WD My Passport Ultra: Review

How often do you back up your computer?

For me, bar my blog information, the answer is probably never.

Well, that was until WD (Western Digital), got in touch and asked if I would like to try out their My Passport Ultra.

This sleek little device is all you need to make sure your important computer information is all backed up and ready to be used at any point.

So you can happily know that whatever happens to your computer; all your photos, documents and memories are safe and sound.

WD offers a number of different storage solutions to keep your computer backed up. With the My Passport Ultra being their midrange option.

My Passport Ultra includes the WD SmartWare software; which allows you to do things such as schedule daily, weekly or monthly backups to the device itself or to the cloud.

As well as choose which files you would like uploaded and of course importantly retrieve all the files you have previously backed up, should the need arise.

The WD My Passport Ultra comes in a plastic-covered case and in a number of different colours, including; white, black, blue and red.

If you would rather a metal case you can look to buy the metal addition, which comes in at a slightly higher price point.

However, unless you envisage the device taking a lot of knocks and bangs or you just like the look more and are willing to pay for it, then I see no reason the plastic casing wouldn’t be enough.

My Passport Ultra is powered by a USB device and is compatible with both 2.0 and the faster USB 3.0.

When it comes to storage capacity it can be bought in 500 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB. Meaning there is hopefully a size to suit everyone.

Personally I think the My Passport Ultra is a great addition to my home. I feel a lot better knowing that all my photos are now safely backed up should the worst ever happen.

One of the great things about My Passport Ultra as well is you can even add password protection. Allowing your precious files to only be accessed by yourself and anyone else you entrust with it.
