Why more People are Turning to Nail Art to Express Themselves after Lockdown

With facemasks being mandatory in supermarkets and, at the very least, advisable in other public places, exactly how are we all supposed to express ourselves? An unlikely answer comes from the world of nail art.

Flaunting nails might not come naturally to many of us, but now might well be the time to start. Let’s examine the factors pushing this trend along, starting with the one we’ve already mentioned.

Masks.

Many of us are looking into nail art because of a lack of options. How else are we supposed to express ourselves, after all? When you’re wearing a mask, there’s very little point in applying makeup. Lipstick is virtually pointless in a world where no-one sees your lips. A few of us might have resorted to wearing plastic gloves everywhere we go, but this is a step too far for most. After all, you’re going to have to replace those gloves fairly regularly. Thus, the fingers represent a logical place for a little bit of glamour.

Covid-19 Anxiety.

Just because the lockdown has lifted doesn’t mean that the danger of the virus itself has gone anywhere. And if a professional nail salon isn’t taking their hygiene obligations seriously, there’s a reasonable chance that the establishment will form a hotbed of disease. Now, it’s important to get the danger in perspective. It’s unlikely that you’ll catch a coronavirus while getting your nails done. But that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible, so you might want to be safe and stay away until things have gotten back to normal.

Self-expression.

Nail art provides a vast range of possibilities. There are only so many colours you can dye your hair, you can paint your nails just about any colour on the chart – and you can paint in every pattern and shape you can think of. During lockdown, quite a few of us spent our time scrolling through Instagram in search of inspiration; nail art provides a means of getting those ideas out into the real world. So, if you have creative tendencies, it might be the perfect time to get hold of the necessary tools and start to express yourself with a nail-art kit.

Celebrity Inspiration.

While you were scrolling through Instagram, you might well have caught sight of a popular celebrity, or influencer flaunting their nails. They’re invariably being paid quite a bit of money to put this message across. If Kylie Jenner decides that nail art is a worthwhile way to spend her time, then a sizeable portion of her 190 million followers might well reach the same conclusion. If this weren’t the case, then influencers wouldn’t be called influencers.
