Life in a Lockdown #1
Helloooo, so I said I wouldn’t say much about the world’s situation but the truth is I’m struggling. So when my lovely host Jenni from Lyrical Host* (affiliate link) said about doing a Life in a Lockdown series just for me to remember and look back on.
After all, that is the foundation of this blog, hen I struggle I talk about.
I decided to take it a step further and join up with Bex from Futures and make it into a link-up, a link-up where we can share thoughts, feelings and ideas on how to get through the coming weeks.
We have put together 8 questions and please do feel free to copy them to your own blog, answer them and then come back and link up!

1) How are you feeling/coping?
Up and down. Some days are worse than others.
I am snapping very easily, so I guess I am walking a thin line on most days. Just waiting for something to help me crack.
I’ve stopped reading or watching the news and use The Brick Castle on Facebook to get my daily update.
2) What are you doing to keep yourself occupied?
Playing Animal Crossing (affiliate link) – if you want my friend code – let me know! My island is a mess but I’m having fun with it.
I’ve also been watching a lot of YouTube, mostly urban exploration (some of my favourites are Exploring with Fighters, The Proper People and Exploring with Josh. Alongside things like Dope or Nope, The King of Random, Alonzo Lerone and of course Dad (whom everyone should watch)!
Oh also Taskmaster are setting daily tasks (Monday – Friday) and it is fun to see what people come up with.
3) How are you dealing with everything at the moment – are you self-isolated, going out for essentials etc? Has this changed?
We are self-isolating, we aren’t classed as extremely vulnerable but we are both vulnerable so we are staying at home and having things bought to us as much as possible.
4) What advice do you have for others?
Talk to people, it helps you know you aren’t alone.
Also, ignore all those people saying “if you don’t come out of this with a new skill”. This isn’t some sort of holiday – this is a crazy event, that none of us could have ever prepared for or predicted. The most important thing is caring for yourself.
5) What have you bought this week that others might like? Especially if from a small business.
I thought I would show you things as they come in. So this week is this beautiful crochet rainbow from Nikki’s Crochet Treasures, which now hangs in the window alongside a picture done by some of the village children.

6) How has your routine been this week? (Question by Don’t Cramp My Style)
Rubbish.
Honestly just getting out of a bed has been a bit of a victory for me.
7) Have you planned anything for once lockdown is over this week? (Question by Don’t Cramp My Style)
We have said to a number of family members that once we are able we will go and see them. It has given me something to look forward to.
8) Anything else.
You can do this! We are all feeling the same thing YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Definitely I think things have changed a lot – but I do wonder if we are ready to come out of it or if it will start a downwards spiral again.
I’m having mostly good days but suddenly from out of the blue I have a day when I just want to cry and need my family and normality.
I’m decorating to keep busy and I’m trying different things like meditation, dancing, baking and online scrabble.
It sounds like you have some things going on to help it’s weird how it can play with our emotions so much.
I’m in a disorganised routine is the only way I can put it. I will be using these questions though among my friends just to get us opening up. Life in a breakdown to Life in lockdown is very apt
It was a friend who suggested the name to me, she deserves all the praise.
I have autism, and although I am still working the same hours, I’m finding all the changes so hard. One thing I’ve stopped doing though, is watching the news, it is so negative. We only hear how many people have died, I think it’s time to hear about all the people that have beat it and come out the other side. It’s terrifying enough and I think we all need some positivity and hope.
I’ve stopped watching the news as well – I read The Brick Castle’s daily update on Facebook and that’s it – she puts a positive spin on it so it works for me. When I was watching the daily conference I was struggling more in some ways.
The first week or so I was attempting to carry on as normal, however, I have realised that none of this is ‘normal’ so I have changed the way I’m doing things at home and finding myself coping much better.
Yeah it is hard isn’t it – the situation is so far from normal – but we have to find a way to work with it.
keeping busy helps me cope, as I do get rather down about this at times, so i have been gardening , baking and doing jigsaws
It sounds like you have found some things that are working really well for you which is awesome!
we are living in such strange times at the moment – I hope you’ve had a better weekend and easter weekend. Yes it’s so important to be kind to yourself and try to do things that lift your spirits.
