Top Tips for a Midweek Pick-Me-Up
The hump day blues can often feel like a very real thing, especially at this time of year. When the start of spring feels so close but yet so far away, it can take some midweek R&R to successfully make it to the weekend. With that in mind, here are my top tips for giving yourself the perfect midweek pick-me-up at home.
Take time to pamper yourself
Something as simple as running a nice, long bubble bath or indulging in a midweek face mask can make all the difference to our mood. Often we commit ourselves to too many activities during the week – especially when we have the kids to think of too – but it’s important to take a step back and spend a couple of hours looking after number one. You could even treat yourself to a flower delivery.
If you’re struggling to relax at home, consider pampering yourself in the form of some gentle exercise, like yoga or pilates. There are countless tutorials online that promise to bring some zen to your life and encourage you to take care of both your mind and your body.
Embrace the comfort food
We’re always told that the key to a balanced diet is keeping to a strict, healthy regime during the week and indulging in the odd treat come the weekend. It’s great advice, but it’s natural to stray from routine every once in a while, especially on days when you’re feeling a little lacklustre. Fill the freezer with your favourite ice cream flavours and McCain frozen products and you’ll always have something on hand should you need a quick fix in the comfort food department.
Lose yourself in a good book

Taking more time to read was at the top of many of our New Year’s resolutions lists at the start of the year, and it’s something that I firmly believe we should be committing to year-round. A good book can solve any number of problems, enabling you to transport your mind to another world entirely.
Book clubs are a great way not only to meet like-minded people but to give you some incentive to spend time reading, even if it feels like there are countless other things you should be doing instead. Check out My Book Club to find one near you.
Make time for a little midweek cleaning
Most people dedicate Sunday for the main bulk of the housework, yet spending just an hour or so organising your home in the middle of the week can be hugely refreshing. Even a quick run-around with the hoover can be beneficial in blowing away the cobwebs (quite literally) and clearing your mind ahead of a busy few days.
Indulge in a little retail therapy
Shopping is another activity that’s usually limited to the weekends, but there’s nothing to say you can’t indulge during the week, too. Allowing yourself a treat, no matter how small, can do wonders to your self-esteem and really help to perk up even the dullest, most stressful weeks.

I totally agree there is something wonderful about a spending spree!
A little bit of comfort food and an early night with a good book can do wonders for your mental health.
I am with you on that sometimes you just have lounge about.
I’m caught in a midweek slump and I really can’t get out of it. I think these are going to help. Taking a break makes you feel refreshed and ready for another few days of work!
It is hard when you hit that slump isn’t it – I never quite know how to completely get over it.

I can so retaliate to this…a pamper session and comfort food always help x
I love this, I struggle with hump day so much, I should just take a few minutes out to relax
I’m a firm believer in a midweek tidy! I try to do one small thing every day so it doesn’t dominate my weekend. Nothing worse than cleaning on your days off, get it done on a night and enjoy your down time 🙂
