White Gold vs Platinum Jewellery
When it comes to choosing jewellery, people sometimes find it hard to pick the right type for them. There are just so many different materials to choose from, particularly white gold or platinum jewellery.
You will often see people debating over which is the best choice between the two but there are many factors that you need to consider before picking the right piece of jewellery for your needs.
So which one should you pick? Each has its own advantages. I’ve shared with you the advantages of each below to help you make the right decision.
White Gold Jewellery.
There are many advantages to choosing white gold jewellery. It doesn’t rust, nor does it corrode. It can be worked into more intricate designs easier than other types of jewellery, due to how malleable it is.
Another advantage is that it is less expensive than platinum jewellery but looks perfect if you want to imitate the look of platinum. It is good quality however white gold itself does not exist naturally and is instead made from another type of gold mixed with alloys.
White gold engagement rings are becoming increasingly popular as they are more affordable than platinum options but still maintain a good quality and beautiful look like you expect from platinum jewellery.
The only potential disadvantage of white gold jewellery is that it sometimes needs recoating unlike platinum jewellery. This is something to consider if this is something you do not want to do.
Platinum Jewellery.
Platinum jewellery is made from platinum which is much heavier and harder than gold and is in fact rarer and also naturally occurring. As it is heavier, harder and can be used in a purer form than gold, this means it sells at a higher price point than gold jewellery.
Although it is more expensive than the more affordable white gold, it tends to be more cost effective because of this and it has a better investment value in the long term than less expensive types of jewellery.
Many people choose platinum engagement rings for this very reason. Not only does it look good but it retains its value and tends to wear better than other types of jewellery.
The only disadvantage when it comes to platinum jewellery over white gold jewellery is the price point. However if you do not have a budget constraint, this wouldn’t necessarily be a disadvantage to you.
There are many plus points to choosing white gold over platinum jewellery just like there are many advantages to choosing platinum over white gold. The fact remains that it all depends on what you are looking for from your jewellery. If you are limited on budget then white gold might be the best choice for you however if your budget is a little looser, platinum might be the best choice.

Even though platinum is more purer and long lasting, I do prefer white gold for its luminous sheen. It’s just a shame it doesn’t last.

I love silver and white gold jewellery. Not a big fan of gold, even though my wedding and engagement rings are gold.
I have to admit I have to be in the mood for gold a well – I love more silver coloured items.
Working in a jewelers for 7.5 years I used to have this conversation with people all the time. We had people coming in to get their white gold rings replated every 12-18 months and I knew straight away I didn’t want that. Thankfully my fiance listened and I’ve been lucky enough to get a platinum ring so I know it will last well, but it’s all about what you can afford x

I do not own any platinum jewellery my wedding ring has a band of white gold in in I am a lover of white gold and silver but my rings are all traditional gold

I prefer platinum jewelry. I think it is more elegant, longer lasting and forever pretty! I have a treasured piece, a platinum tiffany ring with a decent sized diamond. It belonged to my aunt and she gave it to me as a college graduation gift. My everyday jewelry are a pair of platinum stud earrings. They are so nice!
