Hurry Spring Along with Quick and Simple Spring Cleaning Activities
Are you done with the cold, grey winter weather? Do you wish spring would hurry right along? Guess
what? Doing a little spring cleaning of one’s house and taking stock of its condition can help the time
pass quickly.
Spring cleaning has deep cultural roots across the globe and likely harkens back to a time when winter
fireplace use left a layer of soot throughout one’s home. Springtime was when one opened the windows
and shooed all the dust and soot out.
Better ventilation and HVAC systems means that we do not have this same problem today. But cleaning
during spring feels right. After a week or two of dedicated spring cleaning, you might be surprised to find
that warmer days are upon you.
Here are some quick and simple spring cleaning activities that will get you and your house ready for
warmer weather.
Do a check-up on your appliances.
Winter weather can take its toll on one’s HVAC systems and other appliances. Fix It Right Plumbing, a Melbourne plumber says, “Seventy per cent of all houses we attend have their hot water system turned up too high, not only does this cost you more to run but it puts extra stress on the tank which shortens its life.”
Consumer Reports notes that appliances can last longer depending on how well you treat them.
Springtime is the perfect opportunity to give your appliances a once a year fine-tuning. Particularly if you can’t remember the last time you cleaned the dryer, washer, or took a look at your hot water system.
Pay attention to your kitchen.
The kitchen is often considered the heart of a home. It is where the meals are prepared and those you love like to gather. You likely attend to surface cleaning tasks daily. But can you recall the last time you cleaned out the filters in your dishwasher? Or what about the last time you cleaned out your coffee machine?
Another appliance that is often neglected is the fridge. When was the last time you wiped down the shelves, drawers, and got rid of expired dressings and food?
Additionally, going through your pantry can reveal ways you might be sabotaging your goals for the year ahead. If your new year’s resolutions involved eating less processed foods or cutting back on meat, then there is no reason for you to keep them in the pantry.
Pull out your ladder and wipe down the tops of cupboards, your kitchen fan, and windows, and anywhere else you don’t get to daily. The heart of your home will work best when unclogged with dirt and grime.
Clean your windows, inside and out.
Your home’s windows provide a glimpse of the world outside. If your view has been foggy of late, do not only blame the bad weather. It could be that a layer of grime needs to be washed away. Or that your curtains have not been washed in over a year.
Curtain fabric is a prime dust catcher. But curtains are often overlooked when loading the laundry machine. The payoff for washing your curtains, however, is huge. Your window treatments will look better, and your whole house will smell fresh and inviting after they’ve undergone a wash.
The window frames from the outside also need a good spritzing with a hose. And the glass panes should be wiped down with a no-lint cloth. Consider hiring a professional for the outside of your second-floor windows. Staying safe is well worth the price of getting professionals to perform this task.
Washing rugs, carpets, and other floor coverings.
You may be vacuuming your carpets and rugs twice weekly. Or even daily. But vacuuming does not count as giving it a deep cleaning session.
Experts suggest that rugs and carpets be washed professionally once a year to keep them in prime condition. As well as to extend the carpet’s life.
If your carpet extends throughout your house, they propose you use a steam cleaner. Steam cleaners can penetrate into the fibres of a carpet, lifting out the mould and the dirt and germs that get tracked into the house. And which cannot be removed through vacuuming.
As you busy yourself with cleaning those hard to reach places of your house, you will be a couple days closer to springtime. And what better way to enjoy warmer weather than with a house that is ready to be shown off to its fullest and finest?
