox on the amazing meridian, also known as the Linea Clementina from the name of Pope Clemente XI who ordered the work, drawn in the marble floor on 1702 and working ever since then.

Spring is definitely a wonderful period to spend in Rome, as the weather is warm enough not only to wear light clothes and walk around the city streets for hours and hours without being too hot, but also to go to the beautiful panoramic viewpoints, like Pincio and Gianicolo terraces, and see the sunset on the Roman roofs and domes.

Summertime Roman holidays

Summer is also one of the best time of the year to visit Rome for many tourists that fill the squares and streets of this enchanting city. If you want to take a break from the crowd and the hot temperatures, chose one of the many parks of the city, like the park of Villa Torlonia or the one of Villa Borghese, for some rest on the grass, under the fresh shadow of the trees. In the second one, there is also the Globe Theatre, a faithful reproduction of the one in London, which has a program of shows every evening from the middle of June to the first days of October. You’d better not be losing it!

To mostly enjoy the summertime in Rome, just two steps away from the must-see ancient Roman temple (now church) Pantheon, there is the traditional gelateria Fiocco di neve, where you can taste the best zabaglione ice-cream in town. Of course, there are also many other places to have some artisanal gelato by the centre of Rome, just to mention Gelateria dei Gracchi and Otaleg!.

Most fashionable for Fall/Winter in Rome

The arrival of the first cold days is not a good reason to not visit Rome. In fact, the city has so much to offer also when the weather turns a little bit grey (of course, it takes at least November for that, Rome is quite a sunny place!). With more than 200 churches and many museums going from contemporary art back to the history of the ancient Roman Empire with 3D reproductions of its magnificence, there are always new expositions, attractions and events to satisfy your curiosity and keep you up-to-date on art and history, as well as, of course, safe and sound from cold and rain.

I love Rome, we’ve been there in February and there were 20 degrees Celsius outside with clear blue sky! We’ve enjoyed the good food and coffee only on the terrasses

We visited Rome in the spring last year and had an amazing time. Rome is touristic all year round but in the spring we had excellent weather, sunny but not blisteringly hot! Crowds were also very manageable and we never felt overrun. Would return in a heartbeat.
