4 Things To Know Before Starting A Fitness Journey
You just moved to a new city, and you’re excited to start this next chapter of your life. After the last of your furniture is unloaded by Black Tie Moving Nashville, you noticed there’s a gym right across the street from your apartment. Exercising hasn’t ever been your thing, but you want to make it a part of your new life. That’s why we’re offering some advice on 4 things you should know before starting your fitness journey.
Progress Takes Time
If you take away anything from this list, make it this: progress takes time. So often, people get frustrated and let down when they don’t see instant progress in the gym. They feel as if they’re working so hard, and it seems to all be for nothing. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Consistency is key when it comes to exercising, so don’t give up on yourself and allow yourself time to progress. You’ll see the results soon enough, and it will be more than worth it.

Every Day Is Different
There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to working out. Every time you make it to the gym, you can’t assume that you’ll have the same endurance, strength, or mental energy you had the day before. Exercising takes a toll on the body and mind, and there are other factors that go into how your performance will be each day. Sleep quality, diet, drinking alcohol, and mental health all play a role when it comes to your workout, and that’s why you can’t expect each day to be the same. Give yourself grace on the days you don’t perform as well as you’d like.
Small Wins are as Important as Big Wins
Personal records and dropping a dress size are both wonderful feelings when it comes to your fitness journey. However, it’s crucial that you not only celebrate your big wins but your small wins, too. You won’t be maxing out on a bench press every time you work out, but you can find small wins with almost every workout. When you notice and appreciate the small gains you make in the gym, you’re much more likely to remain consistent and have a positive attitude toward exercise as you’ll have something to be grateful for each time you step inside the gym. Honestly, even making it to the gym could be considered a small win!
Rest Days Are Important
Rest days are an absolute must when it comes to your fitness journey. It’s not uncommon for people to think that rest days will hinder or slow down their progress. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Rest days are essential for muscle recovery and repair. You could even consider rest days as part of your fitness journey. If you choose to not allow your body the time it takes to recover, you run the risk of overtraining syndrome, injury, and getting burnt out on working out.