Thank you for the linky – I’ve joined in. I’m taking even more photos of flowers than usual at the moment. Take care
love bec
Thank you <3 it's so hard isn't it? I wish I had the right words on how to talk about it all. Nothing like beautiful flower photos! Thank you so much for joining in.
some days i cope ok others not so good, i think we all need to be a bit easier on ourselves at this time x
Definitely, it is such a strange time – we aren’t used to it and coping with it is hard!
Great link It’s so hard at the moment I really miss having my grandson I’ve had him so much since he was born while his mum and dad work . Going from that to not having him is heartbreak I just can’t wait till this is all over.
Oh bless that must be such a hard change for you – hopefully it will all go back to normal soon.
It is really rubbish at the moment and the things we would normally do in stressful or difficult situations we aren’t able to do as we have to stay home. I was doing alright until today, I found it tough today but all we can do it take it one step at a time.
Definitely – I think it’s hitting us all at different points, for a while it can seem fun and different then reality sets in I think.
Thanks for the blog. I feel it is like Groundhog day, can’t remember what day of the week it is as everything on our busy wall planner has been cancelled.
I’m the same I feel like I’m going round and round and never quite know what to do.
It changes from day to day. Today I helped my friend set up a zoom 10th birthday party for my daughter’s BFF. It was cool, but also sad, and a little frustrating.
Aww what a lovely thing to do, I can imagine it was very bittersweet.
As much as we wanted to be productive during this lockdown there is this sadness and fear lingers at the side. I hope and pray this will end soon so we can all go back to out normal.
Definitely, it isn’t something we are mentally used to dealing with – I just want to go out, but I’m scared of what might happen if I do.
I will say I am thankful I am living with my sister. I had to move to help her as she was sick. I hate the area I live, people are not my cup of tea. None the less, if I lived in my other condo, I would be by myself as unless I live with someone, I am not seeing them for 3 months.
Oh bless definitely, I can’t imagine living alone right now I think I would find that very hard.
I love how honest you are within this post and the fact that it is ok not to be ok. Love the rainbow too very cute crochet, Take care and stay safe xx
It’s adorable isn’t it – I can’t craft myself so nice to show off some things for others.
Another great blog post which I enjoyed reading. Whilst on lockdown it is important that way find something to keep us preoccupied. This could be anything we enjoy doing such gardening, spring cleaning, baking, decorating. Or we could even take up a new hobby.
Definitely I think we all need to do what is right for us.
This week for me has definitely been rough but I am trying to be positive and push through. Mental health during intense situations is so important to get a grasp on.
Definitely – I think it is affecting a lot of people in a bad way at the moment.
Great idea for a linky. The kids keep be busy which does help, but my anxiety is really bad at the moment.
I really hope your anxiety calms and things get slightly better for you.
These are hard times! I hope they end soon! Meanwhile I have a lot of things to do!
I am glad you are able to keep busy!
I am on constant edge and yet feeling very grateful for the ability to distance myself easily from others. I am not doing bad with the need to stay away from others, but more with the fact that my son is not home with us.. But still working and staying with friends due to husbands health issues.
It’s hard isn’t it – my body is fight or flight I think, but of course I can’t do anything.
Fab post idea and so pleased to hear it is helping you, anything that helps us get through this tricky situation is great!
I am really struggling too, I like to be organised and know whats going on so the uncertainty and unknown of the whole situation isn’t helping. We are on week 3 of self isolating and it so hard, not only on us adults but even more so on the kids who cant really grasp or understand why everything has changed so much!
It’s hard as well as we don’t know when it will end I think, will it be 12 weeks, is that going to be enough?! Who knows.
The game that is keeping us going is Pokemon GO and the kids have managed to make our house a pokestop – not idea how, but its keeping them amused
How have they managed that haha! That’s pretty cool, though could be a bit of a nightmare once people are out and about again.
I’ve been really enjoying it (minus the virus). I never realised how stressed out I was before I was furloughed
Aww, bless you I am glad you have found some goodness in this madness.
I’m glad you have found a way of how to deal with what’s going on. I’m more anxious now than I ever have been, but hubby has helped me so much, by reassurance, relaxing techniques such as meditating and walking around the garden.
I am so glad you have someone by your side who is helping you through all of this.
Thank you ? take care of yourself, stay safe
I love that rainbow. I hope you find a way to manage this situation.
It is so lovely isn’t it – I’m trying to support some small businesses when I can.
