Tips to Creating a Kitchen that’s Easy to Live With
The kitchen is often referred to as the ‘heart of the home’. It’s where many of us eat the majority of our meals along with spending time socialising with friends and family. Furthermore, over the last 18 months, as we have been limited in going out to eat, there has been an increase in cooking at home as more of us are spending more time in the kitchen experimenting with food.
This may well have made people realise that their kitchen needs some TLC and maybe an update here or there. With this in mind, below are some tips to help you create a kitchen that’s easy to live with on a daily basis, will function well and will last you for years to come.

Storage is key
One of the great and frustrating things when it comes to the kitchen is there are always new things you can buy. You may be reading a recipe one day, decide you want to make it and then realise you’re missing a piece of cooking equipment needed. So, you buy the equipment you need, make the dish, and realise you now have something else you need to store in your kitchen. For this reason, having adequate storage in your kitchen can make everything much easier. While they may not be your first choice, don’t rule out adding wall cabinets in certain areas to give you extra storage.
Use space intelligently
While storage is key, you don’t want your kitchen to be comprised entirely of just cabinets and work surfaces. Think about the amount of space you have available in your kitchen and what you can and can’t fit in. For example, kitchen islands are a really popular addition to many kitchens. However, they work best in large open kitchens.
Don’t try and fit too much into your kitchen and end up creating a cramped and difficult to use space. A kitchen that you can move around in easily and isn’t a struggle to use will be one you enjoy living with.
Think practically
As many of you will know, cleaning a kitchen can be a sizeable job that takes up quite a lot of time. For this reason, it’s important to think practically when it comes to the materials you choose. Big areas like work surfaces and the kitchen floor should be durable materials that are easy to clean and live with. Choosing something like vinyl flooring for your kitchen is an excellent idea as it’s easy to live with and comes in a wide variety of styles to fit in with your kitchen design.
Keep ventilation in mind
While it may not be something you initially think of, ventilation is a crucial element in creating an easy to live with kitchen. As we all know, kitchens can get really hot, and this is only made worse at certain times of the year, such as the warm summer months. Making sure you have some form of ventilation in your kitchen can really help control the temperature. This can be something like an extractor fan, cooker hood, or even just a well-placed window to let some of the hot air escape. You don’t want to be limited in what you can make at certain times of the year, just because your kitchen gets really warm when you’re using it, and with the correct ventilation, this won’t be an issue.
Hopefully, the tips highlighted above can help you create a kitchen you love that is easy to live with and can help you enjoy spending time in your kitchen. After all, cooking should be fun, and having a great environment to cook in can help this immensely!
