September 14th – Life After a Lockdown #76
Being away in Devon last week I took the week off posting Life After a Lockdown, it was nice to get away and just see somewhere different after so long at home.
We had actually booked to go prior to the pandemic so it was long-awaited as well after having to change dates.
I will write a post on the beautiful barn we stayed in as it was peaceful and mobility friendly.
Honestly, I’ve stayed away from the news of late, but I guess the big news is a 1.25% rise in national insurance contributions. This alongside the decrease in universal credit of £20 per week is going to hit the lowest-paid hard. It is worrying how many will be pushed into poverty by these moves.
On With The Linky!
Starting off I must say a huge thank you to Bex from Futures for joining me each week as my co-host and of course Jenni at Lyrical Host (affiliate link) for kickstarting the idea!
If you would like to take part, it’s simple:
We ask that you give both Bex and I a link back in your post, as hosts of the linkup and you can copy the questions below.
After that; all you need to do is pop back to mine or Bex’s post and add your link in the inlinkz.
1. How are you feeling/coping?
2. What have you been up to over the past 7 days? Are you living life as normal, being cautious or still being very careful?
3. What’s a helpful tip you would like the future to know about living in / or after a pandemic?
4. What tips do you have for others when out and about?
5. What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
6. What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
7. What has made you smile this week?
8. Anything else you would like to mention?

So what did week 76 hold:
1) How are you feeling/coping?
One running theme I’ve noticed a lot of late is how fatigued I am. I think after I was so ill that I ended up in hospital it has had a long term knock-on effect on my other issues.
Of course, I did have an exceptionally busy week last week – so it is to be expected this week is going to be hard. However, it was worth it and my wheelchair was incredible.
2) What have you been up to over the past 7 days? Are you living life as normal, being cautious or still being very careful?
We, of course, went to Devon last week, it was a huge adventure and we were very lucky with the weather.
The wheelchair of course meant I got to see more than I ever would have without it. We tried to stick to outdoor spaces to explore such as the Donkey Sanctuary, and while I couldn’t get into every area there was so much I was able to see just driving about in my chair. It was really nice to come across such a location that was so mobility friendly, to be honest.
We also went down to Lyme Regis and Charmouth, two of my favourite places to explore along the Jurrasic Coast.
3) What’s a helpful tip you would like the future to know about living in / or after a pandemic?
Try not to stop making memories, you can choose to be careful, but don’t let everything stop. It has been such a boost getting out a bit. Choosing open spaces with plenty of fresh air, rather than enclosed locations can be helpful once lockdowns have lifted.
4) What tips do you have for others when out and about?
Sanitiser and spare masks are a must! We normally use reusable masks but tucked a pair of disposable in the wheelchair bag and it meant we always knew we had some on us.
5) What is your favourite post of the past 7 days (it could be yours or someone else’s)?
I really love my review / competition of this botanical cast which can be used as a diffuser. It is from a small business, looks lovely and smells fantastic.
There is something wonderful about these casts and the bigger pieces of art you can get from The Foxglove Tree. Do check out my post if you haven’t seen it yet.
6) What have you been grateful for over the past 7 days?
Honestly my wheelchair, it really has allowed me to see more. I’m definitely not the best driver yet but it is already allowing me to see a bit more of the world which even if it is the local cafe is a big thing.
7) What has made you smile this week?
Getting away to Devon, seeing the donkeys and getting to see the sea. It was amazing to just see something different when I woke up each day as well.
8) Anything else you would like to mention?

Happy to hear that you are able to get away afer lockdown. Life isn’t reached normalcy yet still it is coming around.
It sounds like you had a lovely time exploring lots of Devon and the Donkey Sanctuary sounds so lovely! So pleased the wheelchair helped you so much and you got to see and do so much! x
It was so nice – it definitely made such a huge difference and even areas we had been before we got to explore more of as we weren’t so limited.
It has definitely been different since this all started. Things are getting more normal around my area, so that’s always good. I just hope it starts to get even better soon.
That is good I am glad you feel like things are starting to get better.
The lockdown has really played havoc with a lot of things, and everyone else is trying to cope with it. Hopefully, things are improving and should be back to normal soon.
Definitely, I hope in time things will feel like they did before and we won’t all worry so much.
I feel happy for you because you were able to go out and travel. I’m sure it did a lot of good to your mental well-being.
Thank you so much – it definitely did help my mental well-being I was starting to struggle with everything feeling the same everyday for so long.
I am so glad you managed to get to Devon – it sounds like you really needed it! Make sure to get plenty of rest though now you are back.
Thank you – I definitely did – it was nice to get to explore, but I now I need to sleep for England.
Sounds like last week was super busy. Devon must have been nice with the good weather. The donkey sanctuary sounds great. They are such cute creatures. I take my reuable mask and sanitiser everywhere.
It was lovely I was so surprised by the weather, luckily it wasn’t too hot and the sea breeze helped too!
I think you should do everything possible to keep your spirits up, however small. It could be sitting outside to enjoy ten minutes of sunshine with a cup of coffee, treating yourself to some flowers or your favourite bar of chocolate, or doing something nice and unexpected for a neighbour.
Definitely getting outside can make a huge difference to how you feel and how well you can cope I think.
I am so glad you had a trip and you had some fun and good time! I can’t wait to read more about it!
Thank you – I popped up a quick post on Insta but will do a blog post.
I keep saying I want to go to the Donkey Sanctuary, hopefully one day. I get the fatigue as C is struggling at the moment but have got her lavender capsules and a lavender pillow spray to see if that will help her.
It is well worth going – it is such a lovely place to explore and really peaceful. Oh no I hope they help her.
Yup, I couldn’t agree more. We can still live our lives and enjoy important occasion, we just need to be careful and not forget that the virus are still around
Definitely we need to try and make a balance that works for us all.
Glad to know you are doing well. Yeah it’s great to see something different each day.
Thank you – it is I think it gives us just that boost we can need.
I’m being cautious but I’m not letting fear control me. So far this approach is working for me.
That is such a good idea, I know at points it has taken over me.
I’m so happy to hear that you were able to get away and take a break.
Thank you it really made a world of difference to my mental health.
Yes I agree, life shouldn’t completely stop. We still go out but we also make sure to have masks and sanitizer.
Definitely, I think we have to learn to live in a bit of a different world for now – hopefully one day it will be more normal again.
It is good to see that things are going well for you. My life is filled with lots of repairs.
Thank you – oh no I hope they are enjoyable at least, perhaps?
