5 tips to the perfect movie night in this autumn
With the nights drawing in and the weather getting colder, there is no better time to treat yourself to a movie night, no matter if you’re catching a movie on your own or with friends and family, they are always a good night and can really help boost your mood when it comes to re-watching old favourites or catching up with recent releases.
Myself and Ash do love a good movie night in (I find cinema seats way to uncomfortable and you can’t just pause when you need a loo break) and here are five of my top tips for a movie night at home.
Make sure you have the right electronic equipment.
Now this might seem obvious but what happens if you invite a friend round, tell them to grab a movie and they come armed with a Blu-ray and you only have a DVD player – night ruined! Personally, I’m thinking of upgrading our TV sometime soon, my eyesight is getting steadily worse and a bigger one might be just what I need, some of the Smart TVs from Panasonic look just up my street (I actually had to sit on the floor watching Unfriended so I could read the screen).
Snacks
No movie night is complete without snacks and drinks – so why not mix up some of your favourite drinks and ready the popcorn (or chocolate) so you can snack all the way through?
Think carefully about the film.
Now while I am a huge fan of horror films, having a night dedicated to watching the Saw films might not be up everyone’s street, so do take into consideration the tastes of all those who are coming and don’t go scaring the heck out of someone who isn’t into horror films. Perhaps look at recent releases this week, and try to find a film which is a pretty good all-rounder with some action, comedy or adventure.
Make yourself comfortable.
Getting comfortable is different for everyone, for me it means snuggling down on the sofa with a selection of cushions and a nice blanket to keep myself warm, comfy and cosy as the movie plays. Whatever helps you get comfortable make sure you’re sitting ready, before you press play.
Think about the lighting.
Turning down the lights and using a softer alternative such as lamps, fairy lights or candles can make a wonderful atmosphere for movie time and might just stop people fiddling with other items if they can’t see them quite well.
So that’s my five tips, but, what would you suggest doing to make a perfect movie evening?
