Sleep around the world
Sleep something some we all have to do and something some of us love (yes that would be me) and something some people think is just time wasted, but have you ever wondered how your sleep pattern stacks up against the average in the UK and if sleep is similar, no matter where in the world you come from?
Well if the answer is yes, then never fear as Mattress Next Day have taken the time to put together some interesting statistics from around the world.
Well I have to say I definitely sleep more than average (who would have guesses that? OK everyone). However I did found it interesting when looking at the UK against other countries, that we seem to come somewhere in the middle when it comes to amount of time spent sleeping both on work days and at the weekend.
The part that participially caught my eye as I found rather interesting was that only 7% of people are getting enough sleep in the UK, but 82% believe their routine offers enough time for sleeping, so why don’t you stop for a minute and just ponder how much do you sleep and are you really getting enough?
Does anything about this infographic surprise you?

I most definitely need at least 8 hrs sleep, I cant function at all without it x
Sleep patterns are really interesting! Several US Presidents and other high functioning, high profile characters have/had crazy sleep patterns, with naps throughout the day. One of them even held meetings from his bed! I wish I could do that… humans are biologically set to nap, 9-5 doesn’t work for us! And definitely not for me! 😀 zzz
It’s so interesting to see the comparison with other countries. I think I don’t get enough sleep, or maybe I don’t get enough GOOD sleep. It definitely takes it’s toll on me and how productive I am each day.
Loads of interesting and fun facts to know, the sleeping in the office in Japan to show how hard you have been working made me smile!
I have a nap while in Greece during the summer, I find it impossible to function in 40 degrees but then I end up staying late at night. But most people do the same thing here, their lives are regulated by the weather.xx
I guess I am somewhat surprised by the info. I do not get enough sleep and I often want naps.
Such an interesting infographic. sleep is one of those things that seems to change as we age I find
I love sleep, naps are like a little treat, and I am a basket case if I don’t get 8 hours. God knows what will happen if I ever have kids! ?
I do like a good nap. It definitely helps me to be more productive.
I can not nap. If I do I can’t sleep at night. I have to stay asleep until bedtime even if it kills me to do so.
I have different sleeping patterns lol – sometimes I don’t sleep enough sometimes I sleep too much lol.. I never thought about it though lol.
I’m a terrible sleeper hence why I’m commenting at 6?am
That is very interesting. I feel like I need more sleep than I really get.
Really informative post! I definitely don’t get enough sleep and sometimes find myself dozing off on the sofa with Max!
This is a very informatie post. I need to sleep some more.
What fascinating information. I can vouch for the Japanese napping at work, I used to work for a Japanese company and the Manager would often have a snooze at his desk or midst meeting.
I have always been a light sleeper and can’t lie in for love nor money – not that the kids let me lol
Thanks for a really interesting post. I don’t feel like I get enough sleep at the moment. Ideally I would have 9-10 hours each day but realistically that’s not going to happen. I do sneak in a nap whenever possible though!
That’s so interesting how it varies so much! I never even thought about it before
I can sleep and sleep, more than the average. I am one of the 43% who have a hot drink before bed and then end up getting up through the night desperate for the loo 🙂
Well this blog title cloud have been so very different lol… Anyway I sleep less than average which doesn’t surprise me x
Wow, that is a really high percentage on the nap taking UK statistics, have always forced myself to stay awake through that afternoon slump buy maybe I should go with it to get better focus and concentration.
I love my sleep and make sure I get atleast 8 hours a night x
I love my sleep! I kinda wish that we had siesta in the UK – I would love a bit of downtime during the day but I’m always too busy!
I am a terrible sleeper. I wish that I wasnt and have tried everything, to no avail. The thought of an afternoon nap really appeals and I wish I could
Great post; very interesting to read! I definitely sleep more than the norm UK person. It is not a desire to, but more of my brain needing it. I wish it didn’t in reality. Lucky Japanese!
I loved this post – I’ve never seen anything quite like it on a blog before but really enjoyed reading it! I definitely get more sleep than average, who knew how little people sleep in Tokyo! I loved facts like 21% of americans sleep with a pet in their bed.
Thanks for sharing! XX
As an American, I will say that we are just over worked to the bone, and naps are frowned upon. When there is a nap snuck in, it’s because we rushed home from work to get ready for another event and needed some sort of sleep to keep up with the day. I wish we had more emphasis on sleep, instead of depending on pill prescriptions to give us what we need. Great article!
