The “Owch” of the Party Season
It has been a long time since I wore heels, one of the downsides (or perhaps plus sides) of not having the mobility I once had. However, one thing I have never forgotten is the relief of slipping off a pair of oh so amazing looking, but horribly uncomfortable shoes at the end of the night. As let’s admit it now, we have ALL been there.
Perhaps the only thing worse than a pair of uncomfortable shoes is when a pair of comfortable shoes, become uncomfortable. I remember once I was heading off to a gig and had on a pair of low heeled suede boots, they were so comfortable, until it started to rain and the suede shrank as tightly as it could around my poor toes. I remember walking back through the NEC without my shoes on that night and being so thankful I had a lift home, rather than having to get the train as I had on the way.
Of course this time of year is party season and with it comes, new shoes, painful feet and dancing all night long and to show just how a night out goes for most of us who dare to wear heels, the lovely people over at Daniel Footwear have put together this graphic, showing the stages of your feelings for your shoes over the course of the evening.
Now is there anyone who can’t relate to that? I think it must have happened to us all, at least once, over the years.
Do you have any shoe mishap stories to share, or have you managed to pull off the almost impossible and dance till dawn in your heels?

I love the way heels look but I hate how much they hurt me when I walk or try to do anything. I can relate to all of these except I’d probably walk to the cab with my shoes in my hand haha x
I feel this so much! I love the look of high heels, but the pain at the end of the night is not something I look for.
I think my days of wearing heels are pretty much over now. I can manage wedges and my ankle boots have a block heel but teetering around in platforms or (heaven forbid) stilettos ? Is definitely a no-no.
Yes, I think ever woman can relate to the pictures. I have had shoes that have hurt my feet so bad, that I swear my feet were numb when I finally got home to take them off. I try not to do that to myself now.
I am always looking for ways to make my party shoes feel more comfortable. I often find myself going to events in worn-out flats because my comfort levels are much more important than my footwear. I wish it wasn’t the case though!
I love high heels but they dont like me -dont think ive ever worn yhem for a whole night
I usually put my flats on
It’s amazing what women put up with to wear fabulous shoes. This post is so true and so funny. This totally made me laugh. I will share this with a friend.
To be fair, I’m having the ‘owch’ moment about 3 minutes after arriving at the party – I’m useless with heels! I’m slowly getting better, trying to wear them to occasions where I can sit down lots and don’t have to walk long distances, haha!
I have to admit the plus side to not being able to wear them is I have an amazing excuse 😉 lol
I always take my flats with me when I go out, just in case! I think my most unfortunate shoe mishap has to be when my heal broke on the stairs when I was out xx
Oh no I bet that was a scary moment with having been on the stairs as well.
Ha ha I have been known to walk home with no shoes on after a night in heels, I also have some fab flat slippers that I take out with me
I think many of us have haha – the things we put our poor feet through 🙁
I love wearing comfy shoes. But when I go out dancing I do wear heels, but I make sure I take a pair of roll up pumps that fit in my bag, so when my feet do start to really hurt I can just slip these on
Those roll up shoes are great aren’t they – I used to hair a pair not sure what I did with them though.
I bought these low boots that I thought would look really good with the leggings I had. And within two days it was a parents that they were the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.
It is strange isn’t it how things that looks like they should be comfortable just aren’t.
I can totally relate to everyone of theses. Yep been there got that t-shirt.
Haha I think it is one of those things we all have to go through as a passage in life.
In my younger years, I used to live in heels. I used to be able to work a 10 hour day in them and not feel a thing. But now a few hours in them for a party and that’s about all I get out of them!
It is amazing how some people can do that at times, the closest I ever got was platform heels at school I think.
Walking to catch a taxi or uber is usually when all hell breaks for me! I give up and take off those bad boys haha
OMG, yes! The walk to the tube or the taxi is HELL. And I always think I’ll know better next time and pack a pair of flats, but I never do! I’m actually heading out tonight and this just reminded me to take my comfiest flats with me for the journey home so thank you!

i love the party season. i learned years ago to make sure i wear cute yet comfy shoes. when your feet hurt that can upset the entire night.
I’ve discovered this this year 🙁 My always trustworthy boots suddenly really hurt me this year when they’ve always been fine before!
That is so strange, it is odd when these things happen – I have to admit these days I live in trainers most of the time, but even then.
I used to wear heels all the time, these days I only wear heels if not walking and in one place and then they come off half way through the night so I can dance. I am for comfort these days x
Comfort is definitely my thing as well – trainers are my BFF lol x
I went downtown Nashville for my husbands christmas party. We had to walk blocks with me in high heels. I took them off and walked barefoot until we got to the venue. Heels hurt. LOL
Haha it is funny isn’t walking barefoot isn’t pain free but oh my it can beat the pain of heels!
I have been here plenty of times. This was me last Thursday at an event however I NEVER take off my shoes and go barefoot. The ground is so gross. I will roll up a pair of flip flops and put them in my purse or little slippers. I keep it classy all the way.
I need to remember to take pairs with me more often it is such a good idea, I used to have a pair of flats that folded into themselves they were great! x
The worst thing that ever happened to me was wearing a pair of super painful shoes because they were cute. What was supposed to be a short “stop in” turned into a night of being on my feet in those torture devices!
Oh no I bet that was awful! It is such a shame when they do that. x
Sarah, this is so funny because it is so true! I recently made a trip to pick up an item for my mother-in-law at a store which sells orthopedic shoes. I will admit to having an entire conversation with the store clerk about how nice it would be to wear those comfy shoes. As we grow older, comfort seems to be so much more important than looks on our feet.
I have to admit I once tried on a pair of crocs now I hate how they look but oh my goodness they were so comfortable I brought a pair haha!
This is me, all over but sometimes I keep some flats handy cos girrrl anyone knows dancing for 6 hours consistently isn’t all that in heels!! Last time I got a really bad sprain cos I didn’t see a dip in the road and my ankle rolled but off those came for the flats which injured the ankle more lol
Owch that is just the worst, it can be so so hard to do anything in heel lol.
I’m really excited for the party season coming up. I would love to sport high heels on this Christmas and new year.
