How To Make The Most Out Of A Small Bedroom
Unfortunately, not all rooms are created equal and while a huge master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and grand ensuite might be the bedroom of choice sadly it is not always (or often) the case. That said, if you have a small bedroom then fear not, there are plenty of hacks, tips and tricks for making the most out of a small bedroom and here are just a few.

Keep it neutral – with an added splash of colour
The best advice for making small spaces feel bigger is to keep the colour palette as neutral as possible when decorating. That said it if you really want to inject a bit of colour and flair into your bedroom choose the colour and how you use it wisely. A bright colourful headboard for example can be a great way to spice up a room without bold colours taking over. Colourful wall art or bedding is another great way to liven up a neutral wall palette.
Light it up
Get as much natural light into the small space as possible. Avoid heavy or dark blinds and curtains that can shut the light out. Use bright bulbs and mirrors opposite natural sources of light. This will reflect the incoming light around the room making it feel bigger and brighter than it actually is. When it comes to keeping things bright this applies to the flooring also. Opt for a light flooring finish, whether you can strip everything back and paint the floorboards white or accessorise with a huge cream rug. Keeping the flooring bright will help keep the space looking bright, open and importantly, bigger than it is.
Furnish wisely
Avoid oversized wardrobes and cumbersome dressers. Consider how much wardrobe space you really need. Can you get most of your clothing into a sleek chest of drawers that contains at least 4 draws? The great thing about sets of draws is that you can hide away many items in them, under them or even strategically on top of them. Just don’t be tempted to overfill and clutter available surfaces as too much clutter can have the opposite effect. Another great tip is to choose furniture which has clever storage solutions such as Ottoman beds and bedside tables that provide extra draw space for tucking bits away.
Use the walls
If you are tight on floor space use your walls wisely. Add shelving units for storage, hang a TV (if you have one) on the wall or even attach cabinets or units to the walls. Just remember if you are opting for this keep the cabinets neutral and don’t overfill shelves.
Keep it simple
When it comes to your bedroom keep it basic. Include the furniture you need, a bed and basic storage. Don’t overcomplicate it and fill gaps with dressing tables, statement chairs or oversized lamps where you don’t need to. Keep things basic and simple and don’t be afraid of negative space. If there is a gap in the furniture keep it that way. The presence of empty space will make it look and feel bigger.
