Redesign your home with Dulux Amazing Space
Hands up I am no interior designer, I always thought that was because I liked random things, but I have learnt this week that when you know just how to work with items, random doesn’t matter and can actually look really stunning.
You see Dulux have started a new online consultation service, called Amazing Space, which teams you up with your own personal interior designer and helps you come up with the perfect looking room for you and I have to admit I was amazed at the results.
Each consultation takes part over the internet and lasts around half an hour, don’t worry you don’t have to webcam share, you can choose just to talk – which considering I did my consultations in bed as I wasn’t feeling well was a good thing.
To be honest with you the hard work comes prior to the consultation taking part and I have to say the more time you take to do this part, the more detailed and perfect for the room, your design will be.
First up you need to take photos of the room, from every angle. Make sure you include each side of the room, tag items you wish to keep and those you definitely want to get rid of and focus on features such as windows and doors.
Secondly you need to measure the room as accurately as possible – if you have any alcoves make sure you include them, measure windows and doors and any features, as your designer needs to know what can fit in where.
Once you are armed with those details you are ready to set up your appointment, a step by step guide will walk you through the stages of this on the Amazing Space website. You will answer questions such as who will use the room, colours you like, how much budget you have in place and what your vision for the room is. Along with being shown a number of photos you can like and dislike and give feedback on. The more time you take on answering these questions as honestly as possible, the more you will get back from the consultation so don’t rush it, set aside some quiet time and think each question through with a clear head.
After that it’s just waiting for your appointment time, it is worth making sure you are around 5/10 minutes before it is due to start, in case there are any technical issues at either end. Fantastically you can use your computer, phone or tablet to take part in the call so get yourself comfy with a cuppa and enjoy when the time comes.
I personally had three different consultations, one for the bedroom, the living room and lastly the kitchen. I did all three in one day and I would strongly suggest not to do more than one room in a day, there is a lot of information to take in and it can get confusing if you are having multiple ideas given to you.
During your consultation you will be shown a number of different ideas and learn how your designer envisages them going together. If you don’t like anything you are welcome to say and after the call ends they will look for something else to take its place. However, they have often already included a number of different options and I found I was always drawn to at least one of them.
The consultation also includes a floor layout (thus getting your sizes right) and within 24 hours you will receive a package that includes links of where to buy all the items as well as a digital mock-up of what your room will look like after the makeover. I personally found it amazing to see the room come to life in front of me and it helped me really see what I could do.
Each Amazing Space consultation costs £75 (one room per consultation) and I have to say while I wasn’t sure about the idea before I took part in reviewing them, I think it is worth every penny to really get given ideas that work. After all, if the end look isn’t quite right, you can always take those ideas and build on them after the consultation has ended.
I personally came away with so many ideas from my three talks and I cannot wait to try and put some of it into place and liven the place up a bit.

I recently redid my son’s room from toddler to tween and never considered a consultation, though it sounds great. I did however use Dulux paint!

That sounds such a great service and I’m sure would help people to be more confident about being bolder when they decorate. Perhaps it’s a way to banish magnolia as our favourite decorating colour? 🙂

£75 does sound like a lot of money but if it really helps it is worth it. We’re moving soon, I might use this as we have a lot of rooms to decorate

My whole house could do with this! It sounds like a brilliant idea, the only thing that would put me off is the price really but it sounds like it is well worth it for the different ideas and advice you get!
It is definitely worth if, especially if your looking to spend out a lot on the room, if your just doing little tweaks then perhaps not. x