I am struggling too, but fortunately I go shopping twice a week for the elderly in my area
That is so lovely of you – it is amazing all the things people are doing to help.
My mood keeps changing but I think it helps to keep some sort of routine and try find new things to do, sharing ideas with other people and getting tasks done in the home that you’ve been putting off x
Definitely I think we need need to find routine in the madness, but it is hard.
I am managing with the lockdown it’s hard with the children home as they are bored , but worse with the partner lol
Haha oh dear! I can’t imagine how kids are finding this time.
Both me and my wife are working together to keep everything well in our home. I know that this is such a challenging time for all of us. I hope we all have a healthy and safe well being!
It sounds like you have things under control in your world.
I’ve also taken a break from reading or watching the news. I’m looking forward to going to my parents lake house when all this is over.
I have to admit I seem to be worse if I turn into the news, that seems to set me off on edge.
These are great questions. I don’t leave the house much normally, so the staying home part is not that different. However, I do worry about my family members who don’t live with me, and I miss seeing them as we normally try to drive down to see our daughter and granddaughter each month. We haven’t seen them since mid February, as our planned visit in March got cancelled, and it now looks as if we won’t be able to see them till May.
I’m the same I don’t leave the house much, but it’s the not being able to or just have someone over which is hard I find.
Thanks for inviting me to join you in this linky. It has been a tough few weeks but I think we are all adapting well.
It has been hard hasn’t it – I do wonder how we will look back on it in years to come.
A lot of people are going through a range of different emotions and my folks are working from home and trying to homeschool at the same time which is proving challenging. My mummy is high risk so hasn’t been out in public for nearly 3 weeks!! Starting to go a bit crazy! I hope things get a bit easier for you soon x
Oh bless – yeah I think we are on week 3 or 4 now I have lost all track of time to be honest.
Both my husband and son are considered essential workers, so I have to keep busy to not think of all the dangers of being constantly exposed to the public. I think the life in a lockdown series is great because we can share our feelings and how we’re coping.
Oh gosh, I bet that is hard to have to deal with 🙁
This is such a great idea for a link up, I’m so glad you created it! It’s so important to stay connected and stay busy! We have been hunkered down for a while and continue to do so until the coast is clear. We’re only going out for necessities and even that we are trying to do sparingly! You are right though, we are all in this together.
I am so glad people are liking it – looking forward to reading peoples posts!
I have to agree with your getting up in the morning, we have got a bit like that here as well. We are just taking each day as it comes x
It’s hard isn’t it – I keep getting confused about what day we are on.
During this trying times our mental health is so important. It’s so important to celebrate the small wins.
It really is we need to keep on thinking of the good bits.
I am dealing with all of this as best as I can. Really the only thing that has changed is my son is home 24/7 as opposed to being at DayCare. He’s a pretty good kid so I can’t complain but there are MOMENTS for sure!
Aww yeah, that must be a bit of a change, especially if you’re trying to work around him as well.
What a pretty rainbow! It has been though, I won’t lie. I’m here with kids and a husband who is an essential worker, so some days are easier than others. I make sure to take some me time, and that means I usually read!
I can’t imagine what it is like for those with kids, trying to get them to understand and stay home must be hard.
Very important to take care of ourselves mentally. I always try and go for a walk or a jog every day as part of my exercise, great to see you trying to stay occupied.
It is great you are managing to get our and about still.
Aww Sarah <3 I totally agree with this skills thingy, it's, of course, an opportunity to learn something new, but not a life competition! that hand-knitted rainbow is stunning! Love it! I have been struggling with routine, probably more than normal. I have pinned your post to the Pinterest, beautiful image! I get mine written up tonight!
Definitely I think if you can great, if you can’t that’s OK too – no pressure and all of that!
It’s important to take care of our mental health especially during times like this. It’s quite nerve-wracking but I’m glad that you have found things that keep you busy.
It is so hard isn’t it – I don’t think any of us know what to expect next.
These are great questions – at this time of utter change and so much concern and fear about health and finances – I have found I can have small bursts of focus and need to let go a lot and chill and rest as everything that was the way before this crisis took hold as changed and it is like finding a new way in a new world too! Sending you loads of love xxx
It can help to get your mind off things from time to time, can’t it? It will definitely be interesting to look back on in years to come.
